Ive watched this video twice, JIM, THANK YOU, again LOL ...these videos should be required to view when getting licensed! It would prevent so many allergies and sad situations from ever happening, my allergy included. For those nail techs out there, my allergy is from overexposure to uncured gel polish, and not from doing my own nails, its from 20+ years of getting my nails done every two weeks with technicians that were not following proper health guidelines with uncured gels and acrylic... one day, I just got a reaction, when nothing like this has EVER happened before! Its from techs who touch gel to your cuticle on every apt, or it can happen to you if you clean your sidewalls with your bare finger nail! My allergy has pushed me to get licensed and to do this myself because its THAT hard to find a nail tech who not only does things correctly, but even KNOW about these types of issues, or further, even know anything about the ingredients in the products they are using every day. I hope everyone seeing this video that is a technician or knows a technician shares this information with another technician, and watches other videos by JIM* especially the ones about HEMA and gel ingredients. These allergies don't just impact my nails, I cant wear lash extensions and the potential of new allergies has significantly increased once you have a reaction. Furthermore, its simply sadening to know I will be dealing with this for the rest of my life and cant go to a nail salon and use any regular get polish now. Or that this might turn into a much larger/worse allergy. Also, it simply makes me sad when this is something that I love and know it was 1000% PREVENTABLE. Your clients rely on you to take care of them, please pass this information on*** :)

Actually resin allergy is NOT 1000% preventable like you say. I know of several people who were allergic to gels the very first time the got there nails done at a reputable salon. Both are allergic to lash glues, sports adhesive tape the first time the tried also.

@@tomjones2157 acrylate allergies can occur quickly, slowly or not at all - you are right. This depends upon the resins used, the exposure of the person to the products and how that person's body reacts to what it is exposed.

It would be great if you would compare the lamps from Amazon because I see a lot of people buying from Amazon on the videos I watch. This is a great video and as a wannabe nail tech it helps me understand the science and I love science and chemistry!!

Hi J - that is a good idea. Unfortunately, I think that this task could really be an ongoing process. I hope that it is sufficient to say that you get what you pay for when it comes to curing lights. Some light manufacturers who sell direct on Amazon and on AliExpress, sell a light to the individual at about the same price that the manufacturer pays after branding. The problem with these companies is that they do not produce lights that are as reliable, in my opinion, as some other curing light manufacturers.

I went to a really reputable salon near me for a builder gel manicure and I was pre-warned about a heat spike. This was the first time I had a builder gel. I then went somewhere else and was worried that they didn’t warn me of a heat spike, but was presently surprised that it didn’t happen. Both were different brands and different lamps. From what I could see, only the second place had the branded lamp to match the gel.

Thanks for all the helpful info! I'm curious as to whether you would ever consider selling to the public. I know Liz is a proponent of increased access to high quality nail products. LE has so many wonderful products, and I know there are a lot of DIYers who would jump on the opportunity use them.

This is why I picked a brand of gel and am sticking to only one brand of gel. Light Elegance has my heart. When I finally move to New Mexico I’m going broke. I have builder gels but nothing more from them yet.

Love LE gels I am new with the products. I was using acrylic before, love gel now a bit difficult to get use to. What I noticed is that it stays on without lifting, I work in water alot and the acrylic use to lift on my pointer fingers and with your gels nothing, I keep them on for about 6 weeks. Thank you for having LE in my city. I haven't bought the DOT whet just ordered it getting it with the spring collection can't wait. I wanted to know what are the effects of under curing what do you look for when you are finished the service. Thank you both for all the info learned alot.

Start small! One colour a month, choose something you currently buy every month and ditch it in favour of a nail polish. It's not easy to deny yourself something but once you've done it a few times it gets easier. I would justify it in my head that if I really wanted or needed that thing I'll remember it in a week. Guess what, couldn't remember the next day what it was that I really wanted to buy 🤣 money saved!

Very educational, thanks! So for the home user like me, that only uses the lamp twice a month for a couple hours each time, if I were to invest in your lamp, what is the life expectancy of your lamp for home use?

I wish I knew what Jim thinks about that small Gelish lamp. I have the Mini 5-45 and I wonder if it is a good lamp. I use the Gelish gels with it. It only has 3 LEDs though.

I have ordered light elegance gel products and am currently waiting on my order. I use the Kiara sky beyond pro volume 2 lamps. They are marketed at being 48 watts but I cannot seem to find additional information as far as nm info. Do you know if that Kiara Sky brand of lamp will adequately cure the light elegance products?

What if the lamp you buy is also not curing although it looks cured? I've experieced this with a lamp purchased. I'm from South Africa.

