Exodus: Mass Effect's True Successor Made By Bioware's Old Guard
It was only recently that I realised that a game shown to us some two months ago at the Game Awards could in fact be the next big RPG of our generation and more importantly, the next big science fiction RPG of our generation. Exodus is being made by Archetype Entertainment, a studio composed of industry veterans, with key people such as Jame Ohlen, Chad Robertson and Drew Karpyshyn, leading the project, all of whom hail from Bioware's Golden Age, with such storied titles as the original Baldur’s Gate games, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect and Jade Empire, among others under their belts and what's more, they have been given complete freedom to make the game exactly the way they want to with no corporate interference. I think this is going to be better than Mass Effect. Sounds too good to be true? Check out the video as I offer proof that this is going to be really, really big.

All those games that he was made are the main reason why are we in gaming 1998. Baldur's Gate and Tales from the Sword Coast expansion. Interplay and BioWare were the Kings of western RPG. Thank you there is a hope, our time on Earth isn't so long, EA took beautiful 10 years from us, never first person, never multiplayer where our precious time depends on others patience knowledge and their free time. We are living for good RPGs with realistic next gen visuals cinematic cutscenes and straight romances
Never forget, studios do not make games, people do. You can see this in Blizzard. All the people who made those game we love, they're long gone from that company. I was weary the moment you said WotC approached him. WotC is also a terrible company, but then you mentioned that they'll be hands off. I will reserve judgement but I look forward to what they can do. Can you imagine, Bungie gameplay and Mass Effect storytelling and companions? Sounds like a winning recipe to me.
If Drew Karypshin is in, then I am all in, take my money. It is because of him, that Mass effect is one of the best works of fiction ever written in any medium, be it books, movies, games. I still long for stories in the Universe of Mass effect, the races were so well thought, the scariest villain ever conceived, humans' place in the order of things with respect to the galaxy. It was just perfect.
The trailer did catch my eye, but I'm always interested in learning more about any sci-fi games. We don't see enough of them as far as I'm concerned. So, I hope you're right! I've heard some things over the years, but I still wonder form time to time what ME3 would have been like had we gotten the version of the story Drew Karpyshyn had intended to end the trilogy with.
I feel like I need to remind people that the same mindset was present when Obsidian released a trailer for The Outer Worlds. Them being the devs for Fallout: New Vegas, expectations were very high. Those expectations fell short when the game released. It was by no means a bad game, it was average. Unfortunately, an average game means that its the likeliest to be forgotten by the gaming community. All I'm saying is, temper those expectations cause OG devs doesn't guarantee another great game.

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade here but i recently saw leaked image of one the first important squad mate and story character, it was literally a tattooed and pink haired Tumblerina, completely immersion breaking and very current year western design.

I hope so man. Dragon age 1 and mass effect 1/2 are some of my all time favorite games. Unfortunately no publisher is going to be “hands off” when their money is involved.
I would never trust Wizards of the Coast with any kind of agreement like that, even if it was in the contract. They'll let him do whatever he wants only as long as he's doing exactly what they want him to do.

Love your optimism, but that trailer has DEI written all over it. I do love me some old Bioware--and Mass Effect 1 and KotOR 1 are still my favorite games--so I'll remain cautiously optimistic. However, we've all heard that "we're making the game we wanna make" spiel from so many developers that I've lost count, and that trailer isn't helping. I still see Squadron 42 as the spiritual successor to Mass Effect, but we'll just have to wait and see.

What makes you think it has "DEI written all over it"? Because the characters are kind of brownish and there is a woman in it? IIRC Mass Effect 1 had some lore that suggested that 200 years in the future people had blended enough to where most humans had a kind of greyish hue or whatever. In the actual game this wasn't obvious, and we had examples of NPCs with distinct asian/indian/african features and typical skin colors. I think of the "people blend and we are all mostly the same grayish brown" in these types of stories not as an attempt to remove white people in a DEI way, but instead like an optimistic view of the future à la Star Trek. That's a very "color blind" classically liberal point of view where we have moved past conflicts about race/sex etc. If a game takes place in a contemporary setting, having women be action heroes on a similar level to men (on a large scale) is rather unrealistic and I might think the game has a political agenda it's trying to force on me. But if the game takes place 200 years in the future, or even in a fantasy world, I don't think it needs to be the same thing. In a fantasy setting the sexes might have developed/evolved differently resulting in more similar patterns of behaviour and utility between the sexes. In a sci fi world humanity might be doing genetic modification or medical treatments to smooth over inequities of traits between people. Women as 50% of the combatants on the front lines of a war at that point could be a reality. I think that's a very different thing from black females with prosthetics on the front lines of ww2.

I agree that we, as gamers, should give this studio a chance, but it is too soon to praise them! I want to see the game first, or at least a chunk of gameplay, to make a fair judgment.
First I would like to know how much DEI they've inserted into the game and also if Sweet Baby Inc. or any other companies of the like are involved in the game's development. Just because it's BioWare's "old guard" that doesn't guarantee that the game will in fact be any good. Hopefully it's being done in Unreal 5 so we can maybe expect that it's technically polished, but given the amount of times I've seen a game being hyped up only to crash down like a meteor? Yeah... No pre-orders from me.
I had no idea this existed. Good to know, and thanks for the video.
I am very cautious with things like this, but... The fact that Karpyshyn is speaking positively of it gives me a good amount of hope. The man has a documented history of pulling the ripcord and bailing out of projects he feels won't deliver to his standards. I don't particularly like WotC. I don’t particularly like some of Archetype's partners, but the fact that Karpyshyn is not only sticking around, but is openly speaking positively of their work... that has my attention. I hope they can deliver. I'll be first in line if they do.

Alan Wake 2 literally blackwashed a preexisting European woman from the first game and made her the protagonist of the second, replacing the eponymous Alan Wake for the majority of the game. White man incompetent, saved by strong Black woman. Same tired tropes. The sales numbers are shit, despite reviewer shills pump up the numbers to fan the woke message.

This looks more woke than Mass Effect Andromeda.
"This game could even exceed Mass Effects' quality"...That's a very TALL order to fill and I'm not holding my breath, but I would truly love to see that...even with some of the great games we've had since, there has never been another game on the same level as Mass Effect and that is a void that severely needs to be filled...

Sweet Baby Inc is partnered with WoTC so I am not optimistic that this game will arrive unspoiled.
"Diverse" casting says you're wrong, it will be just as bad as every other new media.
Archetype Entertainment and their extreme old guard dev roster ought to have AAA studios on high alert, especially after Larian and BG3 just handed them their asses. If you were to 'get the inside story' from these old guard devs, all their stories for leaving would have a single running thread: corporate interference make development untenable. I dearly want Exodus to succeed spectacularly.
I do appreciate that even without sound I can clearly understand the story through the trailer. Here's hoping the game turns out well. I honestly haven't bought a triple a studio game since.. Hell I really don't know. I think I got Triangle Strategy on my switch years ago?
Sweet baby inc detected. The most default generic diverse characters. But game itself looks promising. Hope they write their story well at least.
Interesting, but will they avoid the fallacy of targeting the 'modern audience'? The trailer with the poc girl boss doing girl power things is not helping.
