Excuse me, MISS...those are not your children 😂

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

I love how you respectfully allow your children to decide how much they want to be involved with the channel. There are so many 'van parents' and the like using their children as stage props and filming everything including punishments and humiliation, with no regard for the needs of the child they're tormenting.

Quail (particularly coturnix) are so much fun to hatch but the moment they hatch, they try to unalive themselves for the rest of their days. It’s fun watching them as babies sleep. They do a lot of corpse pose to scare you. 😅

Hi, love all your post. My husband has raised chickens all his life but in Puerto Rico. I showed him the eggs and he told me that the rooster is the one in charge of selecting the nest. If you have more hens then roosters he will get confused and put more than one hen in each nest. If you observe the rooster, he will be next to the hen when she is about to lay her egg and he will sound “Chook, chook, chook”, the same way he does when calling a hen for treats, but this time the sound will be louder, the hen will know the nest has been selected. Yes you can divide the eggs, can be quail eggs also, the hens will sit on the eggs when her body temperature is 105° F to 106° F.

Biggest advice I can give for hatching quail is to be careful with the hen you use! I know they're very small and fragile so having a big mama is usually risky. If you want to try I'd suggest hatching quail out with your smallest hen since their chicks would be the closest to that size

  • @Vocalinds

I think that the silkie is too big for quail babies. It would also be safer and momma and babies were moved out from the coop before hatching, for their protection.

I def think you should take advantage of a broody hen! If she really is broody hatch some eggs! She’ll keep them warm enough in your cooler temps. And when babies hatch it’s super easy to put a mamma hen in a big tote with babies and heat lamp and feed and water. I do it all the time (not so much here in winter the northern climate) but I’d def do it in AZ!!

  • @theducklinghomesteadandgar6639

I think Chickens hatched soon would likely do well through winter, so long as they have an easy way to follow Mama and cannot get out of the yard at all, and would be good to have a semi covered area for her to cuddle them that the chicks can enter and exit with NO troubles, but I think quail would really struggle if you want the hen to raise them, because they are so tiny, UNLESS you set up a brooder for when they hatch so you'll be able to keep them plenty warm enough. IF you plan on a brooder for whatever kind of chicks it will definitely need to be one with very little natural draft moving through it so the babies don't get a chill or too cold.
