Actually this is not entirely true. Unless I missed some other event where members mentioned this, this was mentioned in Starshow360 and they said it was a recent thing at the time. Lay was super busy in 2015/2016 (He was literally on the plane almost every day lol) so that probably affected his speed of learning a choreography.

this isn’t really true he said this in 2016 bc he would only have about 2 days to learn the choreo while the rest would have a whole week bc he was balancing schedules in china and korea so in fact it was actually the opposite since he had less time to learn the choreo

I find Lay’s dancing to be so smooth, he makes me think that he has zero bones and is just 100% water. Kai, on the other hand, his presence captivates me. He dances as if he is trying to tell a story through dancing, which I find amazing. But they both are good dancers in their own ways. Nice video Raven! You did a wonderful job in detailing and the rankings!

For me, since SM debuted CBX, I totally saw how much he improved. Hello, "Hey Mama" is a hard choreo already but he slayed "Blooming Days" too which is way harder.

I just want to say how proud I am of Baekhyun, he improved so much and deserves a lead dancer position alongside with Xiumin (I thought Xiumin already had it, too). He’s truly a genius idol!

I pretty much agree with the ranking. As for me, Kai is a better Routine dancer while Yixing is a better Battle dancer. He really has a furious sprite, esp the Krump that he's been learning, which put him legit on another level. The violent aesthetic among all the dance styles indeed and showing off his musicality the best. Thanks for the video, missed them all together ...

Thought the same, they are totally interchangeable depending on the concept and genre although saw many other rankings Kai is placed 1st as he indeed has the strongest stage presence. exo has one of the best dance line I’ve seen. Kai and Lay truly reminded me a lot about bts main dancers. It’s too hard to put one over another in a fixed way.

In terms of facials, versatility, and stage presence, id say kai is the best, but in technique, consistency, choreographing and freestyling, lay is better.

Finally someone sees Chen's improvement ❤️ Also, Baekhyun never had dancing position he's just improved so much that people want him to have one. But Xiumin was part of the original OT12 dance line. The 6 members that did the dance break in MAMA. 4 from EXO M(Lay, Luhan, Tao, Xiumin) and 2 from EXO K(Kai and Sehun)

I think Sehun and lay have some things in common, like they lacks of facials and little less flow and that's why they don't shine as much as kai on exo's choreos bc it doesn't suit them, I really enjoy lay choreos on his solos bc he shows the style that really suits him which is more hip hop, popping, krumping, same as Sehun he really shines when he do this style as we have been able to see on his solos

Sorry to reply after 3 years, but Lay doesn’t lack flow, in this sector he is better than Kai,Kai has his own style, he customised it, Kai can be little stiff but he uses his weakness into his benefit, while lay also has unique style but not so exclusive like Kai, Lay not shine in EXO because he always have little to no screentime or centre time to showcase his skill.

Seriously baekhyun is good dancer, you guys need to watch his fancams . He is super good and manage to stay vocally stable.

What’s insane is that baekhyuns not even a lead dancer let alone a main dancer yet exos choreographer always chooses him to substitute for Kai (who’s a main dancer) when kais injured. more importantly, baekhyun is the only member excluding dance line who got a couple of solo dance breaks. in conclusion, baekhyun is a natural god gifted dancer.

Aside from the fact that he's a fast learner, he's really the most fluid member.. He can dance to any genre(like Lay) without looking awkward. You will see how great of a dancer he is when he's not singing.

Fun fact: baekhyun was considered as one of the worst dancers of exo before he debuted, but he worked so hard on this that now he learns the choreography the fastest of them and is one of the best dancers of EXO

I'm glad you take into Lay's solo work into account. Most ppl only watched overall EXO performances to make judgement on who is the better dancer. This is unfair towards Lay because he obviously does not have equal opportunity to showcase his skills as main dancer. In some choreo he is even shoved at the back despite being the main dancer. This is the main reason why he is overshadowed. You can see in choreo like Transformer or even Call Me Baby, he has no issue shining when he is actually given the opportunity.

Kai and Lay have very different things to offer. I agree that when it comes to ranking both it comes down to personal preference. But when together they're very lethal.

Lay is a better dancer and Kai is a better performer! As the OP said, the ranks are interchangeable!! Love OT9❤️❤️

Lay has technique and style to perfection. He knows when to go hard and to take it slow and smooth. He has like full control of every muscle in his body. And he makes it look so easy. Man's never ever gonna show he's struggling, he always has the same face.

