Actually the guy in the video visited Japan and stayed at my family in law's hotel and was a massive pain in the .... He was insanely condescending, telling everyone to come to his shop to get hats and giving his card right and left to our customers. Some of them complained (this is a very exclusive hotel with a good reputation nation wide), so i had to let him know that there had been some complains and to please refrain from using the establishment to promote his business. He looked straight at me and asked me if i had any idea who he was and for how long his family had been in business. Because he was a customer and this is Japan i just apologized and excused myself. But my mother in law the owner of our hotel is not like me. She went to the gentleman and asked him to stop promoting his business in her establishment. He thought she was a maid and tied to dismiss her after telling her that he was the seventh generation of one of the most exclusive store in England, blah bah blah. She looked at him and said sir with all due respect i googled your store and it was open in 1876, by then this hotel was already 1100 years old, since our hotel was founded in the early 7th century and it currently 1200 years old. So sir i would remind you that when this hotel was founded not only your store didn't exist but chances are your family didn't exist, mine has run this establishment since its humble beginnings. I heard you teolling customes that you accomodated kings and head of states and so have we for over 1000 years and i would remind you that by then the current British Monarchy did not exist. And i would remind you as well that you are in the country of the oldest Monarchy still in existence on the planet and that we have accommodated 47 emperors and countless princes. So we would appreciate you to refrain telling our customers and staff if they have any ideas who they are talking to because chances are they don't and even if they did, they would not be impressed. We have closed your account and you do not owe us one yen, and have checked you into another hotel for the next 3 days at our expense, and from then on we would appreciated if you ended any patronizing patronage of our establishment. He still walked out saying that they should cultivate people like him, when on that day alone 4 of our customers were actual aristocrats from Japan, Sweden, the Middle East and Bhutan. Oh yes and he had demanded to have two Geisha booked for him the day before that and when we had decided to reluctantly agree (although Geisha never take new customers without recommendations from established customers) he added, after i meet them both i will decide the one i want to keep for the night. Needless to say after that his fate was sealed in our establishment.
Hats off to them for staying in business for so long.

I mean in this case you have quite a few menswear youtube channels that cover stuff like this, like Tom Chamberlin and Kirby Allison.

Thank you for the love, we appreciate you! 🫶
On one hand it makes me sad that the videos you guys produce don't have the same reach they once did, but on the other hand I'm very happy that you still dedicate yourselves to telling interesting and inspiring stories we wouldn't have heard otherwise. I know I've mentioned this on previous videos, but we love you guys and we're absolutely elated you've returned. 🖤🤘🏽
A tip of the hat to this fantastic story!! So excited and happy GBS is back !!!!!! So greatful

Right?!
I really want for hats to make a full comeback into modern day fashion, well, everyday fashion to be precise. Hats are just a lovely accessory that helps keep the sun out of your face and it can add so much to a plain outfit. Right now I wear caps and I have a wide brim felt hat that doesn't quite fit me, I'd love to own a fitted hat for my tiny head.
That was great! What a fun store. The mad hatter thing was awesome 😆
I don't envy the writer who had to pick the video name... so many amazing fact drops! "we fitted the queen", "we invented the bowler", "we use victorian tech even today", etc.! 🎩👍

Great video and great shop.
Interesting sidenote, Charley Chaplin wore Lock and Co. hats, his great grandkids are musicians called Lockenville 😄
Such a good story!
Hat's off to them for keeping the Hat's on
Always loved this shop. Love my linen flat cap from them
Well, that was quite a bit of fun!
I was fitted for my Raiders of the Lost Ark fedora at Northwest Hat in Eugene, OR. His head shaping device was 3d printed and my fedora fits perfectly.
"Cap" is one of those words used by kids these days that makes me feel old.

Don't let it. It'll wax and wane, like "radical" and "on fleek". If it sticks around, it'll make its way into your vocabulary by osmosis, don't worry.
Man, if I ever visit London, this is the first place I'm going to. Always wanted a nice hat, it just feels cool
That’s awesome!
I used to see many people wear bowlers field hunting in the late 70’s. They wore it with a special string attached to their jacket in case it got knocked off. I just wore my helmet.
Very cool episode
They made odd job’s hats!!?!! That is so cool!!!
Now I want to get my own hat from them
Amazing video
Very interesting
Cool stuff, as someone who's recently gotten into wearing Fedora, this is right up my alley :p
If I ever get asked to Buckingham Palace, I'm going here for my hat!
I would kill to get a hat here, super cool place.
Id love to visit these guys if i ever visit the UK, ive got such a big head I can't really buy hats off the shelf anywhere and it would be cool to get properly fitted
Nice

Ms. Golding has a unique American/British accent…
@sok94
10 күн бұрын
Yes, she does.I think that's because she's a non-native English speaker. I think that had a huge influence on her accent although she's spent most of her life in English speaking country.

@@sok94 I never would have guessed she’s not a native English speaker. I would have thought she was an American who moved to Briton.

I can clear this up, I am a native English speaker and I grew up in Hong Kong. I went to an international school there and people who go to international schools often have crazy amalgamated accents. I sound Scottish to some people 🤷🏻♀️

@@AwonGolding Hello,Awon. Im sorry for my misjudgment. I heard that you are the grand daughter of belated Rishang, honourable Sir.He was a friend of my grandpa. So I've perceived you as an Indian. Besides, your name sounds like a native Tangkhul name. Hence, I made the wrong judgment. Sorry and nice to speak to you. By the way I love the hats. They're classic. ❤
@AwonGolding

@@sok94no problem. I am indeed Tangkhul and that is my grandpa but I grew up in HK and would regularly visit India to see family. Sadly my language skills are limited and my Hindi and Tangkhul barely stretch to basic pleasantries. Anyway, thanks for watching the video! Hope you enjoyed ❤
Now can they make me a burning team captain… but references aside, fantastic video
I love the female hat maker with the continental accent.
These people are the modern journalists and documentary makers.
Long time no see..
WE ARE SO BACK!!
Wish there was a place like this in my neck of the woods in the US...I like vintage stuff and getting a nice hat...particularly an ACTUAL fedora and not a trilby (which everyone seems to call a fedora) means I have to look online and hope shipping doesn't mess it up since the only hat stores around me are LIDS....baseball caps for days but anything like a bowler, top hat, fedora or other similar classic hats are a lot harder to come by, baseball caps and cowboy hats are all easy to come by down south where I live. The others...not so much unless you go online so a custom fit like this is pretty much impossible...which is annoying as in the old west bowler hats were actually rather popular among cowboys up until the Stetson Boss of the Plains hat was made.
I want a hat now On the list. Get fitted. I'll either never wear it, or wear all the time
Here's to hoping you'll have the same reach you had before!
"Sir, where can I find your unusual hats? I'll trade for 500 keys" -A certain type of gamer
1:30 well done sir on the man spreading! A true professional. There are only a few groups of men that can pull off this kinda of man spreading. He does it with authority..

your editor messed up the color grade key select when the narrator was speaking in front of the shop. Look at the nose.
his wide spread sit at the camera eye is, something.
I was wondering if they only did men's hats or not and then you showed the female half...eh. I like the more traditional men's side then the out there female side. Even if she is inspired by vintage...I guess I'd have to see the hats in person. I'm not really a hat person, I feel like I don't have the face for one...plus I have a huge head lol.
while churchill was putting the entire nation on rations, he used to go and buy himself new hats at the most expensive and exclusive hat shop in the world. What great leaders you brits have !
Are they also part of an underground agency which keeps tabs on what's happening around the globe ? 🤔
