I think the industry lingo is that real fire would be a "special effect," also known as a "practical effect," whereas digital fire would be a "visual effect." If the effect involves altering the footage after it has been shot (aka "post-production"), then it is considered "visual," I believe.

And any time the safety squint isn’t good enough, you have the good old “close your eyes, turn your head and do it by feel” technique. That’s a beauty that is, I get by just fine with it.

as a machinist, one of the shops I was at, think I only used goggles like 3 times. other than that, it was safety squint, or hide behind a machine door as I do my thing. but lpt, if you are expecting chips and lots of them, faceshields arent enough, go for full wraparound goggles and a faceshield. seems excessive but one job I had, felt the steamin hot steel chip touch my eyelid when I had regular safety glasses on.

As a pipefitter, this is also 100% true. Foreman gets pissed at you cause you didnt return his calls on a fucking weekend. Super gets pissed cause you called him at 2 AM trying to find where the fuck your supposed to go, refuses to tell you, then gets mad that you didn't show up. Theres at least 1 Journeyman on site who thinks he can do your job better despite the fact that his welds bust X-Ray every fucking time. It's great honestly, love this life and the pay if you go union is amazing for how fucked the work is sometimes.

we had some critical parts fail an x-ray test a bit ago boss just goes eh put it on the truck
Laughed so hard at the end with the "I can't hear anything." I wasn't a welder, but worked in a metal shop as a shop hand, basically. Got more hearing damage than I would've going to raves.

😂🤣😂 my hubby was a welder and fabricator. I had a heavy ass kitchen roll holder by that would kill a man, a solid steel gate that needed a team to move and everything in the house that could be was fing galvanised plus I spent pretty much every other week him in A and E with welders flash or a hole in his face from flying metal! Was brutal! 😂

Before there was the breatho and piss tests, I worked on an earthworks job. The final trim grader op was an alky who had the worst case of the ducks and drakes in the morning. He wasn't worth a c**t full of cold water as a grader op first thing in the morning, but give him his breakfast beer and he could shave a fly's pussy with that grader blade. Money well spent the boss reckoned!

Garn, I really love your work, while there may be a difference in local culture, the trades are near about the same where ever you go. I always get a good laugh at each of your videos and the guys at work really get a good laugh at them. unfortunately the boat my family was on took a wrong turn and ended up in the colony of Georgia.