So this was almost identical to my own personal ranking. I would've switched Xiumin and Baekhyun. I don't care how big a website or award show is. It doesn't mean the information they give is accurate. It could just be what they think. I say Xiumin is the lead dancer in EXO and he is the main dancer in EXO-CBX. I prefer Lay's dancing but I always thought Kai's versatility is what might make him a step ahead for a lot of people's opinions and it's very understandable. Kai and Lay are amazing and it's such a shame that Lay does get overshadowed in everything.

Yeah, Lay hiatus at 2016 when he can get more screentime. When there is exok n exom, sm tend to push exok more. Thats is reason kai get more screentime and 2016's cb (exo cb as one) lay get more screentime but then he hiatus. New people dont know that lay is the main dancer of exp and old people forget that he is the main dancer.

Yes, as a dancer myself, personally Kai's technical background and versatility make him first on my list. His lines are insanely beautiful; his body is so perfect for a ballerino if he went that route it makes me jealous 😭 (I'm in the short legs, too curvy club). And his facials and stage presence are just next level; he shines in live performances. BUT I've been enjoying Lay's dancing and performances a lot more the past few years with his solo work, he really developed his own style and he shines in it. His movements are so smooth and his transitions *chefs kiss*.

I get that people have different preferences when it comes to dancing, but it’s very weird that yixing cannot be ranked first in these ranking without people comparing him to others and discrediting his dancing. this doesn’t happen nearly as much to the other members and its very annoying

i agree that chen has improved soooo much ever since he joined cbx. and also agree do’s biggest weakness is underdancing but im never sure if its bc of his dance abilities or if he just isnt the mood to “pop off”. i also think lay is exo’s best dancer.

it's honestly very annoying how many people don't acknowledge lay as one of the two main dancers of the group. he is a great dancer overall and he is just not appreciated enough among the kpop community and i remember being pissed at this as a lay biased baby exo-l

Finally someone said it. Lay really has it. He improved more when he learned Krump. Lay can also freestyle really well. I also think baekhyun is a better dancer than xiumin. Like kai, his facials are on it. His isolations especially the hip movements!!!

Fun fact about me: EXO was the 4th group that i knew.

I agree with the entire ranking except that I would put Xiumin before Baekhyun. He is CBX's main dancer, after all. My ranking: 1. Kai/Lay 2. Sehun 3. Xiumin 4. Baekhyun 5. Chen 6. Kyungsoo 7. Suho 8. Chanyeol

Thank you so much , finally a good unbiased video . For Chen Im really happy you placed him in six in some videos they have put him 8/9.I have no knowledge on dancing but I could easily see he is not last and I love his stage presence his killing expressions the most . Im really happy that from being a person who didnt studied dancing with such a short training period with being only main vocalist in EXO M, adjusting to a foreign language ,country ,travelling between korea and China(SM used this little guy in most performances where senior artists came) yes he couldnt dance so well during debut but his improvement with time is so good . And Im waiting for his solostage of dancing oneday . Its so sad in most EXO live choreo even in Obsession he is placed in back most of the time and little screen time when he is really a decent dancer.

Chen and Baekhyun have both MAJORLY improved. Next to yeol I always thought they were subpar dancers. I think Baeks placement is fair, his stage presence mixed with his dancing make him one of the best.

I love how you explain why you have ranked the members rather than just showing us clips of them dancing like most channels do. Being able to understand why you have given them that ranking makes it much easier to agree with you. ❤

FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITING

When it comes to the Dance world Chen does have his flaws, but (As a Dancer myself) I can see that he has a lot of isolation potential, also I’ve noticed that Chen focuses more on preserving his vocals and under dancing to save his breath on his vocals, While Kai on the other hand focuses more on his Dancing rather than having stable Live vocals (Its ok if you don’t agree this is just my opinion).

As for Kyungsoo,I think he’s one of the stood out dancer in EXO-K but along the years I feel like he pull back on his dancing for some reason that I don’t know. For KAI/LAY, they’re both such a great dancer within their own style. Lay is very good at free styling and do lots of type of dance. While Kai,the way he moves just so fluid like he’s become one with the song and he puts lots of emotion into his dance. I always got mesmerized watching him dance.

