    Hi doc, I've been anxious about the cause of my hair loss. I'm 23 years old, ever since at least Sept 2020 my hair has been progressively diffuse thinning on top, but it also has majorly thinned on the sides of my head as well, so that has me confused about whether it's male pattern baldness or something else. Blood test results show I'm slightly iron deficient but I don't think that's enough to cause the aggressive, progressive hair loss I'm having.

    Hi Khalil Douis, Sorry to hear about your problem. Male pattern hair loss can manifest as diffuse hair thinning, and diffuse unpattern alopecia (DUPA) can also affect the sides of the head. We do treat DUPA on a case-by-cae basis. An examination is needed to determine what the cause of your hair loss is. Hello doc, is there a way to tell if I have genetic baldness or telogen effluvium? I’m 22 yr old male and my hair suddenly started to shed like crazy about 6-7 months ago and I did go through many stressful and tragic things in the last 2 years or so, I always had very thick and strong hair just like my dad who is over 50 years old and still has a full head of hair as well as most of other males in my family like we really have a strong hair genetically so I think its very unlikely for me to go bald but I know its not impossible

    Hi! I noticed your answering questions, I’m African with black hair, I got traction alopecia from right braids but this year after a stressful summer job, around 2 months later in November I was trying to use natural oil remedies (rosemary and castor) to regrow my hair but what happened was I got sudden burning sensation especially at the front of my hairline. I washed it off immediately. (My period did start a week later so I assumed it was hormones) but then the tingling sensations start up again once in a while. I bought folliculitis shampoo just incase but I’m unsure what exactly is the issue. I did believe it was right braids again because I did do them after my summer job and took them down when I felt the tingling by sensation

    Doc , I’m 24 now .I have hair thinning & lost more that half of my hair especially in the last 2-3 years . I had a h/o Lean PCOD when I was 14 but I underwent treatment of almost 2 years & my hormone levels was normal since then . But my Hair volume has lost since I was diagnosed with Lean PCOD . I don’t know whether it’s androgenic alopecia or telogen effluvium. I have used many Peptides for past 2 years . My hair fall has stopped but There is no much difference in my volume / thickness.Should I start minoxidil doc ?

    hey doc, male pattern balding and TE are not mutually excluisve right? if somebody has "slow" MPB and then TE hits, ofc the hairline and top of the head are getting (even) more visible, while also the rest of the scalp is affected by TE.

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    Hi Jonas Dauerbrenner, Yes, it is possible to have both male pattern hair loss, and telogen effluvium concurrently. Male pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning after shed hair grows back, a delay in regrowth after shedding, and a limited number of hair growth cycles. Telogen effluvium is severe stress-induced, higher than normal hair shedding, but it's a temporary condition, not progressive. Your hairline may look more sparse with both thinning hair, and shed hair. I also got a stress crisis this month. Im 18 and no one in my family is bald. I have thinned a little bit in the top o my head with no pattern i suppose. Your opinion?

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi @srdizzy5720, I hope you understand that proper medical opinion requires a physical examination. That said, as featured in the video, severe and rapid hair shedding is usually triggered by extreme stress, but this is a temporary condition, and shed hair grows back without medical intervention. It is possible for telogen effluvium, and male pattern hair loss (hair thinning) to happen concurrently. The genes for pattern hair loss can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it is possible that you have them from a family member you’ve never even met. An examination is needed to determine what you have. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hey doc, I'm 18. I have less density of hair since i was born and now it has become even more less. I've been losing hair for about 10 months. It all started after i got COVID-19 and started working out like lifting weights etc. I could see atleast 15-20 hair while taking a shower. I'd literally sit there crying and been taking a lot of stress lately. I really don't know the root cause of my hairfall. I don't see any pattern to come to a conclusion. My hair is thin on the front, in the middle and on the crown. My hair is oily and have a bit of dandruff too. I'm not sure if it's due to androgenic alopecia or telogen effluviam. I got my blood test done and my iron, vitamin D and b12 levels were too low. I've been taking all of these supplements for 3 months but don't see any results yet. So are there any scalp tests to find out the root cause? Plz guide me. Thank you!!

