I think people need to understand marriage isn't perfect, men aren't perfect, and women aren't perfect. We need to have realistic expectations. Communication, listen often and apologize if you did anything wrong. We are always learning. I agree with some things she said, but not all.

Cheating isn't an issue in my marriage. I do admit sometimes I don't feel adored or special. However, my husband is my life partner and best friend. I know if I can't work he will keep things afloat and our son and I will be cared for. This is our only marriage and we keep the Lord in the center. We argue and get on one another nerves but we forgive and show one another grace just as much. Every day I try to show him respect so that he can show me love. Respect is everything to a man. To add to the topic of "what's the difference between fear and intuition", fear is temporary while intuition is consistent. Our intuition will continue to remind us what is right or wrong, while fear is here today and gone tomorrow, and ever changing. Breeny, your content and conversations bring in so much depth that forces you to look within yourself and re-evaluate our own values. It was around this time 2 years ago that I first stumbled across Rebecca Lynn Pope - that same roommates interview and I literally did a 180. I locked off my situationship and then met my now husband of nearly a year. The majority of what she said really connected and helped to take the pressure off the process of dating. Such a blessing. '"A man has to stand on his own feet." It's what I am currently training myself to allow my partner to do. 🙇♀️🙇♀️
Ultimately marriage is not the prize... it is not a goal like buying a house or earning a degree. Having respect, partnership and reciprocity in a relationship is the prize. Start by loving and valuing yourself and love will find you. Being a wife is not a prize in this current cultural system. Being healthy and healed with people who value you is the prize.
Omg this was me. I've been married twice and related to her journey😳. It's insane how many men will marry a woman because they don't want anyone else to have them , but then have no intention of doing what they need to do to keep the women happy. I no longer date potential. If they can't step up during the dating phase they get cut off lol. I'm happily single until a man can show me they know how to put in the work.
I have noticed that a lot of men get into relationships for themselves, not for woman. A lot of men are still in a relationship because the woman hasn't left yet. A man will know he no longer loves or like you, no longer cares for you, and will he will mistreat you and he still won't leave you. If you notice carefully, a woman will do much better when she's by herself, and a man will do better when he has a woman, it's because 99% of men get in relationship for themselves, but they will never tell you that.
I know of women who didn’t want to get divorced but were advised by doctors to get divorced after being admitted into psyche wards or going through other stress related illnesses like strokes caused by stressful marriages.

This is single-handedly the best podcast episode I've ever heard on relationships/marriage. Really well done!
Boundaries will keep you single for a while , and THAT is ok!
I'm only 26 minutes into this video and I have to say that Rebecca has already hit the nail on the head for me, TWICE! For one, being a young black Christian woman who was raised in the faith, I consider myself really a kind and loving woman. I definitely felt like I enabled a lot of the selfish behavior while the men do literally nothing. They bring nothing and I lowered my standards with hope that things will get better. And then being a black Christian woman in the USA, I agree so much with the church part. I feel like it is often so taught that women have to endure everything that their husband puts them through, be his rock regardless of whatever, etc. I felt that a lot. I feel like so many women are doing so many things to become a wife but just like Rebecca said, not many men are doing the same.
I will be 25 in December but I have definitely been interested in becoming a better woman first for myself and also for my future husband. This video revealed a lot for me, thank you Breeny for bringing her on.
Yeaaaaa! You interviewed @rebeccalynnpope! She's the BOMB. 🤩🤩🤩🤩And so are you Breeny!🤩🤩🤩
Can we take a moment to be honest. No not all women are idolizing marriage. No it may not be a “badge of honor” but truth be told to be “chosen” is something that most women that want to be married want to experience. Yes we love ourselves but it does have some type of effect on you to not be that women for anyone. It’s easy for women that have been married before to say marriage isn’t a goal, badge of honor, etc.
@Erynnmcfall
Жыл бұрын
I think you missed an opportunity here. The whole point is that you don’t even know what you’re yearning for. You want to be married, to be “chosen”, to say a man has picked you but the fact is that it’s not as meaningful as we’ve been raised to believe. A lot of men marry women who are around when they’re ready to settle down, not because they’re the women they love the most. And a lot of men do this for convenience or because there’s societal pressure to do it. There’s nothing wrong with you or other women who haven’t been married or proposed to. It does not mean you haven’t been valued or loved by a man. A lot of men are just pressured into it by their partner or their parents or friends

