Era of Reclamation Ep.14: The Finale

The Era of Reclamation event series at the British Museum has aimed to provide a challenging and thought-provoking forum for debate, performance and conversation about diversity, connection, agency and belonging.
For our final conversation join co-creators, former Deputy Chair of Trustees Bonnie Greer and former British Museum Director Hartwig Fischer, as they review the challenges, highlights and discoveries from conversations with their guests.
The conversations ranged from: 'What is Black History now?' to 'What role do museums play in this climate of social change and upheaval?' and from 'What is the importance of the mighty Caribbean in history and in the present time?' to 'What are the challenges facing Black curricula today and going forward?'
They will also look at what has arisen and evolved in the three years since the series started, and what these events mean for museums. They will examine the need for museums to be more available, accessible, meaningful and relevant. How do they become spaces that encourage interrogation, engagement, emotion, healing and revelation - what they refer to as 'arenas of cognition'.
Can museums play a part in the great quest of our era - the reclamation of our common humanity?
