    I think people need to understand marriage isn't perfect, men aren't perfect, and women aren't perfect. We need to have realistic expectations. Communication, listen often and apologize if you did anything wrong. We are always learning. I agree with some things she said, but not all.

    Cheating isn't an issue in my marriage. I do admit sometimes I don't feel adored or special. However, my husband is my life partner and best friend. I know if I can't work he will keep things afloat and our son and I will be cared for. This is our only marriage and we keep the Lord in the center. We argue and get on one another nerves but we forgive and show one another grace just as much. Every day I try to show him respect so that he can show me love. Respect is everything to a man. That's marriage to me.

    To add to the topic of "what's the difference between fear and intuition", fear is temporary while intuition is consistent. Our intuition will continue to remind us what is right or wrong, while fear is here today and gone tomorrow, and ever changing. Ultimately marriage is not the prize... it is not a goal like buying a house or earning a degree. Having respect, partnership and reciprocity in a relationship is the prize. Start by loving and valuing yourself and love will find you. Being a wife is not a prize in this current cultural system. Being healthy and healed with people who value you is the prize.

    Omg this was me. I've been married twice and related to her journey😳. It's insane how many men will marry a woman because they don't want anyone else to have them , but then have no intention of doing what they need to do to keep the women happy. I no longer date potential. If they can't step up during the dating phase they get cut off lol. I'm happily single until a man can show me they know how to put in the work.

    I have noticed that a lot of men get into relationships for themselves, not for woman. A lot of men are still in a relationship because the woman hasn't left yet. A man will know he no longer loves or like you, no longer cares for you, and will he will mistreat you and he still won't leave you. If you notice carefully, a woman will do much better when she's by herself, and a man will do better when he has a woman, it's because 99% of men get in relationship for themselves, but they will never tell you that.

    I'm only 26 minutes into this video and I have to say that Rebecca has already hit the nail on the head for me, TWICE! For one, being a young black Christian woman who was raised in the faith, I consider myself really a kind and loving woman. I definitely felt like I enabled a lot of the selfish behavior while the men do literally nothing. They bring nothing and I lowered my standards with hope that things will get better. And then being a black Christian woman in the USA, I agree so much with the church part. I feel like it is often so taught that women have to endure everything that their husband puts them through, be his rock regardless of whatever, etc. I felt that a lot. I feel like so many women are doing so many things to become a wife but just like Rebecca said, not many men are doing the same.

    Can we take a moment to be honest. No not all women are idolizing marriage. No it may not be a “badge of honor” but truth be told to be “chosen” is something that most women that want to be married want to experience. Yes we love ourselves but it does have some type of effect on you to not be that women for anyone. It’s easy for women that have been married before to say marriage isn’t a goal, badge of honor, etc.

  • @Erynnmcfall

    @Erynnmcfall

    I think you missed an opportunity here. The whole point is that you don’t even know what you’re yearning for. You want to be married, to be “chosen”, to say a man has picked you but the fact is that it’s not as meaningful as we’ve been raised to believe. A lot of men marry women who are around when they’re ready to settle down, not because they’re the women they love the most. And a lot of men do this for convenience or because there’s societal pressure to do it. There’s nothing wrong with you or other women who haven’t been married or proposed to. It does not mean you haven’t been valued or loved by a man. A lot of men are just pressured into it by their partner or their parents or friends

    You should be a wife BEFORE he finds you. The scripture states …… “he who (finds) a wife…” I believe that means that you already personify all of the qualities/characteristics of a wife. A man needs to see that in you. The wedding isn’t the time to prepare to be a wife. I say that now having been married 14 years. Many women think they want to be someone’s wife. I’m convinced that most just want to be a bride.

    For me, I don't think it's as simple as idolizing marriage in itself. It's about the inherent need or desire to start a family, maintain companionship, and receive support. This and much more can be achieved (and almost guaranteed) through the confines of a family. Lastly, build your community through the family you create. This is why even after years of success (fulfilling her purpose of making all that money) and living her best life, Rebecca still got married at the end of it all. Of course, she knew better at this point and could choose better also men rarely choose women for their brains and money unless they are users or don't have their sh*t together. Get your money and books up for yourself, your security but maybe not to attract a man because in most cases they honestly won't care

    @Laurel God REALLY should be the foundation of marriage. After all, it was His idea from the beginning. Marriages built on sinking sand typically fall apart. Marriages built on God (the solid rock) typically stand even when the wind blows and the storms come. Does it make it easier? Not necessarily but it makes it doable. Is it worth it? Absolutely! 14 years married and going strong. Ladies, it’s NEVER hopeless unless you give up hope. But I will say this….You must be determined to work on yourself MORE than you attempt to work on him. Also, you are not “the good thing” The covenant of marriage is the good thing.