My ranking (im also a dancer) Chen, Baekhyun, Lay, kai, Sehun, Xiumin 9. Chanyeol, I can say that he is still stiff but not as much as like in their debut. 8. Suho, only difference over chanyeol is that Suho knows how to use his stiffness 7. D.O, He is already a good idol dancer, but I never saw him doing anything special in terms of dancing 6. Chen, like D.O but I see his lines are somewhat smoother that D.O 5. Baekhyun, Like Chen but he is like a lead dancer to EXO already, his groove is also better than Chen 4. Xiumin, there are confusions about his position, there are sites that says he is a Lead Vocal, Lead Dancer which is reasonable since he is very good in both. 3. Sehun, his edge is his long body and limbs, although I see him sometimes as stiff, I think his other dances covers it. 2. Kai, He is almost tied with Lay, he is very good especially on group dances because he can blend alongside others well. 1. Lay, the only edge Lay has on Kai I think is his isolation, he is like a robot already but I see him better in solo dances since I feel like his concept doesn't really match exo's current concepts

My ranking looks exactly the same..Lay became my bias bcus I saw him dancing and just fell in love, I was always sad that sm never put him at the front while performing even tho he his the main dancer and bcus of that he could never show his dance skill and his facial expressions improved a lot since his solo (for example his joker performance).. and for Baekhyun I also prefer his style more than xiumin even tho xiumin is the main dancer in cbx (but he is still great just my preference) also Baekhyun has also great stage presence and facial expressions like Kai

I can see why u gave minseok the position u gave him. He's a great dancer but often he looks like he's thinking, and it doesn't come off as effortless as Baekhyun. Dance is always about making what you do look easy.

I once posted that I thought Lay was an overall better dancer then Kai, people came at my neck. I said they had to look at overall technique. I'm glad I'm not the only one to think/say this...

5:22 If I'm not wrong we started calling him lead dancer when their dance coach(or their choreographer, i really don't remember who it was) said Baekhyun really improved during Monster era so he even gave him a solo dance part.

I was so waiting for this ranking as EXO is my No.1 group! I did my own ranking before starting the video and I only got Kai and Lay switched up compared to yours. And I do think it's a "taste" thing, they're both amazing :D I'd like to see SHINee, Infinite or Teen Top next!

I completely agree with the video... And personally "baek and xuimin" as well as "Kai and Lay" could be interchangeable acc to the preferences.. For me,baek uses more power when camera focus on him, which makes the next moves weaker or less powerful...on the other hand xuimin is more consistent. And with Kai and Lay, even though height is a disadvantage for Kai for the EXO choreo, it's never visible while he's dancing..but on the other hand it feels as if the choreo is made for him.. when it comes to dancing as group, I would prefer to rank Kai as 1st..he brings the group together in my opinion. Where as Lay is an amazing dancer and there is no doubt about that. As a soloist, or as a mentor, or on dance battles or as a choreographer, he is unparallel... He kills every choreo he gets...even though he gets very little time to be with exo due to his schedule, he still outshines others..but he has less facial features... So, for exo, I would choose Jongin as rank 1 and overall dancing I would choose Lay as 1st... Between, both are my biases 😉😉

Lay makes dancing look so easy that I get up and realize I haven’t danced for a year and I’ll probably break some if I try so I sit back down

As a Kyungsoo stan, I am a bit sad to see that his performances have become quite inconsistent in recent years and his facials are often blank. I can definitely see the point in your ranking, I think Jongdae has had such a great improvement. However, I do think Kyungsoo has a natural knack for dancing, and if I take into account his dance performance in Swing Kids (which was not only in a totally different style but he also portrayed the character's feelings through dancing very effectively. And he had no stunt double, it was all him) I might still place him 6th.... either way thank you for the great vid!

Kai once said D.O. is the best dancer in vocal line. And since EXO released MAMA in every dance break there are Kai at the center, Sehun on his left and D.O. on his right. In Dont fight the feeling MV D.O. has the "crab step dance" and the camera focus on his dancing 😬

