    Hey dr amiya does chronic stress accelerate androgenetic in people who already have androgenetic alopecia, cause androgenetic alopecia is about dht and dht sensitivity, and there are studies showing that high cortisol levels overtime can trigger higher dht sensitivity thus accelerating androgenetic alopecia ?

    Hey dr amiya prasad , i have male pattern baldness , and i also suffered from telogen effluvium, i have heard that telogen effluvium will accelerate my mpb . I have read that miniaturization in mpb is a process where hairs grow back thinner with each cycle and i have read that hairs don’t get miniaturized while they are still in the anagen growing phase and they are protected meanwhile, and they get miniaturized as soon as they transition from telogen to early anagen ,so that being said , telogen effluvium will cause the growing hairs that are not getting miniaturized yet due to them still being in the anagen phase , even hairs that are still in early anagen which lasts 2-7 years to transition prematurely into telogen , so that being said wouldn’t that premature transition into telogen phase speed up the process of that miniaturization,since it shortcut that anagen phase ,by pushing it into telogen early ,causing it to start a new cycle and miniaturization happens during every new cycle ,so by that telogen effluvium triggered a new cycle so it potentially triggered a premature miniaturization process? By my question i don’t mean that telogen effluvium can make the potential of mpb worsen since the limit is genetically coded , what i mean by my question giving what i said , is that can telogen effluvium accelerate reaching that male pattern baldness limit earlier than if i never had dealt with telogen effluvium on top of my existing mpb? Like for example increasing dht causes an acceleration of reaching the mpb limit , and decreasing dht slows down reaching the mpb limit and this is in combination with genetics , and i know that mpb is both about hair cycles and dht sensitivity so would limiting the shedding also slow down the time reaching that mpb potential? So would someone who already is dealing with mpb who has reoccurring telogen effluvium Reach his mpb potential faster than he would have if he never had telogen effluvium? Because tbh doctor i refuse to believe that there are things that can slow down hairloss , but there aren’t factors than can accelerate it. To sum it up, will my androgenetic alopecia affected hair grow back after telogen effluvium where it should have been normally or will it grow back thinner than it would if i never had te on top of my mpb.

    Hi @Yeahitsme2, I've been getting this question so much lately, and people asking don't seem to like my answer. Telogen effluvium, and genetic pattern hair loss are different conditions, with different causes. If you have both at the same time, telogen effluvium does not accelerate genetic pattern hair loss. Telogen effluvium is a temporary condition that resolves on its own, while genetic pattern hair loss is a genetic condition that needs active management to treat. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Doctor can a general anesthesia start alopecia? I had a tonsils removal 22 years ago. One day after surgery I started losing insane amounts of hairs. And it kept going on and never stopped. To this day. Together with what kind of feels like a scalp inflammation. When I touch my hair, I can feel the roots hurt. But the strange thing is, it was/is only in the area where male pattern baldness occurs. Hairs on the sides and back didnt fall out.

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    11 ай бұрын

    Hi @PrepaidKreditkarte81, While the stress on the body due to general anesthesia can cause temporary hair shedding, it can't trigger long-term alopecia. Male pattern hair loss is a genetic condition, which can occur concurrently with a hair shedding condition, which is more likely the case, especially since genetically resistant hairs at the back and sides are unaffected. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @fessehag1507, Shock loss is possible, but it's hard to tell without seeing your scalp, or knowing details of your transplant surgery. There is also the possibility of collateral loss, which is hair grafts placed too close to native hair, thereby damaging native hair follicles permanently with the sharp implanter. The gap could also be your surgeon avoiding collateral loss, so you will have to ask them. Hi @SBSunshine, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hair falling out in clumps is usually temporary hair shedding due to extreme stress, like losing your mother. This is a temporary hair shedding condition that doesn't require medical treatment for shed hair to grow back. However, it possible to have hair thinning due to genetic pattern hair loss at the same time. A scalp examination is needed to determine the cause of your hair thinning. Hey Dr Amiya, i hope your doing amazing, i have a question,when someone has mpb or androgenetic alopecia, miniaturization occurs , and miniaturization is shrinkage of the hair follicles which happens when a new hair grows out, so the longer the hair grows and stays in anagen the slower the progression of androgenetic alopecia is so that being said , will telogen effluvium which causes the hair to prematurely fall and prematurely renew itself if happens to someone who is already dealing with male pattern baldness accelerate the rate of miniaturization progression ? Also if the answer is no , then why are identical twins who have the same gene have different rates of balding due to environmental factors?

