    I think this is the closest we will get. Redbull just made the intakes like that to make the sidepod entirely shaped for aerodynamic purposes. Mercedes did it to remove the sidepod entirely. Very different concepts and goals.

    @@alecmillea4539 No, they did it purely for airflow. The sidepods inlet is hidden away under the overbite.

    @@F1ll1nTh3Blanks You’re right that there is speculation that there is another part of the radiator inlets under the top sidepod lip. However there has been no confirmation of that yet. I also don’t know what you mean by them doing it purely for “airflow”. If you mean aerodynamic effiecency of the flow around the sidepods you are just agreeing with my previous comment. If you mean better airflow into the radiator inlets then you are just wrong. It is a less efficient way of cooling as a result of the fact that the intake is injesting the boundary layer running down the side of the car. This is proven by the fact that they need more total inlet area than they did with the inlets on top of the sidepods. It’s only rational that the sidepods shape change is for improved airflow around the sidepods as the cooling solution is objectively worse.

    They're way too small for that. If you go look at the W13, let alone the W14, they are much much bigger. It's impossible for that to be the only radiator cooling inlet.

    Was watching the "spy video" of RB20 on filming day and remembered the interesting mention of excessive side outwash from the RB19. Its seems as though RB20 has lesser side outwash perhaps its probably in anticipation of a clamp down of outwash/dirty air. But as you mention all are hearsay until pre-season testing.

    Because of their front wing? I think not. McLaren will be fastest after Red Bull. At least going off last season's momentum and their confidence. I think Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston will be somewhere between 3-5th fastest. Really in the end, it depends on who's done the best job with the underbody but I don't expect anyone to have suddenly found legs on Red Bull tbh.

    I just think Adrian Newey (and the team he has formed) are the best, they had so much time towards the end of last season, they must be way ahead of everyone. And they would deserve it. Merceds and Ferrari can try to get them but once ahead RB has a big advantage and until max caught Michael and Lewis I’m ok with that. Somehow I hope nobody ever gets to 8 titles just for Michael’s sake.

    Boundary layer air isn’t good for cooling because it’s moving slowly and thus means you get less air and less heat exchange.

  • @davidaugustofc2574

    @davidaugustofc2574

    3 ай бұрын

    @@cademckee7276 That's a misconception of yours, turbulent boundary layers are not ideal, but most radiators still are more efficient with slower moving, higher pressure, air, and the entire purpose of radiator duct inlet design is to slow down the incoming airflow. I suggest you watch the Fast and the Nerdy "How to design your car's radiator ducting" and read Willem Toet's (former F1 designer) article about Air Ducts, before spreading misinformation.

    "Turbulent boundary layers are often preferred in heat exchanger and other engineering applications because they provide more efficient heat transfer." Quote from Conflux Engineering EV engineering site. I have known this for decades. I have built, raced and flown many things. Fast laminar flow just rips on by with lots of drag and poor heat exchange.@@cademckee7276

    I don't know if he's genuinely trolling, but at this point I refuse to believe that: - we won't see again the fishtanks with the '26 regulations, claimed by many to be inwash centered; - the concept shown by AM at the start of '22 is totally invalid, and in Newey's hands it could turn out competitive.
