Hacker stopped a global computer virus epidemy

Ғылым және технология

300 000 computers all around the world were disabled due to the “Wanna Cry” virus in 2007. Who was able to help?
In May 2017, 300 000 computers all around the world were disabled.
Hospitals, transport companies, banks, mobile operators and airports were affected.
That’s because of this message, a similar one appeared instead of the desktop wallpaper.
All documents on the computer were encrypted by the “Wanna Cry” virus.
To decrypt the files, the virus demanded payment of the equivalent of $300 in bitcoins.
Wannacry uses vulnerabilities in the SMB protocol in Windows.
All versions of Windows were vulnerable.
Researcher MalwareTech found out that the WannaСry code contained a domain that was free at the time.
Virus makers did this to prevent running virus in the sandbox.
After MalwareTech registered this domain, the epidemic stopped.
MalwareTech's real name is Marcus Hutchins. He had a reason to hide, ‘cos he used to write viruses himself.
His fight against WannaCry made him famous. Marcus was invited as a guest to Las Vegas for the DEFCON hacker conference, where he was arrested.
He received probation for his previous offences, but earned respect from cybersecurity experts.

Apps should always run in a container where it must modify files there or they need permissions.

    Could you talk about honeypots?

Honeypots are basically luring the attackers to the data that can be fetched by them easily which is practically not your total or data at all.. From these you can secure your important data like luring the ants to a opened small honey jar by hiding the huge desert box from their reach.. Becoz they might think that's all they can get or even say they got enough data related to the victim... I hope it makes you clear😅😅

because it's hard to operate for ordinary people. Also it doesn't have a lot of supported software like Windows

linux will not stop this biggest misconception ever true you see LESS linux attacks and viruses but theres a reason for that several infact user base linux has no where near the user base windows and mac does hackers target the popular systems the more popular the more potential victims (this is why you also see alot of iphone bugs android has them too but more people mess about with iphones trying to find them) user expertise linux tends to have a above average user base who use there computers in a more cautious way so even if there was more viruses there less likley to get them due to them taking more precautions in how they use there systems now if linux did become the most popular os ever youd see TONNES more viruses and exploits getting written youd also see users messing up security just as much in linux because they dont know any better the bugs might get fixed faster by the community but most users dont even update there pcs so those updates would be installed rareley if ever and if the os does not notify of theese updates theyd never get installed by most users oh and a big linux virus got discovered recently so yeah linux isnt bad i enjoy it but its not the security fortress people think it is its a combination of knowledgable users not clicking links and downloading suspicious things combined with a low interest to attack linux rounded out with a somewhat reasonable way of doing security that in the wrong hands would fail instantly (giving root to everything that asks or logging in as root for example)
