Dumbest reach ever and anyone capable of logic knows it. NO kid is going to look at that lunchbox and think it depicts a trans person and neither would any adult seeing it without any context. The fact that Ethan had to cling to that weak ass talking point and keep using it as a diversion tactic shows how poor his understanding and research is on trans issues. He kept having to deflect and redirect the conversation because he couldn't respond to valid points that Oli made. And I'n not even conservative or anti-Ethan far from it, I'm just capable of using critical thinking unlike most of this audience.

i just think its odd tho that alot of the "sexual" references ethan was mentioning just showed that he was trying to find the smallest things that symbolize sex In Olis kids merch. I feel like Oli was right throughout most of the first parts of the debate. Ethan comparing it to an aheago face? kids dont know about that, as they shouldnt.. theres nothing about the lunchbox that symbolizes transgender. Oli never said he had a problem with little kids looking up to trans people, which is why he didnt have a problem with kids going to PG trans shows. Oli has no influence on what children choose to like, atleast no where close as how their parents do, so if a little kid wants the lunchbox i dont think it would sway a child to choose their gender. He had a point, the kids merch wasnt sexual and his whole point was that kids being exposed to trans people is okay, its just bad when theyre exposed the the sexual part of it. its as simple as if you think a little kid shouldnt get a tattoo then they shouldnt be allowed to choose such a life changing surgery

That’s what my dad told me 15 years ago; that as an autistic person I have no sense of identity and that me being trans is just a phase. It’s not. I have seen myself as a woman since I was about 8. I tried to get hormones at 22 but didn’t make it through the strict process at the time. I finally transitioned at 32, and it was the best decision of my life. Pretty sure this is an unpopular opinion amongst H3’s followers, but I’m with Oli on the minor debate. You can see in Jubilee’s Middle Ground on liberal & conservative trans that hormones are now easily accessible and the doctors don’t even find the need to have multiple screenings for one person in order to prescribe them the hormones, both people from the conservative AND liberal side agreed on that. It’s the same argument as how the left keep mentioning how easy getting a gun is in the US, on paper it seems that it has to go through a lot of screening process, but in reality it’s not as hard to get some.

it's interesting seeing people criticize Ethan for not letting Oli finish. Oli is trying to gish gallop, which to say that he's trying to spew out as much information as possible, throw out as many things as he can to construct a narrative, all kinds of faulty statistics and anecdotes lined up in a row. and the reason he's trying to do this is to 1) appear to bolster his argument despite not speaking facts 2) make it impossible for anyone to disprove all of the things he says, just by sheer volume. Ethan is stopping Oli so that he can interogate each claim on its own rather than letting them all string together to create a bogus narrative. when someone tries to gish gallop, the ONLY way you can combat their rhetoric is to break it down into digestible pieces and take on each claim on its own. this is one of the things I love about watching Ethan talk to people like this, he knows how to stop them from using petty tricks to look smarter and more informed than they are. much kudos!

I still keep waiting for the obvious question - the foundation of this entire line of inquiry: You're SO worried about minors receiving gender-affirming care due to your belief that one must not interfere with their biological hormones or anatomy prior to turning 18 or risk regretting the decision. The most important question, then, is HOW are everyone else's kids' decisions, mistakes, regrets, or choices YOUR concern?????? You're trying to enforce your beliefs on other parents & other people's children. What's it to you? Where do we draw the line to stop interfering in the medical decisions other people get to make for their own families with their own doctors?

She dressed me and my 6 year old sister in drag, like various color themed big feather hats, feather boas, and dresses that were lined with feathers. It was fun and I still love the big family photo we took. I’m now a 30 year old cis-het man who has kissed a guy and didn’t like it, accepts all genders and sexualities, is not confused about my own, and am comfortable with the idea of people minding their own business and letting people live how they want. This whole debate is so absurd. These values that the alt-right are so scared of have always existed, and I guarantee you most of the people avidly against the existence of drag, trans people, and gay people, have all been exposed to these things throughout their lives and it clearly hasn’t altered their own sexuality. They need to get the fuck over it.

