Explaining the Difference Between SSD NVMe and M2 SATA and mSATA
Ғылым және технология
What is NVMe M2 SSD and M.2 SATA or mSATA - what is the difference when choosing an SSD. We show the difference between the SATA bus from PCI-E, and also help with the choice of adapter for the M2 SSD.

M.2 storage can be in SATA and NVMe types - So what is the difference between M.2 SATA and M.2 NVMe?
If you still don’t know which one you need and what to buy the M2 SSD, then watch this video where it is clearly shown what is the difference between M2 NVMe and SATA M2 and the difference from mSATA. We show how the M2 connector differs in types for M2 SATA and M2 NVMe. We’ll also show you what to do if you are in a hurry, don’t check the presence of the M.2 connector on the motherboard and bought an M.2 SATA drive, and your laptop only supports 2.5 SATA. We show which adapters can be used to use the M2 SATA form factor in the 2.5 SSD / HDD package.

For those who have this question: When you adapt a Nmve (PCIe) to an standard SATA conector, the speed of the Nmve will decrease to te maximum of a SATA III speed, wich is 600mb/s.

Easy enough. If you can support NVME try to find a good module on sale. I remember when a CD-ROM drive was $300 (that one could not write either) now you can get then dirt cheap if you search enough

Thanks for the technical description of each one. Something to clarify, using NVMe drives has a higher performance because it uses the PCIe bus lane. The CPU can access this bus lane faster than on a SATA specification.

there is no use of using NVMe in a SATA adapter as it SATA has AHCI interface and the NVMe card is made for PCIe interface. SATA has limit of 6Gbps. so it is bettter to buy SSD sata drive for cloning metal drives.

@@BomJimmy bro why does the adapter u.2 (2.5'') for nvme m.2 did exist, I wonder if it works?
@Mr.Smith_Mr.Wesson_andMe
3 жыл бұрын
@@ellwalenndhejunny3229 It doesn't matter what is inside the box. The whole thing is determined by the connector to the computer, in this case it's SATA. So you only get SATA quality and not (as suggested) NVME quality. So that at least this "project" can work, the box must have the ability to translate NVME to SATA and vice versa what always goes on cost of speed performance. In the end you won't have even full SATA speed or the box is that much high in price for a hardware coded solution to get the SATA speed goal. Mostly it's an software emulation, i think. Just my 2 pence.

A little late, but in case anyone asks the same question today. You are probably better off getting an NVMe to USB adapter. Those are also the base for many external SSDs and absolutely prooven and cheap technology. I much prefer USB for such purposes because I can also use my Notebook to recover stuff from my PC.

Excellent video. No mention of the PCIe 4.0 or the diffrence between x2 and x4 connections but I think most people care more for the connector types.