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    4 ай бұрын

    Sorry @Grigg61, someone else asked the same question about twins at around the same time as you did. First, telogen effluvium does not accelerate genetic pattern hair loss because they are separate conditions, with separate causes. Second, genetic pattern hair loss is caused by genetics, and environmental factors do not accelerate hair thinning. Identical twins are not completely identical, for example there are identical twins who seem to have the same face, but they have different hairlines (Google the Sedin twins, former pro hockey players). Identical twins do not have the exact same dominant and recessive genes, so genetic pattern hair loss can manifest differently, even in identical twins. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    hi Doctor, So I was seeing hair falling out in the shower for around 3 years but didn't pay much attention until last year. I went to dermatologist and he prescribed me finasteride 1mg and minoxidil 5%. Since I started the treatment 10 months ago I have been shedding quite a lot (or that is what i believe it is) and my hairline is receding. before starting the treatment my hair was pretty stable but now is just very thin and I am developing some bald spots, also always when showering or stroking my hair, more hairs fall (most of them have a little white ball at the end). Is it normal to keep shedding after 10 months of treatment? Should I stop or what else can I do? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    11 ай бұрын

    Hi @danielfelipenustesandrade862, Finasteride is for slowing progressive hair thinning in men, and not a drug for hair shedding. Some men can have increased hair shedding within the first 6 months of finasteride use. Minoxidil delays normal hair shedding so you appear to have more hair, but if you stop using it, or it stops working, you can have severe hair shed. It's not clear if you have hair thinning associated with male pattern hair loss since I have not examined your scalp, but bald spots aside from the crown are not associated with male pattern hair loss. If your dermatologist has not given you the exact cause of your condition, I suggest seeking a second opinion. I would have to examine your scalp to give you a proper second opinion. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @suryanshavtar, Sorry to hear about your problem. Telogen effluvium can be triggered by stress on the body from weight loss. It is not possible you didn't shed hair before this as it's normal for everyone to shed 50-100 hairs daily. Shed hair grows back, as pattern hair loss is shed hair growing back thinner, and a delay regrowth. It is possible to have hair shedding due to telogen effluvium (or normal daily hair shedding), and hair tinning due to male pattern hair loss at the same time, so you need to have a proper scalp examination for a diagnosis. If you can't see us for a diagnosis, I suggest you see a local doctor for an examination. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @ahmedhamed6323, Finasteride is a prescription medication for male pattern hair loss, so you shouldn't be taking it without a doctor's prescription. Finasteride is for slowing hair thinning due to DHT-sensitivity, not for treating hair shedding, and some users do experience increased hair shedding for up to the first 6 months of taking the drug. I suggest you stop taking finasteride immediately, and see a doctor for a proper diagnosis before taking any prescription medication. Telogen effluvium does not require medication for shed hair to grow back. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi@@ahmedhamed6323, It's likely due to telogen effluvium causing shedding, and pattern hair loss delaying regrowth of shed hair, not just telogen effluvium alone. If you have male pattern hair loss, you're going to need to keep taking finasteride to continually block DHT-formation to slow progressive hair thinning. It's not a drug you stop after 6 months as male pattern hair loss is a genetic condition that isn't cured, but managed to keep as much hair as possible, for as long as possible. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    Hi @irfan8389, With scalp hair, generally if a scalp hair follicle has not grown hair in less than 5 years, the follicle may be dormant and can still be stimulated to grow hair, but if it's over 5 years, the follicle may be dead. Scalp hair is different from body hair in that body hair does not thin due to genetic pattern hair loss, but the eyebrows can also experience hair thinning. We can thicken thinning hair in the scalp due to genetic pattern hair loss, as shown in the video, and in my other videos. If you are asking about beard hair, this is not an issue I treat in my practice. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    My hair started shedding suddenly and the hairs has a white bulb in it, is it Telogen effluvium or pattern baldness

