Mam i have seen many junior developers max wth 10 to 12 of years experience earning between 30 to 35 lakh per annum. They are now earning more than some senior programmer who are in their 40 or late 40 . hence this is wrong statement that senior people are removed because they cost more . I see many developer in their 30 they being are hired with 30% to 40% hike. So that will happen to them if they reach their 40 years age same cycle that they will be the high paying employes in the company than their current old senior employee ?

I am 48 years old and working as an architect and technicaly when I can contribute technically till then i am valuable. Why we need non-technical like PM , BA in technical industry like IT. In western countries people do coding till age of 60 . Now days junior has lot of demands they quit jobs easily if they don't get work from home, if they don't get good hike. Senior people are clam and mature. I think madam is giving biased opinion. Now days you have less jobs for manager this culture is totally reverse in USA

Yes this is true about Indian it companies. With more experience if we work as a developer clients can except wonders to happen in an hour because that is how they send billing to the clients. But for product based companies it is a different story, she meant about service based companies. And there are less product based companies in India.

  • @rajat9619

Correct, Engineers like doctors also need to study till they practice, till/beyond retirement. But leave 40-42, more than 50% people in our country want to be pure non-tech manager by/before 30 & just manage login/logout & leaves, gives false deadlines, question & humiliate techies illogically. Many in their 20s itself wanna do MBA, PGDBA, PMP, Prince2, ITIL, etc, that's it. This is why our country doesn't have global top ranking in building our own foundation H/w like microprocessors & foundation S/w like OS, foundation protocols like TCP/IP, FC, etc. We are just assembling imported things. Our generic TV advertisements also glorify managers but not techies like that. In tech world, just like medical world, people & project management are add-ons & not core skill.

Video with factual info. What we can also learn from this video indirectly is that majority of companies are more interested in profits than people. They can take a hit on a few quality issues without seniors by blaming mid level leads. I have seen people who used to say "L & T" is my blood etc. etc and sooner than later they might have discovered that L & T has sucked all their blood and they have nothing to give anymore to L and T and without blood they would any ways die.

This is is mainly seen in India. In western countries you can see a lot of developers in their 50s. Indians generally slack off after 35. Once you become outdated it is difficult. I think issue is with kind of work done in Indian service companies. It doesn't need high technical skills. Very little skill development happens if you stay at same place for 15 to 20 years. Brain of an average person will stagnate and become rigid. Then why try making this person learn new technologies? - when you can have energetic youngsters coming around and doing the same for less.

In the USA, remote workers in their 60s cost less because they move to smaller cities to prepare for retirement. Keeping your skillset current is a given, regardless of your age or experience. The cost of living in middle-of-nowhere Texas is one-third of California for example. Also, discrimination over age 40 is illegal and can lead to an expensive lawsuit and possible prosecution by Federal authorities. Working into one's 70s is fairly common.

This may be true for service based companies. But in many of the product based companies, employees have an option to choose between IC and people management. They can even switch between those whenever they want. It's not only about the pay, its about efficiency too. The major difference I see is that experienced engineers drive the projects/tasks to completion by taking the full ownership which may not always be true for less experienced. The key is to stay relevant in the industry by consistently upgrading tech-stack. If you are in service based company then you certainly are at the will of client, you are just a billable resource.

I am still on technical lines and do learn and keep up but it is my domain knowledge that gives me an edge not the technology. Writing my view with just 7-8 yrs of experience. Trust me, no "corporate technical skill" including AI/ML persona holds respect after you stop learning, no matter the age. Being adaptable, getting management skills are yet another trash. Only way to save your butt is to gain general skills, understand the industry and step into market. Suppose if youre working IT, understand how contracts are drafted and business deals are made. Learn basic data processing skills and find a way where they can be applied in open market. Consulting is not bad though. People may hv different views, but this is all about how you sell yourself. All you need to make sure is that you shud have sufficient technical skills (30%), sales and marketing network (30%), big shot network (20%) like C suite or at least VP/ Director level and rest of 20% should be your family network to support you mentally and physically. All the best🎉

The primary reason is lack of upskilling and investment in yourself. People tend to invest in smart markets, Mutual Funds and real state but not in themselves. They think doing any PG course, certification etc is just waste of time and money or they keep unrealistic expectation that doing some xyz course or certification will give them a overnight boost in salary. Its a long and time investing process, like you need to slowly but consistently keep investing your mutual funds, you also need to keep doing upskilling and rather not wait till last moment.

Not 40-42, I see the trend shifted earlier than that for coding professionals. I say starting from 34-35 no coding or technical. I was not aware unless faced personally in many interviews. Typical Indian HR assumptions not reality, these things were existed in 100's of websites since a decade. I see people above 50 also write code and learn. Generalising about seniors that they can't travel, learn new things. I see millions of juniors who are resistant to adapt new technolgies. Its all greed, fear of HR's due to automation and artificial intelligence.🤣

I just can’t imagine enjoying that work. Mid level managers get shit on all the time. Not for me. Honestly they do nothing most of the time. I would feel like I’m robbing my employer as a manager. I need to be on the front line. Earn my keep.

Pl give a disclaimer that this is a localised issue limited to India. In foreign countries it is punishable to chuck anyone based on age. As long as you keep up with the technology, then you will be more employable over someone fresh out of university who has no clue how to project manage a project. It is an INDIAN CORPORATE Mindset issue, but in the west I know many employees who are above 50 & work in very demanding technical roles & perform mission critical functions.

But few who r in to development.. and have constantly kept them self up to date with core concepts.. they can still function a one more decade with out any hick ups.

I was in Wipro till last year, I have seen 3 architects age 53 years and 48+ Technical Leads and more 45+ with PMs or Tech leads. They are all in Bangalore Wipro now. IT in India changing, it will get better in coming years. If 40+ IT folks are terminated then it creates unwanted competition other fields and it also increases crime rates. So government also aware of this facts.