    Hi Mayur 13, It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but the hair will grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when those hairs grow back thinner after every shed, there is a delay in regrowth, and the number of regrowth cycles become more limited. You can refer to this video about it - kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3ZlytxmnbfZY5s.html You need an examination by an experienced doctor to diagnose for pattern hair loss. Hi Rodrigo Encalada, I operate to remove genetic eye bags every day in my practice without an external incision on the eyelid skin, which is a specialized technique, so results look completely natural, like you never had eye bags. Prolapsed orbital fat does not return once removed, but it is possible for new orbital fat to prolapse. However, the results of lower eyelid surgery can last decades, and in many patients the surgery does last even longer than that. You can refer to these videos about how long lower eyelid surgery lasts, why not all lower eyelid surgeries to remove eye bags are not performed the same way by different surgeons, and the best procedure for puffy under eye bags: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIuuy7GnqcLRoaw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4iIxJWylNSbZZM.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4aBw7efXcu4o6Q.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zmp_0piaqcnfqso.html

Do TE cause small amount of hair thinning in the top of the head including hair shedding, i lost some amount of volume on the top of my head while some of the hair's growing back with a thick diameter while the other's are growing having a small diameter although the rate of the hairs are entirely different is it TE or androgenetic alopecia?

    Hi @physicsnova, Telogen effluvium by itself is not a cause for hair thinning, but it is possible to have genetic pattern hair loss concurrently, causing hair thinning and delayed regrowth of shed hair. Rates of thinning vary among individuals, so it's important to have a scalp examination to assess thinning. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Jacob Smith, Sorry to hear about your problem. AGA is hair thinning, so it looks different from patches of shed hair. Tinea capitis can appear like patches of shed hair as well. It is possible to have both telogen effluvium, and genetic pattern hair loss, so microscopic scalp examination is needed to determine if you have thinning hair as well. I hope this clarifies things for you.

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    Hi Lily Blue, Telogen effluvium doesn't require medical treatment for shed hair to grow back, unless there is concurrent genetic pattern hair loss that causes hair to gradually thin, and delays regrowth of shed hair. Also, I generally only use a PRP combination treatment for treating pattern hair loss, and not just PRP alone. For chronic telogen effluvium, it is best to identify the stress trigger of hair shedding, and treat or manage the trigger. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    My hairloss started, or I noticed it, in October 2022 - clumps of hair were coming out and my overall hair when I was washing it seemed sooo thin. I had covid on 7/30/22 and blood tests in February 2023 that showed ferritin at 14 and vitamin D at 24. So the dermatologist stated I needed iron IV and 50000 IU Vitamin D3. My levels were all fine by May 2023. My hair stopped shedding by February, but my overall hair is so much less dense - my ponytail is less than 1/2 than what it was. I do not notice bald spots or really a substantial spreading of the part. I notice tons of new hairs but the front of my hair under direct light is very thin. Is this really TE and not Androgenic Alopecia? Other than my father no-one else in my family has this. I am not on any medication and I am a 49 almost 50yo female. Or does it really take this long for your hair to grow back enough to notice increased density and overall thickness? Thank you for this video!

But slowly i noticed more and more scalp getting visible through my hair. Years and years and it got worse, but so slowly. Now I'm 34. I've tried everything in those years. The dermatologist said it's TE, but it also looks like alopecia diffusa to me. How will i know the difference? Is it hormonal? 🥴

    Hi @Ele.Vation.13, As featured in the video, genetic pattern hair loss/ androgenetic alopecia is gradual and progressive hair thinning, while telogen effluvium is temporary higher than normal hair shedding. The effects of telogen effluvium alone are temporary, so if you see effects years later, it is more likely genetic pattern hair loss. A doctor experienced with hair loss treatment can give you a definitive diagnosis. Hi Chilli Milli Facts, Sorry to hear about your problem. Traumatic events, and the stress on your body from a poor diet can cause telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium usually doesn't require medical treatment, but a definitive diagnosis of the condition is needed. I would need to do a scalp examination to diagnose you properly. In the meantime, you can reduce stress, and resume a healthier diet to see if it improves the condition of your hair. I hope this helps you.

