Thank you, thank you for bringing on Jim from LE to explain the the facts, the differentials, and complexities down to the science explained simply. I learned about LED VS. UV gel lights/ products recently in class, but I did not understand the importance for getting the same lamps that go with the gel systems since each coMpany perfects the exact ratio. At school, Ive been experiencing the burning sensation when using either AN dual cure hard gel, and YN hard gel on clients curing in LE dot, and the PRO dual cure lamps mix/matched. Some clients nearly jump out of their chairs it’s so hot for them. Eek! This has definitely scares many away from hard gel. Also some of the soft gel colors are curing rinckled in appearance. Also dispell’s it’s products being pushed for monetary purpises- this is perfect though, and just what I needed to know, and will think wisely when purchasing/using other lamps with non matching products. Science rulllless❤️❤️❤️🤓

Great seeing/reading people are interested and knowledgeable in their profession! However, the only time I’ve ever known burning to occur is when the gel is applied too thick! The same goes for crinkling...I’m a Licensed Nail Professional (20+ years)....I’m an OPI Ambassador, CND Master and I take YN, CND, OPI and other classes yearly. (I’m also Registered Nurse)! Always apply gels in thin LAYERS. Another quick tip...flash cure! Meaning, have your client place their hand in the light quickly for 1-2 seconds and immediately take their hand out before continuing with the required time. This step serves 2 purposes: 1) helps prevent the burning sensation AND 2) sets the gel, so that it doesn’t run into the side walls and cuticle area! Hope this helps!

I also learn abut the burning sensation in some video, but was easily avoiding by just curing with a mini lamp from "outside " for 30sec.before putting in the big one...y tried and sure no problems at least to me...

There is NO LED vs UV lamp. So you haven't learned much at all. Both lamps are UV one is a CFL UV lamp the other is a LED UV lamp. BOTH ARE UV

These chemist corner video ARE THE BEST!! Even as a certified nail tech, they didnt teach us half of this stuff. To get it straight from the chemist (and I love how non-biased he gives the information, he doesn't self promote Light Elegance in an annoying way) is for me a dream come true. I love all the research and details but not being a chemist, wasnt sure I was understanding things right. Nice to know I got half of my lamp research correct. 🤣

I've corrected so many people by telling them its not UV or LED, its CFL or LED, but I've also said that all lamps emit UV wavelengths which turns out to be not entirely true because Jim said LED lamps start around 405 nm, which means LED lamps do not include UV !!

It's bewildering and disheartening to not understand why my gel polish failed after all the effort I put into it. That was over a year ago, now I can try again.

No matter what gel or what lamp I use, even doing thin layers, my gel nails always feel just slightly rubbery. I have 4 different lamps (varying watts), 3 LED, 1 UV 9 watt. Since I'm retired and just do my own nails with hard gel, same one some friends, it always ends the same way. We step outside in the desert sun and hold our hands out for about 2 minutes and the nails become rock solid. Thank you for the great videos! I think this video explained what my problem is with curing. I can't wait to try Jimmy Gel and I'll heck out the LE lamps.! Now I also know why some of my clear gels turn yellow!

Thanks so much for all the helpful info! As a DIYer I have owned multiple lamps over the years. I started with one of those super cheap UV lamps from amazon. When I upgraded to an LED I found that it couldn't cure shellac, and I sadly gave up using that brand for years. Then I started getting into hard gels, and found out that my cheap LED didn't cut it. It wasn't fully curing the LE ideal pink builder product that I love (I mean it's the perfect color pink). I purchased your hybrid lamp, and was happy to find that is easily cured not only LE products, but also shellac! I was so happy to get my favorite shellac color back (strawberry smoothie) and to be able to add other shellac colors to my collection. The difference between a $20-30 lamp and an $80 lamp is a lot! You get what you pay for ;)

JIM why did you choose CND, Kupa and gelish hybrid lamps And not Akzentz hybrid or Liz's hybrid lamp lamp on TNH? Are you saying those featured lights could fully cure LE hard gels among others. What about the cnd led? JIM how do I know the input/output is proper/enough power to run the lamp optimally. Sometimes my lights flicker in my room that I rent. In the US. Could that have to do with the load being to heavy on the circuit. Would that affect output? Your integrity and honesty about these tools and the proper use really helps me understand on another level. I may have to look more into LE products I just love the transparency of LE. You can also use a Rockwell test to check the hardness of the Gel, Machinist use it to test heat treatment of metals.