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    10 ай бұрын

    Hi @fouadsemmache6051, Shedding 50-100 hairs a day is normal as those hairs do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when shed hair grows back thinner with every growth cycle, until it grows back very thin, then stops growing altogether. Telogen effluvium is higher than normal hair shedding caused by severe stress, but by itself it doesn't require medical treatment for shed hair to grow back, and for shedding to stabilize. The white bulb is keratin or dead skin, and not the hair follicle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @Exstogenius557, Hair transplantation is a major surgery, so you want to be in best physical, and nutritional condition as possible to recover from surgery, so it's best you are not on restricted diet at time of surgery, or during recovery. You should also keep in mind that men under 30 shouldn't have surgical hair transplants. You can refer to this video about it - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZHufpdtmY5POdso.html

    Hi@@rickmambo1769, As detailed in the video, pattern hair loss is hair growing back progressively thinner after shedding, as well as a delay in regrowth after shedding. You can use a better shampoo, and/or wash your hair daily if you're experiencing dandruff and oiliness. If you have a more advanced case where this is not working, then you should see a dermatologist for a diagnosis, and more advanced treatment as my practice focuses on treating genetic pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Can hair regrow in female possible without hair transplant

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    11 ай бұрын

    Hi @sdd7527, In female pattern hair loss, hair is progressively thins before it completely miniaturizes, and disappears. Thinning hair can be thickened, and dormant hair follicles can be stimulated for regrowth. Hair transplants are not recommended for the majority of female pattern hair loss cases because the diffuse thinning pattern means thinning hair grows closely together, so hair transplant surgery would permanently damage existing hair follicles, causing more hair loss. You can refer to these videos about how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss, how we treat it without spironolactone or minoxidil, and how it's done without hair transplant surgery: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZIucp66ylc6tZKQ.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/npaiyaxqkZitedo.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6Wlu8Z9hJzQnqw.html

    Hi @shvvety, While chikungunya can cause hair shedding, it won't lead to hair thinning. The white bulb you see is dead skin or keratin, not the follicle, and shed hair can grow back. You need to be properly diagnosed for the cause of hair thinning as it could be female pattern hair loss, or another cause like PCOS. And sir my hair getting directly thicker to almost thinner and i'm also diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency,can vitamin d deficiency cause thinner hair ?and sir I'm experiencing hair fall and thinner hair from all scalp including sides and back (donor area) Sir what can be the cause? • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    Hi, Your thinning hair is likely due to genetic pattern hair loss. Vitamin D is important for hair health, but a deficiency will not cause hair thinning. Telogen effluvium is temporary hair shedding, as explained in the video, not hair thinning. Onion juice is unnecessary as a hair loss treatment, but it wont cause hair thinning. As the name suggests, genetic pattern hair loss is caused by genetics, and it makes up 95% of all hair loss cases. Hi, Androgenetic alopecia is progressive hair thinning, not severe hair shedding. However, it is possible to have both androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium concurrently. Hair does not get thinner from telogen effluvium alone. In androgenetic alopecia, the hair at the lower part of the back of the head, and at the lower sides are genetically resistant to hair thinning, but they can shed due to telogen effluvium. I would have to examine your scalp to properly diagnose your hair loss, so this is not a diagnosis, but rather an explanation of these conditions. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi@@ProblemsolutionFinder-el7nm, The tingling sensation is not consistent with people facing hair loss, or hair thinning, so it's not a reliable indicator of hair loss. It can be anxiety, and not necessarily a symptom of hair loss. DHT-sensitivity may affect the eyebrow hair in some people where it also causes thinning, but generally body hair does not thin due to DHT-sensitivity. If you have shedding of body hair, you do need to have this diagnosed as it can be a number of causes.
