Ferry travel within Greece is a very popular mode of transportation when island hopping throughout the Greek Islands. I boarded the Blue Star Ferry from Athens to Santorini then back to Athens at the end of February. This is my experience on how to get from Santorini to Athens via ferry. I will show you what the Blue Star Ferry has to offer and how to get to port. Greece is definitely beautiful and I can see the draw!
The rule of thumb for traveling to faraway islands like Crete, Rodes, Samos, Kos, and Hios is to take the late afternoon slow ships. You book a cabin, the ship starts at 7 p.m., the next morning you wake up at 6 a.m., take a shower, and by 7 a.m. you are on the port.

I highly recommend Greece and the Greek Islands! We were lucky to have gone during the time of year we did because prices were reasonable and the weather was beautiful. Not to mention we didn't have to fight the summer tourist crowds!

There are so many more Islands that I would LOVE to visit. Mykonos for sure is on the list, but I would love to explore Naxos, Paros, Rhodes, Zakynthos and Milos as well. But unfortunately, quarantine has put a damper on most travel plans these days.... 😔 Fingers crossed all of our wandering souls can hit the road soon!

Great info on the ferry options! How long is the ride by bus vs private car? I feel like after the ferry ride ill be in a rush to get checked in and free of luggage😁

The bus was maybe 30 minutes. There was only two stops during the time of year we were there.

Buses on the island are in cash. Some places such as restaurants accepted AMEX but I always travel with a visa as well just in case AMEX is not accepted.

You can’t print the tickets off at home via an email?

Printing is optional. We picked them up at the ferry office at port and used an e-ticket on our phone on the way back.
Been watching on my tv.. makes liking hard and commenting impossible! (Back on the phone now 😅) Really nice to see the practicalities of how to get set! Definitely won’t break the bank if done correctly

I am unsure. I am sorry. We purchased day off in the off season so I can not help you. But I would book in advance to ensure you have a ticket.

Can you provide any info on after the ferry docks at Piraeus? Were there many metros / buses running since it was almost midnight? Were there many taxis available ? How did you travel from the port to your next stop? I am thinking of taking the late night ferry also. Thanks!

There were buses, taxis and the metro. We walked to our hotel as we were staying close by. Our next stop after Santorini was back to Athens for the night and the next morning we went to the airport to Turkey.

Exactly what it says, fast. So there are two ferries, fast and slow. One is faster with fewer stops. Typically will cost more money. When booking you can tell the difference and is usually noted.

I am unsure what the color name is but it is one of bare minerals matte liquid lipsticks. They are my favorite! The color I believe is swank or scandal. I have both and love them.
