Steering System:
The car steering system, or just the steering system, is the most important part of automobile vehicle steering control, responding well to the driver while driving. Steering control makes you feel safe while driving.
The car steering system in the automobile runs the vehicle in the desired direction by turning usually the front wheels. Proper steering is necessary for effective control of the vehicle throughout its speed range with safety.
The system allows a driver to use only light forces to steer a heavy car. Steering is also possible by turning the rear wheels, generally used in low-speed slow-floor vehicles for lifting and transporting heavy parts over a short distance, for example, a forklift.
The Basic Steering System
1) Camber (Wheel rake or Camber angle).
2) Caster.
3) King Pin inclination.
4)Toe-in.
5) Toe-out.
The function of the Steering System:
1. The important function of the steering system is as follows:
2. With the help of the steering system, the driver can control the vehicle however he wants
3. The steering provides stability to the vehicle on the road.
4. It minimizes tire wear and tear.
5. It prevents road shocks from reaching the driver.
6. The steering provides a self-rightening effect after taking a turn.
What is Power Steering System?
Power steering is a system that reduces the driver’s effort required for steering to turn the steering wheel. With the help of power steering, it is easier for the vehicle to turn or maneuver.
Types of Power Steering Systems:
There are generally three types of power steering systems:
1. Hydraulic Power Steering
2. Electric Power Steering
3. Electro-hydraulic Power Steering

    very informative video. although I found the visuals confusing in multiple occurrences (as in the toe explanation we have to figure out the wheels are being represented from top view instead of front, as it is very much similar to the camber explanation) and, even though there's very much information throughout the video, the isolated topics seem shallow and not much concise. Besides the constructive critics, keep up the good work, this channel has a lot to offer!!

    There are a few advantages that hydraulic/electro-hydraulic power steering which was not mentioned in the video. 1. Hydraulic power steering provides more natural feedback which makes it desirable for sports cars. This is because the electric motor in EPS significantly dampens out vibration (feedback). Hydraulic steering doesn't dampen the feedback significantly. 2. If the hydraulic steering fails, you can still turn the car where if Electric power steering fails, the car might not be steerable. 3. This is a slight disadvantage of EPS, but electric power steering can provide inconsistent/unpredictable feedback to the driver. This is especially the case in many cheaper cars where the steering would be poorly tuned. Hydraulic steering rarely has this issue since it naturally provides good feedback.

  • @Boss_Tanaka

    @Boss_Tanaka

    Жыл бұрын

    Fortunately if the EPS fails you can still steer the car. it s mandatory to comply to safety standards it would be deadly otherwise There s a planetary gear set that allows the column to disengage from the electric motor you just need more strength to steer the car. Cheap hydraulic power steering makes the car too sensitive at high speed when you need a stiffer steering column

    Some cars have exceptional steering wheel feedbacks like VW Skoda, Fiat, Renault(Dacia included), BMW(Mini included),Mercedes-Benz , Opel,Nissan, Mazda ,Honda ,Mitsubishi (old lancers and pajeros) old Suzuki cars, Subaru ,Saab,Modern Tata and Mahindra cars ,Ford ,Allfa Romeo and Lancia also . I have always heard or seen people rave about these car companies giving their cars exceptional steering feedback and overall Ride and handling balance some or other time . And then there are the usual offenders like Audi ,Hyundai ,Volvo ,Toyota and some other manufacturers whose steering feedback or ride and handling balance is always criticised or questioned by normal drivers and Auto journalists combined especially for Audi and Hyundai where everyone is screaming things like no feel or feedback and soft and soggy suspension set-up. This is just my observation many might have different opinions on it but this is what I have seen and heard in my short lifetime .

    Audi and Volvo in the same as Toyota and Hyundai? Audi has only been criticised of the numb steering feel while being really precise. Volvo has been "criticised" for a bit too firm suspension for it's premium class and the steering not being sporty, but that's not the intention either. Toyota and Hyundai though are only transportation vehicles no enjoyment there.

  • @aashutoshbhagat2677

    @aashutoshbhagat2677

    @@PalpatinesPlumber well I stand corrected there , Audi and Volvo have better steering feedback than Toyota and Hyundai cars anytime. Volvos have always been about Reliability and safety , it was never about sportiness with them . Audi with Quattro gives immense joy to drivers but front wheel drive ones have that complaint of having no feel or being numb as you said but yes the steering feedback is precise and that's something I always admire in cars you know . You need to feel and know that the steering and wheels are turning in the same direction together ❤. Precision and Accuracy is what I love in some cars you know when it comes to steering feedback. And if it has good suspension set-up then it helps our cause even more .

If we hold the steering in the straight position, the car moves to the right direction but if we try to drive the car in the straight line the car move toward left hand side. I believe the self straightening of the wheel is due to caster and not due to KPI/ SAI. That has to do with scrub radius. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @elchupacabra1666

    @elchupacabra1666

    2 жыл бұрын

    KPI with some scrub radius will also affects somewhat self-centering properties by lifting vehicle upwards when turning therefore causing vehicle to return to straight line in order to achieve minimal height. Without scrub radius KPI has no self-centering properties as well as any scrub radius with zero KPI has no self aligning torque . Caster angle has similar but opposite effect on vehicle height but its self-centering torque comes mainly from tendency of contact patch to follow the steering axis (trailing).

    I think it’s a steering system of its own as the only thing that changes is the overall geometry of the steering column. You can still attach any power steering system to both the four box system and Ackerman system independently. Hope this helps.

    This is called negative camber I think performance drivers prefer negative camber on their cars for a variety of reasons like it decreases straight-line stability, it allows you to corner with the additional speed that means increased stability when turning, decreases the relative tire wear, and also reduces the wheel vibration.

    @@Aali289 yea, I bought a EPS Computer box that fits my car. It has to b for the same model and year of the car, they resetted it and programmed it to the car n it's now running free. The EPS light is gone n I can steer it with 1 finger

    Hydraulic power steering is the best, such a shame its almost dead. Electric steering is too soft and varies sensitivity a lot and that is not ok. Is like changing ur mouse sensitivy a lot in a game.

    You steering your car like a pro untill your Honda EPS starts to fail and pull your car to the side without your input and sending you straight into the rails.

    Toe in and toe out makes no sense I thought they would call it that cause it's on the bottom of the body so I assume the wheel bottom would be the toe point and when it's out it's called toe out not toe in.

    Very poorly compiled by someone who "learned" some theory but who has little - or no - experience with the topic he has written about (using poor grammar and and then fed to a speech generator). Seems to appeal to non-native English speakers somehow, so, it was still fortunate for them to find this.

    Why is an artificial voice narrating this video? Why can't the human being who made this video do the narration? This feels really low-effort.

    Please stop using this automated voice, inflection of it's speech makes it really difficult to understand what it means. Makes easy concepts hella difficult to understand
