Theory: Scooby and Shaggy are tone-deaf to hypnosis that makes sound, this is why normal hypnosis and the ghost band in mystery incorporated couldn’t control them, but since the phantosaur hypnosis was different because it relied on visuals instead of audio. This is also mentioned in that mystery incorporated where shaggy says “We can’t hear music, it’s all just sound to us”

It's not even the first time Hanna-Barbera used that plotline. They produced a (live-action) movie back in 1978 that had Kiss using supernatural powers to fight evil. I'm pretty sure that every movie since that's used that plotline is a reference to that first movie.

Just a minor clarification about "Where's my Mummy." The secret city was actually not inside the sphinx, it was in a separate location. It's still really impressive that Hotep managed to steal the Nile.

Well "stealing the Nile" probably just means "diverting enough water to keep a city going", which is basically why Los Angeles currently exists. However it is still impressive that they did such a massive project without the Egyptian government knowing (given how densely populated the area near the Sphinx is). Also the Sphinx is literally in the Cairo suburbs within viewing distance of a Pizza Hut.

it was a weird side plot in the third act. somehow, while running from Velma's mummy army, Shaggy and Scooby get swept up in a current that takes them to a "lost city" that thinks they are the god king Ascoobis and his servant Shaggenkhamen, which would take the power away from the civil engineer who had been running the city up to that point, so he decides to sacrifice Shaggy and Scooby to a giant scorpion robot which falls into the water revealing it to be a robot and exposing the civil engineer as a fraud, who had been siphoning the nile river through the sphinx, which was somehow also causing an increased number of sandstorms outside the city in addition to general drought.. Scooby and Shaggy, who have still given no indication to these people that they are in fact not a god and ancient spirit, and lead the people of the lost city into a massive battle against what they still believed to be a magical undead army numbering thousands that had turned Velma and several others to stone, equipped with little more than Daphne in a cheap Cleopatra costume and some rugs.

The Goblin King is so terrible, and it's genuinely one of my favorites. It wasn’t the first Scooby to do the whole "magic is actually real", not by a long shot, but I felt like they really did something different with it. It's the DnD campaign vibes. Something about it just atuck with me, I guess. I'd be lying if I said that sexy werewolf dude didn't awaken something in me. Goblin King was kinda hot too. 👀

I ended up watching the KISS one and my god it’s amazing. Apparently it’s full of Easter eggs and references to their music history, but I mainly noticed the Jack Kirby inspired art design of Kissteria. I mean hell, the Crimson Witch’s design is just evil Big Barda and the Destroyer is a cross between Darkseid and Galactus. Also the Destroyer is voiced by Darius Rucker and that’s probably the funniest trivia I’ve ever heard in my life.

Haven’t read it, but “satiric” implies the answer is yes. If the movie itself was trying to be satirical it took itself WAY too seriously for that, so still yes.

Plus, it at least paid homage to the original series by bringing back the original villains for the final fight scene.

I was squealing at the transformation sequence, because Paul's was straight up Sailor Venus. It couldn't have been more obvious.

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island was many young millennials' first introduction to good "darker and edgier" fanfiction. I really enjoyed it.

The witch's ghost was always my favorite. I'm an east coast kid and my parents actually have some wiccan roots, so it was interesting.

Moral of the story:take drugs with your dog to become awesome

My favorite was Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Not only was it an entertaining movie,but I think it was one of the only times where they gave the audience a reason to sympathize for the bad guys. Also that scene in the pit scared the shit out of me when i was younger.

I’m sorry but Cyber Chase was one of my favorites. Despite the villain having a petty reason to create the virus (which let’s face it a lot of Scooby Doo villains have) I still enjoyed the build up of the plot, the music, some of the action and all the nostalgia we get from former monsters and character designs. Idk that’s just me

That movie was basically all I remember from a specific time period of my childhood, so, yeah. Iconic.

The Zombie Island movie actually terrified me as a kid. I watched it when I was like 7, had the most terrifying nightmare I can remember that same night, and haven't watched it since.

Man, I *cannot* get over the Kiss guys having a whole costume change just to end up in their same costumes but a little bit glowy.

