Everything Wrong With Godzilla (2014)

Фильм және анимация

Godzilla (2014) was a much better film than the last Godzilla we got, (1998), but it's still full of sins, beginning with its misleading title.
Next week: Something recent and something vampirey.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins do YOU want to see recounted?

+The Jedi Guy just like it was difficult for King Kong to catch those planes, which he only managed to take down three. Not mention bullets kill King Kong, and those were 1900s bullets and guns. If they had missiles then king Kong would be dead immediately. Godzilla literally feels nothing by bullets from our new advanced guns. What do you think fists and teeth are gonna do to Godzilla. Next thing you're going to tell me is that King Kong can pick up boulders. Literally all Godzilla would have to do is fall flat onto King Kong. Sure King Kong would be somewhat of a pain in the ass to kill, but what damage could King Kong possibly do to Godzilla.

“One of the fastest ships we have” is still slow as hell when youre talking about something like Godzilla. The declassified top speed of all Navy ships (all the major classes atleast; zumwalt, arleigh-burke, Ticonderoga, Nimitz, and Gerald R Ford) is 30 knots; 55kmh and 35mph. To scale with humans (with godzilla’s 394 ft incarnation in this movie, rounding up to 400ft) then Godzilla swimming at 35mph is equivalent to a human swimming .525 mph which is a tad more than a quarter of a human average speed of about 2mph… which is pathetically slow

@@Fetidaf A closer example to godzilla is a marine iguana, which is 2-3 feet long and swims about 1mph. With the increase in size, tail to body ratio difference, and water displacement required to move it is hard to go 3×133=400ft so 1x133=133mph. That being said the wiki claims 40 knots, which is a decent bit faster than the carriers.

This movie was SO BAD. For a movie about Godzilla, you would think there would be a little more Godzilla in it. And for the people that don't understand the "not enough Godzilla" complaints, IT'S A FUCKING GODZILLA MOVIE. You don't go watch, let's say a Ninja Turtles movie to watch people talk for 90 minutes and then get like 20 minutes of Ninja Turtles. Obviously the entire movie can't just be Godzilla, but there was way too much bullshit in this movie.

Obviously you didn't read my comment, because I said "Obviously the entire movie can't just be Godzilla" I was just saying that it could have been a lot better. So much of this movie was focused on the human element of the movie and it wasn't even half decent. If you're gonna focus 75% of a Godzilla movie on the human element of it, then that 75% better be damn good, and it wasn't.

Aka_ Viper Here’s the thing: If you’re gonna make a movie about giant monsters fighting, giant monsters should take up a solid amount of screen time. Let’s say I write a 30 page thesis about the history of mathematics in place of the required answers on a math exam. A paper like that would take a ton of effort, but that doesn’t mean I deserve a good grade on the exam. Now let’s say I’m a screenwriter, and I’ve just created a dramatic story about a family of environmentalists in turmoil with a few scenes where monster fights happen for my production of a movie about titanic monsters. Sure, family conflict/consequence of environmental destruction films are powerful in their own right, but people paid to see an extra-thicc lizard beat a large, three-headed thunder gecko and firebird to death with help from a overgrown mealworm. Therefore, people are right to be pissed that they only got to see a whole 12 minutes of that happening, and around 30 minutes of the same, very repetitive “humans are bad and you should feel bad” lecture. They are especially in their right to be pissed when the few solid action sequences cut away to the human characters *reacting* to the scene the audience was forced to miss out on. I’m sure the whole production team worked tirelessly over the past 5 years to make a decent family drama. I just wish they’d spent some time making a Godzilla movie where Godzilla gets to be more than a plot device to save the main humans every time they are about to be murdered to death. (And they could’ve picked literally any other monster than Rhodan as the side-antagonist. They had the budget to put Destroyah in there somewhere.)

For those complaining that Bryan cranston leaves too early, I have a theory. Notice Godzilla shows up after Cranston? Obviously for 2 reasons 1. Godzilla and Cranston showing up on screen would be too awesome and cause everyone to go blind 2. Cranston's soul took over Godzilla. He reincarnated into the dormant beast, brought it up to the surface to avenge himself and his wife on the MUTOS. Notice he's always near his family? Ford, Elizabeth Olsen, and his grand kid?! Plus, that moment Godzilla looks at Ford, that's his Dad looking through Godzilla at him. Hell Godzilla goes out of his way to save Ford blasting the female MUTO after Ford blew up her nest. Speaking of which, notice how Godzilla avoids destroying the warships? The helicopters? Hell he doesn't even retaliate when being shot at? That's a very human thing to do, that's because Cranston is in control and doesn't want to harm any innocent humans. The golden gate bridge is an accident, he clearly didn't want to have to go through it. Notice that Godzilla doesn't eat or sleep during his chase of the MUTOs? It's almost like he's OBSESSED with finding and killing them. Hmmm Who have we seen that has that obsessive nature in this movie?!?! Something that drives him to whatever means to prove the truth!? Now that the truth is revealed, it's time to exact vengeance. Speaking of which, if Cranston is Godzilla then take note on how he kills the MUTOS. By killing them the way he and his wife died. Crushed to death with the male MUTO, and then radiation on the female MUTO like his wife died from radiation poisoning. After both MUTOS are killed Godzilla passes out and then when he wakes up, Cranston's soul is gone. That's why Godzilla just peaces out and leaves. And at the very end as proof of all of this, when Godzilla is leaving San Francisco he roars differently than he does earlier in the movie. That's because Cranston is not in control anymore and therefore the cadence and sound is different for it. Notice how Godzilla appears to be a thinking, calculating, emoting creature? Because Bryan (the best) Cranston is emoting behind that face, once he's gone Godzilla returns to his animal instincts, which are (Go the F*** home and sleep off whatever we just did) But hey....that's Just a theory.

