I have worked in two large corporates and as many others will have experienced, there are frightening parallels with my own recollections of some of the worst standard practices of them, with their closing ranks when threatened, bullying, isolating individuals they see as a potential threat. Even if govt could do that, her lawyer will have already protected her cash and assets. If she has broken actual laws the Police and CPS will force her into a trial, and she might be jailed. For me, I’d prefer she was heavily fined. Jails are full, 3 yrs of community service would be better. She’s a corporate player, she’d be comfortable in jail.

In spite of her incompetence she got outrageous salary and bonuses and must return ALL of that towards paying for her jail term. and same for all the others who'll be jailed and what's left over must go towards the compensations. As for protecting her cash, if it can't be got at, she will have to work her jail term and work after to pay back her debts and ditto the rest of them. Jail shouldn't be lazy fun.

She should be in prison, the miscarriage of justice occurred because of she suppressed evidence of a problem with Horizon despite the warnings

People like Vennells normally befriend senior managers, kiss their arses and show they are good at their jobs so the managers then see and think they have a friend and thats where it goes wrong being friends with your subordinates leads to favouritism and loyalty so these people get promotions because of that whilst more competent employees who don't arse kiss their way up get overlooked. I've seen it many times poisonous and incompetent people befriend the managers for an easy time and utter cunts to their colleagues then they get promoted and you see their true colours

Remote access is entirely normal in this kind of system. You couldn't possibly manage a network of 11,500 branches without it. All banks and retailers have the same capability. The problem is that the remote access was done using the sub postmaster's account and there was no audit trail of the access.

What does that have to do with this inquiry? They split from the PO in 2012 and were privatised in 2013. Have you noticed how much other things have gone up since Poirot was knocking about? You know he's made up right?

I loved the post-office and the large salary i was on........Ive just covered my own back

LOL. 'We were all chuffed with the quality of the audit that highlighted a litany of problem, some of which extremely severe'. Fix problems? Nah. Acknowledge there are problems which support people's assertions they're not crooks? Nah. Cover everything up to "protect the institution"? Absolutely, 💯 The irritating thing is, this is pretty much the case for most big businesses these days, rotten to core, with most revenue going to PR & Marketing to keep it all looking perfect.

I don’t recall I don’t recall? What did she get paid for to be CEO , I bet she can recall what she has in her bank accounts.

The English government will never prosecute her. That she has to squirm in public will be deemed sufficient punishment.

Ok. The computer was removing payments that the post masters were depositing into Royal Mail Accounts. SO... Where has that money gone. Who took it ???? Were they taking it and then sharing it out ? FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Can one of the KC’s please ask her what the job of a CEO is, and remind her of Harry Truman’s ‘The Buck Stops Here’ ? If she was going to be as amenable as she claims she was to any suggestion from anywhere then she should never have taken the job. But she says she DID ask questions. Where are they, then ? Where are the e-mails with those questions in them ?

@thetruth9210 I’m a lawyer. The lawyers are doing very well. Especially Mr Beer, who is brilliant, but others too. It’s an inquiry, where the main goal is to get her evidence out, whether it’s lies or truth, to get her to answer questions & give her version. It might look like they’re not pinning her down, but it’s just that they stop when she has given her position & held it after being confronted with the opposing facts/arguments. They don’t need to call her a liar every time. Later the inquiry judge will assess her evidence & credibility against all the other evidence & documents.

@@meganm1074Yes, I agree the lawyers are doing very well, particularly Jason Beer and Sir Edward Henry. And I understand the situation they are in - it’s a public enquiry, not a court of law. What I was getting at was that she was the CEO of the Post Office, which made her responsible whether she likes it or not. I saw elsewhere that she said that,even as CEO, she wasn’t responsible for everything that happened underneath her, or words to that effect. If that were true, it would merely support her position (which, as far as I can see, every senior member of the Post Office who has been questioned has adopted) that everything that went wrong was someone else’s fault, because she didn’t know or didn’t have the necessary expertise or hadn’t been told. It was her job to know, and also to ask some pointed questions rather than just fling out a few ineffectual ones and then go along with whatever she was told. Before retirement I worked for some very senior people in the police service, and none of them would have accepted some of the things she accepted without asking some very serious questions. I wasn’t seriously suggesting the KC’s should ask her what she thought the job of a CEO was, but I would have been very interested to hear just what she thinks it is !

This woman has selective memory problems, think she has been talking to sturgeon.

The scope of the use of remote access to move money out of post office accounts is irrelevant, there should be no access to accounts by remote access.

Post Office was not ever privatised. It was in all intense and purposes a government department, funded entirely by the taxpayer.

Quite the opposite. It wasn’t privatised and so didn’t enjoy the usual scrutinisation that private companies do at shareholder’s meetings etc

Trying to take zero accountability when everyone knows it’s standard practice that the CEO is accountable. The CEO knows what is going on and takes the biggest pay cheque home.

No- not competent enough!

Having now seen her in action and with 16 years of being a teacher (from industry) dealing with inner city kids whose very instinct and natural reaction was to lie, blame every one else but themselves, pause so they can think of an excuse, blink continuously and most of all truly believe they have done nothing wrong. A classic example, I once caught a girl of 15 in front of a class I was about to teach, writing on my white board something extremely rude about me, who after watching her do it, on turning around on seeing me, drop the felt tip and without thinking said "It wasn't me!" The DEA and Teacher Training Colleges should use these video of Vennells to teach new teachers how to spot the classic signs of a LIAR and a person in total denial they did any wrong. The thing is as with psychopaths which I believe in truth she really is, their total inability even with a wealth of examples, an avalanche of evidence, public's reaction to her when she leaves to go home and possibly she reads all the comments in the KZreads STILL believes she did nothing wrong and was not her fault.

I have a question, which may seem a bit dim, if so i apologise. The post office accounts could be accessed directly by Fujitsu, the money, has anyone ever checked to see if Fujitsu staff were filtering this money? This may go some way to explain where it all went.

I don’t think money actually went missing? It was the bugs/remote access that made it appear that money was missing.

You have a misunderstanding. We are not talking about bank accounts, we are talking about a system which says "you have £x in the safe". Fujitsu can only change how much money the system thinks is in the safe. They cannot transfer money to other places as it is physical cash.

Funny how she can remember some things vividly from 10 or more years ago, but finds it difficult to remember or recall 🙄 important relevant things that are key to getting down to who is to blame for this outrageous, scandalous and damm right criminal actions by all involved.

They are all liars and all played their part in what happened toball those innocent people, then when they came to understand they were all wrong, they attempted to hid it all......,.all involved should be charged and end up in court, just as they did to all the innocent postmasters they did that to.

No one in authority in this case will go to prison.

There's always hope mate

At the end of the day, she will be genuinely sorry, but she will return to her very-pleasant-lifestyle and the ex PO postmasters will have to deal with the negative long term consequenses. It's how the system is set up - the wealthier you are, the better protected you are. It's the core of toryism.

If this is the standard of the rest of the clergy then god help us.

Anything to deflect from her criminal activity. Let's hope justice prevails. She never gave any consideration to the postmasters - they were all guilty.

How has collective amnesia and blatant denial of facts & documented evidence become the default defence of people in high office? Vennells, Johnson, Sunak, Hancock, etc are a national disgrace and have brought shame on this country. What a truly awful example to our children growing up, to show that financial gain can be procured not through honest hard labour, but by being a liar, corrupt and Incompetent.

Prison must await.
