I never expected to learn french from liza mineli, but she is amazingly talented.

It's kind of frustrating. I understand French quite well when reading or if someone speaks slowly. But as soon as he/she speeds up, my brain just can't keep up. All of a sudden I only hear words and am not able to determine how they relate to one another.

Merci! J'etudier français en l'ecole. I don't think I'll ever use formal French as a teenager, si I want to learn casual/informal French. It would be kinda weird if I were to talk to native French speakers my age en French, and sound like an old, classy, formal grandma.

Thank you so much Géraldine! You are obviously driven by a love of language, and I am finding your You Tube videos very helpful indeed. Slang expressions bring to mind an incident where a friend and I went to visit some people in New York City. The lady of the house said something to my friend (in French) which I didn't catch. He replied, but I didn't catch that either (this was a long time ago and I had far less French then than now). In any case, she flounced out of the room, obviously offended. He turned to me and said, in English 'Susceptible!' I must have looked puzzled, because he then repeated 'Susceptible?' That is, checking with me whether it was an English word (his English is pretty good). I nodded, but I was still puzzled. Later, when I looked it up, I discovered that 'susceptible' in French, means 'touchy'. One day, if I should go to Canada, where he is located, again before I die, I must try to remember to remind him of the incident and tell him that he should have said 'Touchy!' Merci beaucoup encore!

Learning French always feels like trying to be part of an exclusive club that you never will be part of no matter how hard your try. One foot in the door and they hit you with a never ending list of slang. Désolé, tu dois être sortie.
