Middle-aged men, barely able to hold a rifle and then sent off to the frontline with a day's training or less. Russia's contempt for its own citizens/soldiers is unbelievable.

I am Ukrainian Jew who knew of Khodorovsky and his absolute power as the richest man in Russia a decade or longer ago. I reached the same conclusion based on: 1) Russia is most likely going to lose the war despite mobilization 2) putin has painted himself into a corner where a loss is not an option Therefore he is going to use nukes once the realization of a defeat sets in. So the world (& Russians) can sit back & watch this play out or something will need to be done preemptively.

This oligarch is perhaps only one that had balls to try to right the wrongs of past and undo times of oligarchs in first place. Companies shouldn't be centralized to few single people, it should be a company sized team effort with differing difficulty tasks on each stages. What made Russia go wrong with democracy is that, democracy is never possible if you don't have healthy private companies to give the country's budget revenue in form of taxes to build foundation for people. Every company is centralized, marketing monopolized, small companies annihilated and almost impossible to work independendly.

Putin's psychology has more in common with someone from the the 17th Century or even earlier. Think of the barbarous behaviour of armies during the 30 Years War and you have some idea of his regard for humanity. One cannot hope to understand Putin's thinking unless you can imagine that time in world history. This is what the modern world is confronting.

Fascism always involves turning back the clock and activating the inner beast to devour the human being. Putin is a mixture of Pinochet, Franco, Mussolini, with a lot of Hitler and Stalin. Fareed gave an excellent report on the influence of the pro-fascist Russian exile Ivan Ilyin on Putin.

Russia is a textbook medieval society, which is run by a mafia clan and fully supported by the Russian Orthodox church. The Russian army is a typical medieval army, whose goal is to rape, torture, castrate, kill and loot unarmed civilians and prisoners of war. And Russian society is lacking critical thinking, built on the feeling of hate towards everything and everybody who is different from them. It is very naive and dangerous to think that only Putin and his regime are the problem. The problem is much deeper than that, and to change that for the better will require generations to change and a completely different environment. But meanwhile we just need to help Ukraine strengthen their military force as much as we can, because medieval society understands only one argument - the one of power.

The worry for Europe is that the conflict doesn't go into other borders. This will be a drawn out affair. Slowly Russia will hold referendums for regions to them and they will likely build military bases in those areas, the local people are either willingly joining Russia or the Ukrainians are leaving going west. Afraid of “losing” his worthless life… so many young people have already lost theirs because of that person. Among them some real intellectuals full of ideas how to make the world better (at least on Ukrainian side). It’s simply infuriating to see all this happening to my country. Will this crazy eastern neighbor never let go?.. is russia itself not big enough?.. rhetorical question
