    Great short review - totally agree with you on the various distortion algorithms - I also failed to get properly usable tones compared to all my analog dirt pedals - the pitch-shifting, modulation and time-based effects here are superb though - and I really recommend the Barn3 OX9 enclosure - to get the most out of the H9.

    Can't get my head around where to place a H9 in the signal chain of an effects board. For different types of effects I would choose a different place in the signal chain. Eg if you place it as a "wildcard" in front of your delay and you want to use a reverb algorithm it would feel kind of misplaced if you want to use both effects at a time. Are there any solutions for this except a Loop-Switcher with a ordering function?

  • @treyxaviermusic

    @treyxaviermusic

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I'm not sure that there is another way, it needs to be flexible in its signal chain placement otherwise you can't really use all its different functions.

  • @MindfulProgramming

    Yes; it can operate in Pre/Post mode, which means that it is routed twice in your signal chain. Beware of ground loops. EDIT: This is accessible both through the app and directly on the pedal. Enter "System Mode" on the pedal and scroll to "Routing". Or from the app, enter "General Settings" on the "Pedal" tab, and scroll down to "Routing". It has 3 Main "Global" routing options: Normal, Pre/Post, and Wet/Dry. You can then assign the routing per patch/preset, from Wet1/Dry2 to Wet2/Dry1, etc. Per patch, you can find the routing assignment in the "More" tab (thru the app) located in the upper right corner. On the pedal, this is accessible when a preset is selected but bypassed, then hold the Left Footswitch. this enters another "Menu" mode, idk what to call it. Keep holding the Left Footswitch. You can get global input gain here, as well as per patch Output levels. Scroll to Routing, click the black encoder and assign the routing. Then release the footswitch. Just remember to save the preset after making these changes.

  • @morrisfraser7236

    Alexey Kurilo Most of the good algorithms have three FX in the chain. These are the newer algorithms. The older ones from the old pedals like the Time Factor tend just to be one FX, so not chainable. That’s why most people with one H9 tend to have two units.

  • @JV-rx3ov

    I just couldn't like this pedal even though I really wanted to. I feel like the learning curve & time to set-up/adjust presets were not worth the functions I needed it for. The Line 6 M13 was much better suited for what I needed as creating scenes for different songs with multiple effects worked much better for me. Also, the user interface was easier on the M13 as I didn't need to break out my iPad to make multiple adjustments. As always with gear YMMV.

    A lot of metal players might prefer a scooped mid sound, they never realize not everyone goes for that. Instead, the distortion is not great but it is pretty balanced. Few metal players go for balanced, but each to his own.

    I agree that the demo's delay sounds were horrible. The truth is that Eventide's TimeFactor delays, which are available for the H9, pretty much nail every delay sound, especially if you're willing to tweak. Check out the TimeFactor demos to hear the possibilities for yourself. Also check out SpaceTime, the H9 combo algorithm of delay, chorus, and reverb. And you can get good delay effects from some of the PitchFactor algos, too.