Oli's grift is largely made possible by people totally failing to understand what's going on with gender, and by extension, with transgender people. They think of gender in pop-sociology terms of "an identity group, like race, religion, disability etc" which is one way to look at it, and this is how Oli can say "I thought if a man can become a woman why can't I become Korean, they put me up to it" Two things. 1. Gender identity is correlated to sexually dimorphic brain regions, they've found that transgender people have neuroanatomy typical of the opposite sex in these key regions, when they say "my gender does not match my sex" the evidence from neuroscience fully backs this claim. 2. Sex involves male and female hormones, the differences between men and women partially involve these hormones, most people who transition use these hormones to change their body to allign with their gender. So let's go back to the claim "I'm trans-korean, which is just as valid as being a trans woman", there's no difference between white brains and korean brains that could cause a white person to have "race-dysphoria" the way a trans person has gender dysphoria. I could take estrogen and my body would become more female-like, what drug could I take that'd make my body more Korean? See how ridiculous Oli's claim is when examined the right way?

@@getschwifty5271I know this is a little old, but I'll give my opinion since the op didn't answer. I imagine its in reference that children, by Oli's standards, can't consent to anything that changes their physical body. Which if true, by extension, all surgeries before 18 are done without consent. I think another ludicrous extension of this would be ear piercings, hair dye, lifesaving surgeries for those born intersex, r-worded little girls can't get abortions, Jewish people should be persecuted for doing circumcisions, even girls taking birth control would be considered wrong. Its an endless, stupid rabbit hole. Personally, I think at 18 we should have the right to do whatever we want with our bodies. If we're old enough to be drafted into the military and killed in combat, we're old enough to get some breasts or get rid of them. I think at 13 A child should be able to choose to go on hormone blockers, because its not permanent. You can stop them at any time and resume the puberty process. I don't advocate for gender-affirming surgeries or hormones before 18 because that is an awfully big commitment and I think our hormones in our teens are already out of whack and can make us do some regrettable things. I had a 'phase', for lack of a better term, of thinking I might be trans male as a teen, but I have since realized I'm just a wicked tomboy who likes girls. I'm glad I didn't have the opportunity to make huge and regretted decisions like that.

“I don’t think children should be exposed to political ideologies” as a Mexican-Guatemalan American, i have been exposed to politics since a child because it was going against me, my family, friends, and my ethnic community. Children being exposed to acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community will not harm them but teach them acceptance. Also calling support for and pride of the LGBTQ+ community “political ideologies” is so…gross. It is not a political thing, and it is not a way to earn public favor for hating or supporting us. we are not pawns to be used and debated about.

Well said! Not to mention there are parents, particularly overly religious ones and/or over political ones, who force their kids to follow the parents’ views and religions while absolutely refusing to allow kids to learn about other religions and political issues. How is that not exposing children to political ideologies??!! Seriously 😑

I obviously don't agree with Olie but the lunchbox thing was silly. Olie doesn't really have a full understanding of his own opinions, I think he just feels uncomfortable with sexual content being shown and marketed to children for immense profits while actual research into mental health and gender studies aren't being funded nearly enough. I think he's more scared and overreacting. Obviously we all don't want kids to attend the kind of drag shows that are hypersexual when there are shows appropriate for children.

@@easyandy1337 I think it helps show how silly Ollie’s opinion can be when taken to the extreme that he does. For instance, when saying that he can’t determine whether the drag queen reading a book to kids is inappropriate, he says that some books are promoting “gender ideology” in a very subtle and subliminal way, as if including a trans character is the same as including sexual acts in a children’s book. So then Ethan draws a parallel to the lunch box because that cartoon could be interpreted as depicting a trans woman (it would be easy to imagine someone like Tucker Carlson make this accusation, just think of his green m&m take). By equating the two, he highlights the absurdity of saying that kids even being aware of trans people and drag queens is somehow damaging, as opposed to the actual common sense take that kids shouldn’t see actual sexual acts (which is not the case at an all ages drag shows).
