I was shaping a maple neck last night and thought I needed to make up some paper contour gauges (what a pain)! Then, after watching your video, it reminded me that I own the contour/radius gauge you are using. Thanks for a great video and reminding me about the radius gauge! It saves a lot of time!

Thank you for watching Archtops! Yes the contour gauge is a great tool for carving your back contour.

Hey Eric, wondering if you'd share your profile lines. In the works of making my first neck, and I really don't know where to start with drawing the lines in to carve to. For this guitar its just a learning process, and not dead set on a neck shape, so I am open to getting a basic neck shape made then I can understand what I am doing for the next one.

It’s one of my favorite things about the build process! This is, in my opinion, where it counts because the neck is the main “tool” of the guitar!

Am really loving your vids. Nice montage work, professional camera work and best of al: amazingly craftsmanship. Am gathering information o make my own guitar and this is real helpful! Perhaps you can make a video with the tools that you definetly need and stuff. That would be amazingb

at 0:51, are the two sides of the heel parallel or following the fretboard contour?

Eric, I like your no-nonsense videos. I've only built two guitars so far, but the first one I installed frets BEFORE I carved the neck, and it was way easier. I had to make a kind of "cradle" for the carved neck to support it the second time when I installed frets AFTER carving. Are there any pros/cons to either way, and why do you do it after carving?

Hi Scott! Thank you for watching! Really you can do it either way. I guess as o was learning to this process, I decided to carve the back contour first and have been doing the same all these years! As you progress, you will find “your way” of achieving your goal. Good luck and always have fun doing this!👍🏻👍🏻 cheers!

@@ericcellini7499 Thank you my friend I certainly am having fun. I have talked to a few other people and I think I know how I am going to do it now. I am probably going to use my miter and slot my fretboard and then put the frets in at that point, before I glue to the neck. That way I can also carve the neck and see if anything happens like twisting, And then if I want to use pins to help secure the front board while glowing, I can pin where I am going to do in lay.

Isagani Galacio Hello! The brand is Stanley. I think I got it at Home depot. The scrapers I bought at my local woodworker's emporium. Thanks for your interest.

Steve, the neck I got with my $120 ebay tele kit is like a telephone pole. Do you think it would work if I gave it a reshape?

Really good tutorial, but the music really gets in the way sometimes. Your teaching style is a great balance between informative and relaxed; I don't think you need to keep putting music in to keep the viewer entertained.