    As someone who also married at 19, I enjoyed this interview. I would have liked to hear Rebecca share her shortcomings and what she could have done differently. All I heard was how she was unhappy and the men were not ready, but I’m sure at 19 and 21 she was not ready either. It felt at times like she put it all on one party… it definitely takes two. As a now 48 year old you gain experience, intuition and reflection and sometimes that very religious background can make huge issues in the real world in relation to sustainability of a healthy relationship, I’d like to hear how she actually showed up in those early relationships. Clearly there was something broken within her to get married that young multiple times. No judgement, I’ve been there and I know it comes from a broken place….but you grow and mature & do better. I enjoyed this great conversation ladies.

    Breeny, this was such an amazing interview and I’m so grateful you did it. ❤️🙏🏼 I watched it from beginning to end with no pause because Rebecca was so captivating and revealed major truths about everything she talked about. First of all, marriage&kids should not be put on a pedestal. Nor anyone who is married has everything figured out whereas who isn’t,doesn’t. I also want to add a small disclaimer on healing with what she was explaining in the end..that we should always see ourselves as beautiful, lovable, whole and complete beings and there is nothing that we need to “do” to prove our worth. Even in our darkest times. I find a common trap when you’re into self development, that you’re not “good enough” now..there’s a huge level of shame and that there’s something wrong with you so you need to do “inner work” to become good enough,to be in a loving committed relationship. No. You’re always beautiful, and you do the work as part of the journey of your human evolution, not to become “good enough”. Releasing that shame, accepting myself just as I am and having gratitude for everything I’ve experienced in life was crucial and a game changer for me. ❤️ Thank you to both amazing ladies again 🙏🏼✨ Sending much love and gratitude 🤗😘

    Breeny, this was a wonderful interview, you asked some good questions girl! I really appreciate Mrs. Pope’s honesty about her experiences and the lessons she learned along the way. I was especially humbled by her revealing that month in Belize. These are the kinds of things we don’t usually hear from the elders or even the social media influencers that let us know that marriage takes WORK! To hear that it isn’t and hasn’t always been perfect and yet you can still be on track without compromising yourself is such an encouragement. Thanks and blessings to you both 🙏🏾

    Wooow what a great interview. This was jam packed with so much gems, I jotted a lot of things down. It may seem long but there was no part of this that I felt was a waste of time. Thank-you to you both for being used as a vessel to help guide us in this dating scene that is really filled with mixed messages and division. God bless you both for your honesty and wisdom 💕.

    This resonates on so many levels of my generation. The taboos needed to be broken, I was one of those you had to get married my parents are churchgoers and I’m referred to as the black sheep / prodigal child. My mother was always submissive to my father they had bad domestic scenarios. I have refused to trust and submit to men wholeheartedly when older. When Rebecca said she felt freedom from that second marriage it gave me those chills again , nothing can ever describe that feeling .

    Breeny What a great interview! I follow Mrs. RLP but this interview was the bees knees! I’m been married twice going through a very very toxic divorce after 30 years. We ar`e `going through everything one can go through in an horrible divorce, anger, violence, shame, financial ruin but I’m still divorcing this man, its been a long process in kings county Brooklyn . What a mistake, wow what a learning process. I’m healing through learning, therapy, reading, journaling and building my spiritual relationship with Christ, getting closer to my family etc. Thank you for this most informative interview. Blessing to you Ms. Lee wishing u all the very very best and continue to vet well in these streets, totally listen to your inner voice which is Christ himself, my friend. Stay still and hear him. Pray for discernment so that you make the very best decision on your man of purpose. Blessings.

You were asking all the questions that I have been wondering as I've been trying to navigate my way through my twenties as someone who grew up with the faith but is not "traditional" in many ways. I've the chemistry on camera and the conversation flowed well. I also loved the insight from the both of you. Thank you!
