It is more of researching and understanding and accepting Toyota makes the most reliable and highest resale value vehicles in the world They also don’t pander to politicians and often do press conference against US politicians regulating the auto industry. They also don’t do “our trucks are super gay” commercial like ford or donate to democrats who ruin the entire country. Toyota actually donates to republicans. I know many of them are useles. Tim, you are a straight shooter. When I opened this video and I saw your guest, I said "If he doesn't bring up some of the nagging issues this may be my last days as a subscriber". You didn't disappoint. I know you didn't want to go through the every item and seem unappreciative, but I was hoping you would have mentioned the lack tow hooks and the fact that the truck was supposed to be class leading, but fell a bit short. I know they were proud of the leather but fix what is broken first. I understand it takes time to redesign and produce the seat cover, but it is a plastic part! How many years does it take? The old Toyota wouldn't have worried about wasting the already produced parts if they are defective.

    My biggest complaint about my 22 Tundra 1794 are the lack of truck mirrors. My rule of thumb is if the truck comes with a trailer receiver it should have Tow Mirrors automatically.. the infotainment system should come with live radar since people in the United States love to drive and all sorts of weather... my 2013 King Ranch and my 2017 Nissan Titan all had live radar , so why wouldn't a 2022 Tundra not have that capability in their system.. I have never had so many scratches on the paint job as I do this new Toyota.... it seems like they sprayed it on and then wiped most of it off... but I do love the power and performance and the dependability of a Toyota vehicle

    Tim……. I really appreciate the interview with Jay Sackett. A saw TFL Truck interview Mike Speer (spelling) who lead the design of this newer Toyota truck. I’ve been so impressed with the design team. These men are pickup truck drivers and I’ve been an admirer of Toyota since the 1970’s! I’ve been driving ford’s since 2005, before that it wash Chevy trucks. I personally believe you really can’t loose with any of the manufacturers today. All of the trucks are amazing in comparison to those of the 80’s and 90’s…. I’m seriously considering a Toyota in 2024/2025 just because of the management team. I think they are going to solve a lot of the issues and truly make the Tundra more appealing to folks like myself.

And also asked him about the cell phone charger and if he thinks it is a good design. But I know politics is involved as well. You can't come on to strong or a big X will be on your back from Toyota. At the same time, the Engineer knows it is being recorded, so he has to walk a fine line as well. He still needs his job at end of day and can't have his boss hear him say what might really be on his mind. The engineer says he sees the comments, but I still think they go thru life with rose colored glasses on. Putting their eye on all the issues you know of first hand would go a long way to remove their rose colored glasses for a short time and actually see what is wrong with these trucks.

I would have bought a new Tundra if it were not for the reviews showing all the things that are worse with it. I'm genuinely interested in hearing his take on why some of the changes were made. My biggest gripes are: turning radius, rear bumper, back seat of double cab unusable, no tow hooks, infotainment system bugs, remote start shutting off, general fit and finish is inferior, less headroom, front bumper isn't a bumper and you have to cut plastic to even add an aftermarket bumper. There are some improvements, but if he does a live stream I will share those at that point. 😉

    I have a 22 Tundra 1794 and one of my biggest complaints is the car mirrors that come on the truck.. my rule of thumb is if the truck has a trailer receiver it should come with Tow Mirrors automatically..... my other pet peeve is the lack of live radar in the infotainment Center... my 2013 King Ranch Had live radar , my 2017 Titan had live radar.... why in the world wouldn't the top of the line Toyota have live radar ....the people in the United States have to drive in all kinds of weather.... my wife has her own complaint , why doesn't the vanity mirror have two lights instead of just one.... my paint job has more scratches on a brand new vehicle than I've ever had it appears that they sprayed the paint on and then wiped most of it off.... put on a good notice I love the power and the performance and the dependability of a Toyota.... just dot your i's and cross your t's ,if you're making a luxury vehicle..

    I would love to hear a frank conversation about the ever increasing prices. What innovation and effort is going into that arena...reducing the price without reducing the quality? Is it like 9% - 15% labor costs? So, how do simple parts increase so much in price? The spray in bed liner is up $100. Same material? Same labor time? Why the substantial hike? Why can't the "regular" leather interiors be all leather with thicker leather? Why only allow this with a "boutique branding" and sizzling high price?

  • @Pickuptrucktalk

    Pricing is not an engineering issue. Marketing says build a nicer truck at a higher price point, so that’s what engineering does. Remember they wouldn’t build these kinds of trucks nor price them that way if they couldn’t sell them.

  • @ksorsomeplace

    @ksorsomeplace

    @@Pickuptrucktalk It is to a degree. Engineering is a cost that must be factored in to the price that needs to be obtained to maintain a going concern. But, to your point, yes people are buying these pickups, but a run of 1,500 is hardly anything in a country with approximately 330 million and then broken out by buying age and other demographic items that would be most indicative for a possible buyer. I doubt it takes much effort to move 1,500 vehicles for the number of buyers in the target demographic. So, here we have a collaboration between Toyota and Saddleback Leather. Looks nice. But, as is the usual situation, there is no pricing. To the engineering standpoint, did anything get changed underneath the leather? The main difference is the thickness of the leather (due to its being full grain leather) and the extra details. From your comments, the difference in leather then is enough for you to up your comfort rating. It's hard not to consider the price and engineering separately. I'm interested in real cost and effort vs. what marketing feels the target buying demographic will pay. It's frustrating to hear about something interesting only to find out it is very limited, other aspects are also limited, and of course, no price (not your fault, I just wish that complete information would be available at the time of debut). I'd like to get some choice, especially considering the current pricing. So, I see the point and am surprised that the product sells so well (my opinion).