The only times I watched Reluctant Werewolf or Ghoul School were as a child when I had hallucination-level fevers, as we had both movies on VHS but my sober-child-self never wanted to touch the damn things. I was sick often, and my disease-riddled mind just needed the TV on constantly to focus on anything other than my melting brain, so I routinely scraped the bottom of my VHS barrel, but only when I was in the foggiest state of mind a child could be in. Long story short, I honestly thought that Reluctant Werewolf and Ghoul School were the same movie for ages, and literally could not tell what was real and what was a fabrication of my own fever mind. I could never remember the endings since I would pass in and out of consciousness so often, so not only did the plots for each movie routinely cross each other, but it honestly felt like they were just an infinitely small fraction of some endless, plotless wormhole of poorly-animated dimension of red shirt Shaggy. If I try and watch either one today, I will start to develop symptoms of a fever.

So, due to unfortunate circumstances I grew up almost exclusively watching old Hannah Barbera reruns and similar stuff, yet I had legitimately _completely_ forgotten that Blue Falcon was a thing. Seriously, I clearly recall watching Space Ghost and Birdman and thinking they were better than nothing. I even remember Might Man and Yukk, possibly because it's the weirdest superhero concept I've ever encountered. But Blue Falcon had just disappeared from my memory until just now.

It was barely a show. They got like 20 episodes and yet for some asinine reason he’s the character there obsessed with trying to bring back through Scooby doo. They keep giving blue falcon cameos in Scooby doo projects to try and build interest and it keeps failing but they just won’t stop.

That awkward moment when the Reluctant Werewolf is one of your preferred movies... entirely because it's the Wacky Races.

Scooby Doo and KISS deserves 10/10 for no reason other than it actually has the four current members of KISS, an is soundtracked BY KISS. Oh, and Sailor Moon references.

Can I just say, I really appreciate that you’ve picked fun factor over good writing? A movie can be really fun even if it’s absolutely ridiculous and that’s what made kids movies and shows so much fun. I like dumb cartoon movies but only when they know how to be fun dumb and I appreciate that you understand that sentiment.

How was Cyber Chase a bad movie? It was hilarious, had awesome effects and even had a solid plot.

3:34 Well it's quite simple really. Shaggy and Scooby are immune to wizard hypnosis because Shaggy is a latent wizard and Scooby is his familiar. Shaggy is hypnotized into being brave through science, which all wizards are weak to. Can't believe you don't know the Scooby-Doo Deep Lore, smh.

It's scary to think that literally any time KISS is in anything they're interdimensional Guardians. Remember that old 90s computer game KISS, Dark Carnival? I actually love the "Red shirt Shaggy" movies. They're not good but they're not god awful either. They're just a nice little trip to go on during a weekend movie watch. Very cozy.

I recently rewatched mystery incorporated(aka my childhood) and I never realized how little filler there is! It’s not that I only remember the plot based episodes, they are all plot based episodes! I hate how much I still love it!

Oh Yeah! I haven't done a Plus-Or-Minus ranking on this yet! I guess I should explain that. So positive numbers are regular ratings, and negative numbers are movies that are good for other reasons, i.e. they're so stupid they loop back around to being AMAZING or they're so bad they're funny. A Plus-Or-Minus ranking is the very rare film that is about equally enjoyable whether you watch it to genuinely enjoy it, OR if you watch it to make fun of it. Either way you will have a good time!

You could use imaginary numbers like 6*[(-1)^(1/2)] for the "it is so bad that is good" ; keeping the actual negative numbers for things that are "actually bad" and the zero for the truly boring/un-inspired stuff that is not technically wrong.

I've watched Pirates Ahoy a literal hundred times and I still only manage to remember the first 15 minutes of it.

Apparently Tim Curry was supposed to play the theme park dude from the live-action movie before he dropped out (IIRC it was because Scrappy Doo was involved in the plot and like most sane people, he hates Scrappy).

Lawrence Calablaster I loved it as a kid, but yeah it sucked. The soundtrack was great though. That song when they're fighting the pirates especially.

It goes back further than that. They did a TV movie of that idea in 1978.

this was the first Jelloapocalypse video I ever saw and it got me hooked on this channel!

The worst thing about Reluctant Werewolf was that I'd initially watched it on Cartoon Network, and I swear there was a commercial break every 5 minutes. I think they added around an hour to the run time just with commercials.

I'm surprised Zombie Island wasn't in the top three.
