My best memory of school work experience was working at Kmart. There storage area for what goes on the shop floor is the size of the store. I rode a bike around. Found a Snickers box so ate like 10. Slept somewhere. Rode more bikes. Got glared at by the manager. Had more Snickers. Good times.

As a Kmart Employee, who did Click-and-collect for a lot of the lockdown period. I can confirm that at least 10 percent of orders were some sort of coffee grinder, minimalist house decoration, or a pet bed, and half the time you can't even find it for over 10 minutes in the right section. Because there are just so many orders.

Speaking as someone who worked at Kmart 20 odd years ago I can entirely relate to this. My specialities were causing the tills to crash by scanning items to quickly, going awol collecting trollies (i.e. disappearing for half the shift to have a spliff or two) and accidentally stuffing up the Christmas lay-by's by forgetting to put down what was on each pallet in the warehouse.

Our registers were beige tanks from the year 2000 in the year 2014, constantly crashed. One time I was at the loading dock with a buddy and we were standing by the computer so I drew a dick in the dust for laughs, then I hit ctrl+up on the keyboard to flip the view upside down. We kept talking and I forgot to reset it back. Next day was truck day AND the regional manager was coming for an inspection. He sees the monitor with a dick drawn on it propped upside down with a broom so they could read it to fill out the shipment! Makes them clean every monitor in the store.

You can't just pick up a piece of glass, no, no, someone has to stand there and protect the breakage site while another team member tries to find a dustpan (we have like sixty on the shelves but you're not allowed to use one) so someone has to aimlessly wander around out the back. As a former Walmart employee, the bit about avoiding customers is spot on. Anyone with even a shred of intelligence doesn't need to ask you where things are, so the ones that do are the dumbest of the dumb, and will waste an hour of your time forcing you to look for some specialty random item they could have bought on amazon or something.