You should be a wife BEFORE he finds you. The scripture states …… “he who (finds) a wife…” I believe that means that you already personify all of the qualities/characteristics of a wife. A man needs to see that in you. The wedding isn’t the time to prepare to be a wife. I say that now having been married 14 years. Many women think they want to be someone’s wife. I’m convinced that most just want to be a bride.

I watched this video from start to end. When I saw 2 hours I was like… this is wild. But I will never regret listening to this conversation. I am so grateful to you ladies for sharing such important wisdom with us and Breeny, for asking the questions that we all would have wanted to ask. Thank you 🙏🏾 Sincerely.
*Ditch your list!* Love it! There's a reason why the list we carry for our potential partner may mean absolutely nothing. It's influenced by our environment, our past, our upbringing, trauma, social media.. All of it. So incredibly important to go out with someone who is not your usual type. Loved this conversation! Always an inspiration for my channel x
See our girl Breeny doing big things. We are so proud of you. 😘
There is soooooo much foolishness on social media about relationships. But every now and then we get one of these. Thank you, thank you thank you for this one.
Love this! I think women need to step back and wait for the right man while we develop ourselves. We lose ourselves in wrong relationships. Peer pressure is something young people need to overcome. A good place to start is in the church.
I’m going to watch this later, I was a divorced single mum at 25. I thought I had it bad. Finally someone who was in a similar predicament to myself. Will absolutely indulge later. Just need to find me a good 3 hours of free time on this very busy day 🙃🙃🙃
For me, I don't think it's as simple as idolizing marriage in itself. It's about the inherent need or desire to start a family, maintain companionship, and receive support. This and much more can be achieved (and almost guaranteed) through the confines of a family. Lastly, build your community through the family you create. This is why even after years of success (fulfilling her purpose of making all that money) and living her best life, Rebecca still got married at the end of it all. Of course, she knew better at this point and could choose better also men rarely choose women for their brains and money unless they are users or don't have their sh*t together. Get your money and books up for yourself, your security but maybe not to attract a man because in most cases they honestly won't care

This was a valuable in depth discussion on relationships and marriage. Breeny did an excellent job on asking questions and Rebecca was definitely on point about everything. This by far added to my dating strategies on how to be a good wifey and what not to settle for in a man.
Whewwww chile I love this lady and this my first time ever hearing about her but she is full of wisdom, intelligent and so down to earth. This was EXCELLENT! I absolutely love what she said at the 1 hr 56 min mark because she is so right about that. You have to build a relationship with God and take everything to him first. He has heightened my intuition to the next level. Your intuition is literally God within you. We as women often times totally ignore our intuition and that’s where we go wrong. Wow great candid conversation for sure🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Marriages are designed to bring our wounds to the surface so we can heal.
Thank you Breeny for asking ALL of the important questions. Thank you Rebecca for leaving no questions unanswered. We needed this! ♥️
I really wish all women would understand that life is not all about men honestly🙄
People jump from relationship to relationship all the time with no intention to commit. Marriage just shows your level of commitment.
Nailed it again Breeny. I'll only add, to put God first. "Delight in him and he'll give you the desires of your heart."💕💕💞💞 "He that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing." Proverbs 18:22.