Its called a realistic take on Godzilla, they act like real animals, we are like insects to him, the monsters are meant to be seen from OUR point of view, and he's in the movie for 10 minutes. Also, pacific rim is more like a comic and unrealistic so they could not have made Jeagers. Godzilla is a fantastic movie and we're getting a trilogy with Mothra Rodan and King Ghidorah so hat else you got? I understand that you are trying to joke, but they just don't work.

I don't care that he's racking up a death toll by just walking around and I don't care about the drama it brings into people's lives. I just wanna see Godzilla fuck some shit up.

God the Japanese will just keep hating on America for never coming out with a good Godzilla movie. This movie had potential but the lack of actual Godzilla, TONS of clichés and stupid coincidences, and mediocre acting destroyed the movie. Not to mention the waste of the Bryan Cranston, the only source of good acting in this movie. It was also a waste of Ken Watanabe. I didn't want a two hour long brawl between Godzilla and whatever the fuck that thing was but damn, they should have given him little more screen time. The cutting away from the fights was incredibly annoying because it happened multiple times. I also don't appreciate how I was sold lies in the trailers. Overall I give this movie a solid 6/10.

The Room and Birdemic come to mind and that's just off the top of my head. And this is really a shit point because Cinema Sins videos are a lot longer these days than they were even a year ago. So counting sins isn't about what they can find but more about how long they want the video to be.

Actually, the top speed of a nimitz class aircraft carrier is classified. However, there are equations that allow one to get a really really good estimate of a ship's maximum hull speed. For a nimitz carrier, it comes out to 43 knots, or 50-ish mph. Naturally, this is assuming that it has the requisite engine power to do so, but we can consider this a very likely possibility.

Yeah. Most of the negative reviews were people excepting three hours of monsters fighting. People don't seem to care about the plot. Most of the older Godzilla films had Godzilla in there for 10-15 minutes. If it was just Godzilla fighting the whole time, fans would be pissed. Unless it's one of the sillier Godzilla movies, the film isn't just about Godzilla, it's about the destruction he caused.

Whenever I hear Ken Watanabe’s voice, I’m imagining Drift speaking...yknow, ‘cos he played Drift...in another movie franchise that is considered a “malfunction” as said by Bryan Cranston himself within the first twe- never mind. Also! Little did we ALL KNOW AT THAT TIME, Elizabeth Olsen would be in a series of MCU beginning at AGE OF VOLTRO- I mean Ultron...yeah. Robot puppet voice.

Always weird looking at older CinemaSins videos and hearing Jeremy speak in this subdued tone. Other than getting more comfortable with doing the VO, possibly this stems from not having had a sound booth and therefore not wanting to speak to loudly? I'm just guessing, since as a VO artist I have experience with that ^^

He is literally spitting out pure radiation. The stuff he feeds on, and needs to function properly. Also, isn't Godzilla's body radioactive from literally eating the stuff? San Francisco would now be uninhabitable.

Clorox Bleach Yeah, but still he spit out pure concetrated radiation right next to a highly populated town, and he feeds on the stuff meaning his body must be irradiated. Even he isn't radiated that pure radiation doesn't just disappear.

At least 1998's "Godzilla" still makes me laugh from time and time, and it makes me think of more amusing films. This Godzilla was 2 hrs of boring human melodrama, and 3 minutes of Godzilla. The editors seriously made a game out of glossing over the moments of highest tension (i.e. the fight scenes I dished out cash to see). I spent $18 to see a reptilian kaiju fight other giant kaiju, not to watch Aaron Taylor-Johnson's family troubles.

Two sins: 1.) When the soldier in Hawaii wipes the RADIOACTIVE sludge off the piece of metal, there is no way in fuck he wouldn't get radiation poisoning. 2.) This one's pretty small. The jets that were flying towards the MUTO in Hawaii were shown as F18 Super Hornets, but the cockpit view showed them as McDougles F35B stealth jets. Just something small if you're a jet head like me.

That's not the way it works. Other than light, radiation is not immediately detectable to human senses. You don't start coughing if you go out in the sun or get an x-ray. In this instance, we're talking about radioactive contamination, which is just dust that emits its own radiation. You wouldn't be able to detect that any more than you would the dust you are breathing in all day every day.