    Hi Doc! I would be SO GRATEFUL if you could share with me some advice I recently underwent a hair transplant procedure after being diagnosed with genetic alopecia, primarily based on a visual assessment by a dermatologist. I had been taking Finasteride for two years before deciding to have a Trichoscope examination. During the Trichoscope examination, the doctor's notes suggested a possible diagnosis of Telogen Effluvium (the Diagnosis seems now off, because I never noticed significant hairloss. My hairloss has always been more slow and steady). While this was a term I wasn't familiar with, I was relieved that the doctor didn't mention significant hair miniaturization, worsening hair loss, or the ineffectiveness of my medication. I must admit that at the time, I didn't give it much thought. This was my first and only Trichoscope examination, which I had never undergone before starting Finasteride treatment. About three months later, I sought a hair transplant with a different doctor. During the examination, this new doctor mentioned some miniaturization in my donor area. I then showed him the document indicating the possibility of Telogen Effluvium. The doctor explained that the miniaturization in the donor area could be due to Telogen Effluvium or the effects of DHT on some of my hair follicles. I ultimately underwent a successful hair transplant. Upon returning home, I delved into extensive research about donor areas and miniaturization. My panic set in when I discovered information about DUPA (Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia) and the recommendation that individuals with DUPA should avoid hair transplants. This revelation has left me in a state of anxiety, as I now wonder whether I might have DUPA instead of Telogen Effluvium. Strangely, I had never perceived thinning in my back hair; my primary concern had always been my receding hairline. I can't recall experiencing any noticeable excess shedding; my hair loss has consistently followed a slow and gradual progression. It's important to note that I've always had very fine, wispy, and wavy hair. Is it common for individuals with genetic alopecia to exhibit some degree of miniaturization in the donor area? Will my Hair transplant be okay? Im 37 years old. Im like a Norwood 2/3. Thank you in advance for any assistance or guidance you can provide.

    Hi @chris5897, DUPA is a rare condition, but we do treat it with our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, and without a hair transplant. It is similar to genetic pattern hair loss, but it also affects the permanent zones like the donor area, and the sides of the head. The problem with DUPA, as well as with FUE hair transplants in pattern hair loss, is that hair grafts are still prone to hair thinning. You can refer to this videos about how our treatment to thicken thinning hair can be an alternative to hair transplant surgery: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJ1qpNqol5zFg6g.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/n5V_rplxdt2ZmtY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2ec17WBd7zYdrg.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/pH2gq5dudpedaNo.html

    Hi Avani, I hope you understand that I can't make a diagnosis without examining your scalp. However, poor nutrition is not likely a cause for hair loss. Your scalp needs to be examined for hair thinning, which is 95% of cases androgenetic alopecia/ pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @jayycnation2003, Sorry to hear about your problem. As described in the video, extreme mental stress, along with physical stress such as hospitalization, and potentially medications you are on, can cause excessive hair shedding or telogen effluvium. It is possible to have telogen effluvium concurrently with genetic pattern hair loss, which is progressive hair thinning. The temporary shedding you're experiencing may have made thinning more noticeable. A scalp examination is needed to determine if your hair is thinning. Hair thinning requires medical intervention to manage, but severe hair shedding is temporary, and will grow back without medical intervention. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    7 ай бұрын

    Hi @visionarymind098, It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but the hair will grow back. Telogen effluvium is exceeding this number temporarily due to severe stress. Pattern hair loss happens when those hairs grow back thinner after every shed, there is a delay in regrowth, and the number of regrowth cycles become more limited. The white bulb is not the root or the hair follicle, but is likely dead skin, or keratin. The root or follicle is still in place in the scalp so shed hair can grow again. If you have thinning hair, and have not yet been diagnosed, you do need to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis for genetic pattern hair loss/ androgenetic alopecia. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Thanks for the explanation. Telogen effluvium is psychologically tough to go through especially for younger people. I got it around age 30 by taking Accutane. It did not stop even after a year. I finally cured it, however, by going on max strength Rogaine for men (I am female). The shedding got much worse initially (shedding all the hairs in telogen stage, as expected, but it was scary) and then the shedding totally stopped within a few months. My hair was all then crazy different lengths with the "new" hairs short. I cut it short and that was it. It did not recur to that extent, ever, but to this day I am sensitive to any drug that causes shedding, including every antidepressant I've tried.

Because i have (according to a Scan) 38.2% telogen phase and 61.8% anagen phase at the back of my head. While on my front i have 17.6% telogen and 82.4% anagen which is strange because i have indeed androgenetic alopecia. I have visibly a horseshoe pattern. But i somehow have hair loss at the back and sides of my hair as well😒. And Vitamin D was the ONLY thing i was really deficienct at 7.2 ng/ml.

