F 250 F 350 Excursion Steering Linkage Alignment (Steering Wheel)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is how you align your steering wheel when it gets off center. This will NOT fix Toe, Caster, Camber issues. Just adjusting your linkage to straighten out the steering wheel.
As always any questions issues leave it in the comments.
Thanks for Watching!

This helped so much. My wheel was almost a half turn off now it’s straight! Thanks a bunch sir!
Thanks for the help! My steering wheel is completely straight now.
Thank you so much for this video. It is very helpful. Much appreciated. 👍
Thanks for the tip. Just put a new drag link on mine today which fixed the play in the wheel but I need to get the wheel straightened back up
Thanks this was helpful fine sir
My steering wheel looks just like yours did. Steering wheel was approximately at 10 o’clock to go straight. How much did you have to turn that in order to straighten out your wheel? I have gone almost half of a turn to know effect. I don’t want to just keep turning the thing
Thanks for a great video, answered a few of my questions but I have a couple more. When adjusting do you need to jack the front up? Should I position the steering wheel to center before adjusting? Thanks for the help.

Yes Jack up the front and put steering wheel straight
Looks like you're missing a couple pieces to that set up might be the reason why your getting knocked out of place so easily by hitting little bumps
My 09 F250 was oppisite of what was discribed here. I had to turn the cupler up toward the engine to get the steering wheel to go from left to right; must be a year thing.
Thanks a lot for filming!
So do you adjust both at same time or just 1?
I did this. I hit a small tie wall turning around it grabbed my steering wheel and spun it hard, now my steering wheel is almost upside down. Nothing seems bent but I’m not sure how to straighten it back, is this what I need to do
Good info thanks

Sorry to go off-topic, but who makes your steering wheel cover? I've tried a bunch of them and I've never seen one fit as well as that one, thanks!

Found it on Amazon. Don’t think they carry that brand anymore. It was years ago.
My ford 250 01 steering wheel turns but tires don't turn at all what happened
Should be a little brace bar it goes in between both of those bolts and wraps around it underneath the nut

Some trucks have them some don’t. Depends on the condition they are in when you buy them used. I replaced part of the steering linkage on this truck but not all.
All I can say is thank you

Stupid question? But once the the bolts are loosened does this turn by hand or channel locks to set it ? Thank u

Depends on how rusty your linkage is. Use channel locks. Or spray penetrant on it if you want it loose.

You'd get rid of the counter-intuitive part if you first translate what the steering wheel is doing to what the tires are doing! If your steering wheel is at, say 3pm, when you are going straight ahead, that means that when the steering wheel is str8... the actual wheels must be in a left turn... From there it's clear you ought to Extend the drag link.
Hoping for a quick answer, im One of the few excursion owners in norway and getting advice and parts here is pretty difficult. with that being said, u just want some answers to a few questions. 1. do i have to jack up the front? Didnt seem like you did. Its pretty heavy and i dont have a jack thats big enough 2. how much does it require to turn the linkage? I loosened the clamps but the main linkage is stuck, do i need waterpump pliers 3. do i need to straighten the steering wheel first, ill have to tighten it first because right now its pretty slacky or loose. Sorry for my bad english and im hoping for a quick answer

1 - The wheels must remain on the ground so they do not move and the linkage does 2- Depends on rust, debris, and age of linkage. Have some penetrating oil on hand. 3- you need to have your wheels as straight as possible, then move the linkage till your steering wheel is straight. Hope this helps

@@mikesmachines9394 thanks for the help, my linkage is different than yours, not mechanically i hope but first off i dont have a nut holding the bolt on the clamps, so i only had to loosen the bolt with a nut driver. But when i got unsure i just fastened them again and waited for your answer. Again thanks for the help, these cars are extremely rare in my country, our roads are narrow and gas prices are crazy. Diesel costs around 8 dollars per gallon

WOW! $8 a gallon! Crazy prices. Is your a 6.0 or 7.3?? 7.3 is better on MPG in my experience. Less emissions equipment starving the engine

@@hanniusms mine’s a 7.3 my mpg varies alot, in norway the main top speed on most of the roads is 50 mph or 80kmh. My mpg lies anywhere from 8mpg to 25mpg depends if im driving in traffic or not Usually when im filling diesel i fill tax free, its really meant for farmers or construction companies who have to fill up their tractor or wheelloader, its way cheaper as long as u dont get caught, getting caught will run you 1000$ the first time, the second time it’s 2000$
What did you use to turn the linkage? Channel locks?
@mikesmachines9394

Yes you can use channel locks if the linkage is rusted tight.

Why on earth didn't you show people how to actually adjust the tie rod?????
@mikesmachines9394
2 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you show them master mechanic?? This adjustment is for the steering wheel not individual tow settings on each front wheel.
Should you do this before or after an alignment?
@mikesmachines9394
4 жыл бұрын
This affects the steering wheel position only. Will not affect tow, caster, or camber of your front suspension. So do it before, during, or after.
@PistonShack

I would say do it before you go to do alignment.
Took the time to make the video but didn't even show how to adjust it... Lol
How do you turn the adjustment sleeve on the rusty threads. Not strong enough to do it by hand.
@mikesmachines9394

@@mikesmachines9394 10/4, thanks brother. I was afraid of squeezing/bending the adjustment sleeve beyond use.
@mikesmachines9394

Not to worry. The actual linkage is solid tubing and the coupling won’t deflect. If you are worried put some penetrant on the threads and let it sit for 10-15 minutes then try to adjust.
