Directed and produced by Ilse and Femke Van Velzen, "Fighting the Silence" tells the story of ordinary Congolese women and men that struggle to change their society, a society that prefers to blame victims of rape rather than prosecute the rapists.
Rape survivors and their families speak out openly about the suffering they endured because their culture considers women second class citizens and rape a taboo. They give a voice to thousands of other survivors and their families who have chosen to hide their grief and remain silent for fear of being rejected by their families and community.
Girls and women survivors tell of the brutality they experienced. Married couples openly talk about the pain they endure. Husbands talk about the pressures that led them to abandon their wives and why they agreed to take them back. A father explains why he has given up on his daughter's future and how he wishes he could afford to take her rapist to court. Soldiers and policemen share their shocking views about why rape continues to flourish.

It's sickening that a sexual assault victim is treated like a suspect than a victim for many years society has been doing this it needs to stop this is a big reason why many sexual assault victims don't report their rape

It sickens me that people especially the men kick their wives out because they say they can't share their wives with the army these women did not lay down willingly with them and they did not share their wives it was taken from them but yet they can turn around and sleep with women who sell their body to him and the army taken these women by force and we all know men want us to take them back after willingly sleeping around smh

This sad stories shows men are very weak than women. They can have all the muscles etc . Weak as weak can be 😢 Strong man will embrace anf support his wife. Different ways in showing support, rather kick them out or disown.

Talking is not going to stop this problem from happening. It's only going to cause more problems for the victims. What can be done about it that would really work? This happens in every society - it's a human problem. Also, the women were vulnerable because the men were LOCKED DOWN during their latest "war" (on the people). Think about that, please.

America doesn't even care about their own people. They truly don't even care about the troops sent to different countries. The only thing America cares about is money. Greed. Control. And straight white men who just love "the lord" to mask their misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia..the list goes on. America won't help this country or the precious, beautiful women being horrifically violated. Sadly, America treats black people like shit. Just like they treat everyone else who isn't white, straight, and Christian. Someone needs to come and save us, but no one is coming. It's time to take matters into our own hands and live with love, compassion, and Divine humanity in our hearts for others and for ourselves. End rant.

America has no place to tell any country what to do. We have the same issue here. We have children marriage legal in many states. Sex traffic victim's are punished more than the people who did it. What are the troop gonna do yell and shoot. They have the same issue in the military. They have to fix it themselves just like we have to.
