When hubby and I decided in July 2020 that we were going to move to France, I started doing Duolingo for at least 30 minutes/day. I added watching videos with English subtitles, listening to French music, watching various KZread teaching videos. I was really frustrated because I speak Spanish but every time I attempted French, my Spanish would come out. But I stuck with the 30 minutes/day. In late August it happened. I was able to pull the French words out of my brain instead of Spanish. I just returned last week from 4 weeks in France. I was sooooo happy with how good I did with my French. Yes, it’s like a child. but I could typically communicate my needs and many times understand what others were saying! I was thrilled. We are moving to Pau (yes, I’m Diane’s friend!) in April!!!

Other learning techniques 1) To find books in Spanish to learn French. 2) To find books in French to learn Spanish. This way you can find parallel equivalents for both languages? Buena, suerte!!! Bonne chance!!!

At the beginning of learning french I felt so overwhelmed, and like I could never learn it! But here I am trying reallyyyyyyy hard to understand. I am mainly learning about and how to speak the language so I can talk to my friends! A lot of them don’t know much English so up to now it’s been a bit of broken English and some french mixed in... and now I’ve been learning for a few months and have started to pick up parts of the language and I am very fluent in reading french, but I don’t know how to say the words so that’s why I’ve been having to watch all these videos, because french is really hard sometimes... but baby steps! I know that it will take a while! Thanks for this video it was very helpful!!

Pronunciation is too often underestimated. IT IS VITAL TO SOUND GOOD ENOUGH to be understood. She does great job. The more often you are understood by natives the more you want to learn it. Plus it actually shrotens the process for o f leraning a lenguage.
