Exclusive: Congo President Tshisekedi accuses Apple of using smuggled minerals | DW News

Tech giant Apple is facing serious accusations by the Democratic Republic of Congo over its procurement of minerals, which are reported to have been smuggled from the DRC into Rwanda. Legal representatives of the country country query the use of the so-called 3T minerals, which are reported to have been smuggled from the DRC's war-torn east and have issued a stern warning to Apple, threatening possible legal repercussions.

    In February 2024 European Union has signed with rwanda a big contract for 3-T minerals, while rwanda does not have any in its soil ! USA and European Union are the one using rwanda. The DRC government itself via Nicolas Kazadi announced in 2023 that "close to $1bn in gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten" were stolen from the country by Rwanda... How much do you think your government earns annually? Do you really need me to teach you about your own country? DRC is +10 times more populated than Rwanda, ~100 times bigger in size, and over 10 000 times in mineral resources. Your country is bigger and stronger than you think. Your politics make it sound weak.

    When minerals are mined in DRC's by international firms, from Europe, China, North America, they are transported to industrial countries such as China, some use air transport, others road transport to reach Indian Ocean. That where Rwanda comes in as a transit to the eastern ports of Africa. Rwanda is not responsible of how Minerals are mined in DRC. as DRC is a sovereign state with land borders and it's order. When minerals are received in Rwanda, they are recorded and taxed accordingly. scapegoating Rwanda as the problem is just a coward move. When you have a 150+ armed groups, where most of them were result of defence and protection of their community because the government can't pick up the responsibilities, but somehow you single out one group because they speak kinyarwanda as the main problem, it is just evading your responsibilities. How comes in Kinshasa people have Lamborghini and in Eastern DRC people don't have basics needs? poor leadership will be the end of Africa.