I love your videos, they are so useful and clear even for the non professional! I have a question: if I suspect that my lamp undercure my gel, can I double the time and be safe? I suspect that I'm developing an allergy for undercure gel... And I'm trying to correct every possible wrong things to be able to continue doing gel nails on myself (use gloves, use Hema free gels, change my lamps, etc), but I need to do it slowly, cause I can't throw away so much money 😭

Well - hello! This is a very sensitive topic and I will touch on a few things here but you and I should probably schedule a phone call. The key topics are what light are you using? How old is the light? What gels are you curing with the light? Do you keep a clean work surface? If you are wondering if double curing the gels will help - yes. What products are you using? Do they contain HEMA? Have you been to a dermatologist who can ascertain if you have a HEMA allergy? There are a lot of factors that are involved but firstly, we need to determine if you have an allergy to HEMA. When can we talk on the phone?

You are so kind ❤️ So sorry, but I live in Italy 🙈 no call for me 😭 I'm using a 36w light, bought in April, I think that it havent enough power (even with her system, an Italian brand named Layla that produce and sell their own products). I'm guilty of use also Chinese products 🙈 and I am pretty sure that I have uncured them (the gel under the tips, for example), I've seen your video and now I understand why! I don't know if I am really allergic to Hema, I'm experimenting. I have had a mild reaction with itching and skin peeling with the Chinese products, I switch to Italian/American product (I have an American product labelled in Italy, so I don't know the original manufacturer, it's called Nailfor) and double the curing time and... No itching and no peeling, the Italian product have Hema free. Thank you for your answer, you are really kind and professional, I really love your videos and if i lived in the US i would buy your products for sure! ❤️❤️

Question: if you are using a quick 15-30 second quick cure to stabilize the product so that it doesn’t flood the sidewalls or move your apex, will the product overcure if you continue this process for all ten nails?

Yes - any lamp color temperature over 4500K might cure the gel. Certainly anything over 5500K will cure it.

Soooooo... what happened to the rubber base you developed?

Hi. I have to plug my led lamp into an extension cable as the wall socket is too far away. Will this effect the amount of power the lamp receives, and the performance of the lamp - will it still cure my gel efficiently?

It really depends upon the quality of the extension cord. Please buy good power cords as the cheap ones will fail at some time 9 times out of 10

This line of questioning brought me to realize that it's possible I mixed up the power cable for my LE Dot and my dust collector. Can anyone on LE's team confirm if the battery pack for the LE Dot is supposed to output 12V-3A or 24V-2.5A?

Hi Duc - we have two lights. The LEDdot is larger and more easily accommodates the foot.

Has the KUPA light been tested with LE gels?

Hi Joan, to which which Kupa light are you referring? We have tested the a Kupa light with these gels and it worked well. That Kupa light that we tested is the Kupa Gelfinity Light and that worked well.

So if I'm doing the test on form to check if its cured properly...I don't believe it is so I try again & double the curing time...am I now at risk of overcuring?

The gels really can't be over-cured other than the gloss gels that have a sticky layer. If the gloss gels with a sticky layer are over-cured, then the gloss is reduced. Some people in the industry also refer to the term "over curing" as too much exothermic reaction. So, avoid too much exothermic reaction and don't over-cure the gloss gels and everything else will be fine.

Not necessarily. The yellowing could be from the chemistry of the gel. Try curing the gel that yellows for less time and see if it yellows over the next few weeks. If it does, then the gel chemistry is the source of the yellowing.

So where does wattage fit in? Wattage measures the electric “ power “ ?

Hi Fionna. Wattage is the amount of electricity that is consumed by the curing light. Wattage is a factor of voltage and current. The higher the voltage, the less current is required to produce the same wattage. If the curing light is a 50 watt light and it runs on 110 volts, then the current required to run the light is 110 volts / 50 watts = 2.2 amps. If the light runs on 220 volts and is a 50 watt light, the current to operate the light is 1.1 amps. You would think that the higher wattage lights would cure better than a low wattage light and that would be correct if all other factors are identical. Those other factors are the type and quality of the LED emitters, power converters, printed circuit boards and more. The problem is that not all of the light manufacturers use the same LED emitters and other components. The best method of determine if the curing light has sufficient power to cure the gel is to perform a series of tests that are specifically designed to see if the light in question actually cures the gel correctly.

Hi Christina, Our LEDdot has a '120s' button on the back. This is our low-power button to reduce the exothermic reaction.

So now that I know that the LED lamps do still use UV, what do we say to the clients that mention UV causing skin cancer? I have been getting that alot lately and my best response was we no longer use UV lamps.

Hi Kayla, it is only some LED curing lights that emit UV wavelengths. Not all lights are UV or partially UV. The LE LEDdot Gen1 & LEDdot Gen2 are both UV and visible spectrum. The LEDdot Gen3 is only visible spectrum. None of the lights emit wavelengths below 360nm. I have been formulating and selling gel nail products for 23 years. I have not seen any indication in that time that nail curing lights cause skin cancer, even when they emitted UV light. Your answer to your clients is great but you could also add that there is no indication that gel curing lights cause skin cancer.

So you use cnd shellac. With the lamp that is recommended by cnd. Now is the exposure dangerous to our health? Is it changing our dna and is causing risk of cancer ?
