I am looking at a bus right now and saw your trials and tribulations on this trip. Makes me think that the build will need to start with the engine/trans and chassis. Of course, you can have that done and still have problems on the road. The payoff Wess, was your meeting all those good people in Colorado which is a beautiful state. You were never truly alone. People helping people through tough times. What it is all about.

Wow! what a beautiful bunch of friends pulling together for each other to keep the big buses rolling, so happy your trip home was safe and you got back home without any more mechanical problems with the bus. Great video, thanks.

If I ever buy a bus and convert it, the main thing I will do is replace all hoses, belts, and anything rubber that could fail due to age. Keep the replaced parts for quick repairs down the road. I would also have my break system checked and the lines cleaned out/replaced. A great video for all newbies for sure!

This is one of my favorite skoolie videos. And I've watched 100's of them. So great how everyone came together to help you along. You seem like a very genuine person. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more. My husband and I are planning to buy a school bus this next spring to convert for our retirement home and your bus is one of the greatest I've seen that really matches my taste. I also look forward to being a part of the skoolie community as it seems like you all have such great connections. Be well and happy travels

DIG IT MAAAAN!! I'll preface this by saying I think it sucks you had these issues. ANOTHER caliper go up on you just after you had a caliper go up on you. But it makes my heart swell to see you and your tribe all band together and get rolling again. ON TOP OF A RADIATOR MISHAP!! JEEZE!! But, like in the Navy, when a ship gets overhauled, you gotta do a shakedown, and work out the bugs. And that's just life. You truly Transcended the experiences, and then run into FAMILY while broken down! DIG IT! Great footage and as usual, you MAKE the time pay it forward, and hold class on the torque Converter! AMAZING soul! Thank you for a great experience and keep rolling! MAAAAD Props to Carl. If I ever get that way, I'll but some parts off of him or something. Guy is a class act professional! KEEP ROLLING!!!

It's also nice to see that you were rewarded for your patients and positive outlook by running into such good people. I am awed by everything you have done as well as how you have done it! Whew ... it's late here and just skipped around but..... Gotta tell ya ... it's brave, imo, to take a maiden voyage through the rockies. Lots of demanding roads. Lived in Colo Springs for 20 years ... love the state. I know other states have some great scenery but ... I sure loved driving to work each am .... and seeing the sunrise splash on pikes peak. Happy trails!

Awesome build! .. Just power watched the process... Old brake hoses swell shut... The only thing that allows the pads to back off the rotor is the flex from the rotor pushing them back out... With bad brake hoses, the pressure that the master cylinder applies is far, far greater than what the rotor flex can apply.. Soooo, you can get fluid through the swollen lines to apply the pads but they won't return to the "off" position.... Definitely a common problem with older brake hoses... Keep on, Keep'n on 👍👍

we bought our bus 4 years ago tore seats out painted put everything we own (including a glass studio) then drove from Texas to Virginia. then by myself i had to replace my 7.3 liter diesel (zero prior knowledge of diesel engines) took me 2 weeks and started on the first try!!!!! blew my mind. drove a hour was talking to the universe asking for a break.... then my rear driver side brakes started on fire..... replaced all the calipers and pads and other things. (found out much later it was the brake lines being old and clogging. basically the brake lines were becoming one way valves!) made it to Colorado and she started over heating. while inspecting the hot engine the radiator cap popped off and got massive burns on my left arm and my beard saved my face a bit. as i was leaving Colorado for Minnesota i was again talking to the universe and as soon as i said the words im exhausted a 4 foot section of my exhaust pipe fell off under my driver seat..... it was a loud drive from co to MN lol. but thanks to your videos when i made it to Texas again i cut the roof off and made this bus a house! thank you so much for your videos!@!! im working on documenting better of my build! thanks for the inspiration.

sorry to hear that you had so many troubles on your maiden voyage. that's why I want to do the conversion on the bus I'm going to replace all the brake lines calipers even the rotors if they really need to be done and brake pads of course. and I plan on having an air compressor for taking off the Lugnuts and doing other work so I'll have a mini garage everywhere I go LOL cuz I'll be doing mobile mechanic work in order to have money for our travels. plus I will probably have extra parts for the bus so that if anything major happens I will have the part already another starter and alternator radiator hoses anything that I think would go wrong with the motor I'm going to try to have the parts to fix it with us.

I do my best to live right.....after taking the calipers off and looking at them, they were in seriously bad condition. I'm really lucky they made it through the 6% grades coming down the mountains. Nevertheless....the entire braking system is getting a makeover!

Congratulations on your maiden voyage and 👏🏼👏🏼to amaZing friends with unconditional ❤️❣❣ Awesome scenery shots😃👏🏼👏🏼 With those break downs were they ones that could have been detected before leaving with a thorough check of systems or ones that you just don't know until you give it a good run?? What year is your bus? I am pondering a bus and it's things like what happened to you on your trip that makes me question this decision-:). It seems like there are so many great individuals out there willing to help. Awesome job CARQUEST! The mechanics of things would not be my forte😃(I'm sure I could learn some-:). Would love to see a video going over your summary of your maiden voyage, how the bus handled, the way you have set it up for living and if you would make any changes adjustments-:). Blessings

I know this is old, but couldn't you have used vise grips on the rubber part of the line for the caliper and then released the pressure with the bleeder screw? with the vise grip on i,t you could have driven it.

man that sucks that 1 bolt took out your new radiator. I guess you know that you should change that fan asap. being out of balance can really create some problems. keep an eye on those rear wheel seals. now that you built up some heat with the stuck calipers it seems like older wheel seals let go shortly after. ( may not be as bad with disc brakes ). always an adventure. over all though, how was the power on the highway and how was the fuel mileage ?

Jeffrey Yeip we actually cut other blades off and balanced it again. the bearing in that fan was so good the heavy side always fell, it may not have been perfect, but it was close!