@The Nail Hub Such an amazing video anyone who buys a gel curing lamp or works with gels needs to see this. I actually commented on a video of yours about 6 months back thanking you for NOT saying UV lamp or LED - cause it drives me nuts !! BUT if we want to be technical are we both not slightly wrong saying all lamps emit UV light ? Because all CFL lamps emit UV but LED Lamps according to Jim, are 405 nm and higher and that's not UV, but Deep Violet and Violet Spectrum or Visible Spectrum ?

Copied from nail cleanser video: Hello! Thanks for your videos, love them! ❤️ question: isn’t it best to use a lower convent of IPA? It’s my understanding that anything above 90% evaporated too quickly which means the alcohol doesn’t have enough time to actually kill surface bacteria. Lower concentrations don’t evaporate quickly giving the alcohol time to do its job. Is that true? Thank you!

Liz, I have a couple questions 1). your opinion on metal base vs plastic base 2). I have seen lamps with a purple light, clear light and even a pinkish light...when on. What is the difference with those 3 color lights when on and which one is recommended and why? tia

I knew this is a little older, Liz if you see this can you recommend maybe a not so expensive lamp for me to purchase for my daughter in law? She keeps using my gelish harmony and I prefer to buy her one. I just don't want to spend 300$. Shes not a nail professional, just using gels and hard gels at home.

I use Luminary gels, so I purchased the LE Dot because that’s what they recommended. I am disappointed because just after a year of owning it, I realized it wasn’t curing my product all the way through. I am looking to buy a new lamp, but now I am a little gun shy to buy another $200 lamp if it is only going to last a year (and I only work part time, about 15 clients per week). Should I chance another dot, or are one of these other lamps better? Thanks!

Hi Liz, can you do a nail lamp review ( in the distant future) video like Suzie from nail education did on nail lamps from Amazon. A more updated version maybe discussing good lamps available to the everyday general public but with all the added knowledge you have when it comes to curing gel properly?

So if a gel polish brand says that their polishes cure at 365-405 nm, would the LE mini dot potentially be able to cure these, with it having a wavelength of 405 nm? or does the wavelength of the lamp have to include 365 as well as 405 nm, such as the LE dot (full size)? Would any lamp of the wavelength 365+405 nm potentially be able to cure soft and hard gels that cure at the same wavelength? Just want to make sure I have understood correctly...

If it cures both traditional CFL UV gels as well as newer LED UV gels it will be what is considered a full spectrum lamp which emits 365nm-405nm. It most likely uses LEDs as the bulb but emits the full range of UV-A needed to cure both types of gel nail products.

Hi, I'm a nail tech of 40 years and have changed to gel nails. I have a client with EXTREMELY hot hands and very moist nails that require infills every 2 weeks. Firstly, I use a dehydrator and primer, but still find extra lifting around the cuticle and sides (she also has very concave nail beds). Do you have a remedy to help with this. Cheers, from Australia too.

This is a very complex answer that has to do with measuring the amount of heat that’s released during the gel curing process, matched with the potential output of the lamp, and also measuring how many exposures it takes to get to essentially fully exhausted gel product. It’s a very complex conversation and that’s why it’s more difficult to provide a straight answer than it is to say buy the lamp that goes with your gel system. The Nail industry has been very cryptic about lamps in the way that gel systems are matched with nail lamps. This is something that I am actively working on but for the interim, you can watch a video that I posted that’s called is it cured and I show how you can do simple temperature tests to at least get an idea of how well your gel is curing in a given lamp. The other rule of thumb is honestly if your lamp cost you less than $150 I would put my money on the fact that it’s not fully curing of your products.