@Laurel God REALLY should be the foundation of marriage. After all, it was His idea from the beginning. Marriages built on sinking sand typically fall apart. Marriages built on God (the solid rock) typically stand even when the wind blows and the storms come. Does it make it easier? Not necessarily but it makes it doable. Is it worth it? Absolutely! 14 years married and going strong. Ladies, it’s NEVER hopeless unless you give up hope. But I will say this….You must be determined to work on yourself MORE than you attempt to work on him. Also, you are not “the good thing” The covenant of marriage is the good thing.
As someone who also married at 19, I enjoyed this interview. I would have liked to hear Rebecca share her shortcomings and what she could have done differently. All I heard was how she was unhappy and the men were not ready, but I’m sure at 19 and 21 she was not ready either. It felt at times like she put it all on one party… it definitely takes two. As a now 48 year old you gain experience, intuition and reflection and sometimes that very religious background can make huge issues in the real world in relation to sustainability of a healthy relationship, I’d like to hear how she actually showed up in those early relationships. Clearly there was something broken within her to get married that young multiple times. No judgement, I’ve been there and I know it comes from a broken place….but you grow and mature & do better. I enjoyed this great conversation ladies.

It doesn’t always take 2 for a relationship to fail. You only need 1 unhealthy person for a relationship to be unhealthy. RLP did mention some of her shortcomings. She was very young and inexperienced with choosing her first two husbands. She chose based on chemistry and pressure alone, not so much compatibility. She also said in the end that she’s a hothead.

I think she iterated that, in her 2nd marriage at least, she went to therapy, read self-help books, etc. to try to make her 10 year marriage work. So I think she was, by extension, saying she was doing the work on herself at this point but he just wasn’t matching her energy. (I’m only halfway through the video at 1:26:10, so she may or may not elaborate on this further in the video.)

I too can identify with Rebecca. She did not go into depth but she did say that she tried and did the counseling, "the talks" etc. I applaud her for getting out when she did. I got married in my early 20s and stayed for over 2 decades believing it would work, knowing from year one that it wouldn't. Excellent interview.
I agree with Rebecca when she said that men that had marriage and being a father in their hearts get married younger and aren't the single 35 year olds. I asked my bf if he wasn't with me, would he still be getting married by 30 and he said of course! I always say that the 30 year old version of my man isn't out there for me because the 30 year old version of my man is married.

Ohh this is so good 👌🏾 I am 28 just out of a 4 year relationship with an older man and questioning who I am. I had low self esteem before that relationship and it got worse in it and now I am picking up the pieces. I idolize not only marriage, but men and that’s why I put up with so much traumatizing stuff with him. My dad was a pastor too and he was also sexually abusive so I wanted nothing to do with him. I thought I wanted the complete opposite of him sis 😅 I am glad God loves me because that was a big lesson learned for me. This conversation is right on time and much needed. Thank you so much Breeny and Rebecca!

Breeny, this was such an amazing interview and I’m so grateful you did it. ❤️🙏🏼 I watched it from beginning to end with no pause because Rebecca was so captivating and revealed major truths about everything she talked about. First of all, marriage&kids should not be put on a pedestal. Nor anyone who is married has everything figured out whereas who isn’t,doesn’t. I also want to add a small disclaimer on healing with what she was explaining in the end..that we should always see ourselves as beautiful, lovable, whole and complete beings and there is nothing that we need to “do” to prove our worth. Even in our darkest times. I find a common trap when you’re into self development, that you’re not “good enough” now..there’s a huge level of shame and that there’s something wrong with you so you need to do “inner work” to become good enough,to be in a loving committed relationship. No. You’re always beautiful, and you do the work as part of the journey of your human evolution, not to become “good enough”. Releasing that shame, accepting myself just as I am and having gratitude for everything I’ve experienced in life was crucial and a game changer for me. ❤️ Thank you to both amazing ladies again 🙏🏼✨ Sending much love and gratitude 🤗😘

This resonates on so many levels of my generation. The taboos needed to be broken, I was one of those you had to get married my parents are churchgoers and I’m referred to as the black sheep / prodigal child. My mother was always submissive to my father they had bad domestic scenarios. I have refused to trust and submit to men wholeheartedly when older.