    Hi @ItalMiser117, If you have androgenetic alopecia, which you likely do because of the horseshoe pattern, there may be a delay in your anagen phase starting for a certain percentage of hairs as regrowth is affected. Androgenetic alopecia is a genetic condition, and not due to nutrition or vitamin deficiencies. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    Hi, Pattern hair loss is a genetic condition hardwired into the DNA, so it can’t be completely cured or stopped. However, it can be managed to maximize hair thickness, and keep as much hair and scalp coverage as possible, for as long as possible. If you're male, active management may also include a DHT-blocker like finasteride to maximize results, and longevity of our treatment. Hi Faheem Abdusalam, Sorry to hear about your problem. Crash dieting can cause telogen effluvium as it does put stress on the body. However, it possible to have hair thinning due to pattern hair loss at the same time. I suggest you don't pull out your hair as it doing this repeatedly can permanently damage hair follicles, but the white bulb is dead skin or keratin, which is not an indicator for any hair loss condition. I suggest you have a proper scalp examination to diagnose the condition(s) you may have. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi @tajhwalker4462, While vitamin D is important for hair health and growth, hair thinning is usually caused by genetics, such as a DHT-sensitive scalp due to male genetic pattern hair loss, not nutrition. There are factors that need to be determined with an examination, such as thinning hair among thicker hairs. A proper scalp diagnosis is needed to determine if have genetic pattern hair loss. For now, it won't hurt to bring your vitamin D levels up, but I do recommend you see doctor experienced with hair loss treatment to diagnose your scalp condition. And can it be reversible after controlling the stress by medication?

  • @AmiyaPrasadMD

    @AmiyaPrasadMD

    8 ай бұрын

    Hi @mahdiyehgomar3640, Sorry to hear about your problem. As detailed in the video, severe hair shedding is most often stress induced, and progressive hair thinning is associated with androgenetic alopecia, but it is possible for both conditions to occur concurrently. The genes for androgenetic alopecia can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it is even possible that you have them from a family member you’ve never even met. Minoxidil appears to delay natural hair shedding, so if you stop using it, you can get a sudden hair shed. I would need to examine your scalp for androgenetic alopecia before recommending treatment. Hair shedding due to severe stress usually doesn't require medical treatment, as explained in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Arpita Bose, Each treatment is custom formulated based on an individual’s hair loss profile, including age, gender, age of onset of hair loss, degree of hair loss, and other medications taken; and the treatment uses your own blood to prepare the PRP, so it has to be done in one of our offices in the US. We do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Hi Parul Majumder, It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but the hair will grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when those hairs grow back thinner after every shed, there is a delay in regrowth, and the number of regrowth cycles become more limited. You need to have a proper scalp examination to determine if you have thinning hair. You can refer to this video about it - kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3ZlytxmnbfZY5s.html

    Hi mehak, Sorry to hear about what happened to you. It is more likely that you have telogen effluvium due to the mental, and physical stress of your condition, and your hospitalization. Shed hair should grow back as the stress on your body passes. If you are worried about possible androgenetic alopecia, a microscopic scalp exam can identify progressively thinning hair. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Shresth Kumar, The stress on the body from typhoid, as well as treatment can cause stress-related hair shedding (telogen effluvium). Shed hair does grow back, but it can take some time. I would have to diagnose with a physical examination if you have any concurrent hair thinning before I recommend medical treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

During one of my Math tests which was really fricking hard, i experienced the worst amount of stress in my life to the point I struggled to breath. After three months (May 2023) i noticed that my hair has become noticeably thin at top of my head. I was wondering if stress could trigger the male pattern baldness gene, and could hairloss from stress be permanent? Hi Abu Ahmed, The stress of school can cause higher than normal hair shedding called telogen effluvium, which is a temporary condition, and shed hair grows back without medical treatment. However, stress cannot trigger the gene for pattern hair loss, which can manifest regardless of stress. Genetic pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. An examination is needed to determine if you have thinning hair at the top of your scalp. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi, Sorry to hear about you problem. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have a significant hair shed. Hi Respect 😎😎, Sorry to hear about your problems. Hair shedding, and hair thinning are two separate issues, but they can occur at the same time, as explained in the video. No treatment is needed for telogen effluvium as shed hair grows back without medical intervention, but you do need to be diagnosed for pattern hair loss. If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant hair follicles, but it cannot block DHT-formation. You need to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis first, as finasteride is a prescription medication. Hi @AditiSingh-lz2og, Sorry to hear about your problem. Telogen effluvium, as discussed in the video, can occur due to an illness like typhoid fever causing stress on the body. Telogen effluvium or severe hair shedding usually occurs 3-5 months after the severe stress event. However, telogen effluvium is a temporary condition, and shed hair does grow back without medical intervention. You should still confirm with a scalp examination by an experienced doctor that you have no other concurrent causes of hair loss, such as progressive hair thinning to pattern hair loss. Hi Suryansh Avtar, The stress on your body from dieting can cause telogen effluvium (higher than normal hair shedding). However, it is possible to have telogen effluvium, and genetic pattern hair loss concurrently which can manifest as hair thinning a the crown and hairline. Shed hair grows back, even with the white bulb attached, but pattern hair loss is when it grows back thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. A physical examination is needed to properly diagnose your hair loss conditions. I hope this clarifies things for you.