I agree with the rankings, I'll focus on talking about the top 2 more, since there's been this debate about Kai vs Lay thing. I would say that in terms of an idol dancer, Kai would be slightly in the lead simply because of his flaming stage presence and his theatre dancing skills. He is very good in telling a story while dancing, which is honestly quite beautiful, He has had contemporary and ballet training in the past and I can see his improvement with those styles even in the present. But if you had to rank him as a dancer, I would say he tops choreography but in overall dancing I would say he is a good 9.5. His weakness is his technicality, he is sometimes not that fluid and his isolations aren't consistently sharp. Now let's go with Lay, he is probably had the biggest dancing improvement in the past 3 years from what I've seen. He is a master in choreography, he can create his own choreography, not just that he is a master at freestyle. There was this show called SDC which is Street Dance of China, on season 3 Lay was invited to come, he was 1 out of 4 celebrities which included both Wang Yibo and Jackson Wang. On an episode 4 of the celebrities are told to battle for their teams sake, and Lay easily won, he was able to freestyle for 4 rounds and looking like a much better dancer than some of the rest. Now let's go to his style, he can do dance styles such as Locking, Popping and his current dance style is Krump. Krump is one of the hardest dance category out there that you can learn, he learned Krump from a 2018 World Krumpire Champion named Trix, and honestly his improvement in 2021 is just insane, he is sharp, master of isolation, fluid and versatile. The dancers on the show of SDC also said that Lay could get a rank in a world class street battle with his krump abilities. Overall I would give Lay a rating of 10, so I would give the win to Lay as an overall dancer, if this was as a kpop dancer which requires stage presence and facial expressions, I would give it to Kai as Lay's weakness is those of what a Kpop dancer needs.

I haven’t been able to take Chanyeol’s dancing seriously since I watched that “Things you didn’t notice in The Eve by Exo Dance Practice” (or something along those lines). I feel bad, but my brain cannot disconnect from that.

Call me delusional if you want but Baekhyun was a main dancer material.

As for the people talking on Lay in here ✨I hope they have kept in connect with all his Solo stuff he has been doing in China✨

Im a d.o bias, D.O is very charismatic when dancing but sometimes I feel like he's slacking off or being lazy😂 or maybe he's just tired from shooting, so yeah I agree with this ranking🤣👏

surely he’s tired but arent they all? i mean the others too have solos project and stuff heheh, maybe he just being lazy in purpose and prefer to show his vocals more i think

D.O. don't spend that much time with dance practice, like other main vocalists he also Doesn't try to level up his vocal, he is focused on his acting Career more,otherwise he has good groovs

I honestly agree with this ranking, I do think Xiumin has shown more consistency in his technique, and overall I would say his is better than Baekhyun, but I do prefer watching Baekhyun dance. But as soon as I saw Kai ranked 2nd, I immediately ran to the comments

I think part of the reason why some members 'under dance' is because they're trying to not tire themselves too much since some of them (main vocals and lead) are responsible for majority of the lines. That's only my opinion though.

My thoughts too it must be very difficult to belt out amazing vocals while performing complex choreography but they do a fantastic job nonetheless 🙂💜

i remember seeing an article from a choreographer (i think) around the time of their first comebacks saying D.O was one of the best dancers (beside the main dances) but he was just lazy and didn't do else that they didnt instruct him to do, i guess he just plateaued

I don't think he got lazy. I am a newer fan so you can take it with a grain of salt. But I think his sasaeng encounter really affected him negatively. When I watch the older exo performance he had really good facial expression and everything. But now he was the same cold look (I like it though it doesn't bother me). He also has been doing more acting project which take a lot more energy and some of his projects were overlapping with exo cbs. He wouldn't be able to go all out when he has to do film rehearsals too. I agree he could have been better dancer but I think he more or so spilt his focus into two things and was focusing heavier on acting because he was a rookie but now he is more solid in the acting industry so it may change.

@@cigimon4 Yeah. I am D.O. utl biased and my other biases also have similar traits were they don't like to exercise and sweat and have abs. I am happy he is comfortable with himself. In one concert, his tummy looked a bit pregnant and he was flaunting it while the others were ranking their abs lol 😆

I think he just doesn't have much interest in dancing and would rather improve his singing and acting. He dances because he has to, but it's not his focus. Notice his solo stuff is just vocals, like chen

Yay all my biases are top 10!!! XD Okok joking aside i definitely agree with this ranking. Also i like that you state they have strengths and weaknesses in different areas despite their ranking too. For example yes Lay is a better dancer but to me Chanyeol's expressions and vibe is better during stages so he still stands out. This is a great video and you keep it quick and simple without it being too long. Great job.

I immediately thought that I have never been bias wrecked that hard in my life as a K-pop stan, and that's when Call Me Baby came out and Lay didn't come to play.

I know that it might be hard since many of them havent been involved in kpop dancing for a long time, but I’m extremely curious to see what an ot12 ranking would look like; loved the video!

Is it just me? I firmly believe that Baekhyun and Xiumin are interchangeable but I prefer Baekhyun's dancing more :D. Kai is a better performer while Lay is a better dancer. Just like Twice, Jihyo is an overall better performer while Momo is the best dancer.
