Episode 1203: Chocolate & Churros, Rick Bayless "Mexico: One Plate at a Time"
In Mexico, golden crispy churros are served with a cup of nourishing, frothy hot chocolate, and there’s perhaps no better snack in the whole republic. In this episode, Rick visits El Moro, a Mexico City institution, and then orders fistful of churros rellenos - that’s right, stuffed churros - in picturesque Coyoacán. Back in Chicago, Rick’s recipe begins with classic Mexican hot chocolate and ends with churro nibbles showered atop Mexican hot chocolate ice cream.

Lanie is all grown up, I remember older episodes when she was a college student (or younger) dropping in to help her dad with recipes. This was a great episode, churros!
Churros are delicious, but buñuelos bring back memories of comfort for me.
Dude I'm going to Mexico city and Oaxaca in April and this has been the most amazing series to watch before I go. Thanks for all the tips!!!

@@Oldman808 Racist...and how many times has Rick Bayless gone to Mexico and when have you seen him sick??
The quality of your videos, the music and your voice, does justice to Mexico and you.
wow Rick, your daughter, my most fresh memory of her is watching pbs and you guys making cochinita, I love you since then.
Omg your little girl grew into a beautiful young lady. I remember when you celebrate her birthday in a traditional fiesta. Many blessings to you and your family ❤
In the Yucatan Peninsula, the chocolate is also prepared with water. I remember my two grandmothers going to the Molino to grind the chocolate with spices and almonds to make the “tablillas de chocolate” used to make us our chocolate for breakfast or supper
Watching this sure lifted my mood up even though am a Puerto Rican living in boring and cold Missouri! Gracias senor!
I just gained 20 lbs watching you eat my favorite desert and drink! Love your new show 😉😊
Rick.... you're Mexican now. Your love for Mexican cuisine and show it to the world is wonderful. Thank you Rick. I saw you in an American TV show competing with great chefs for the best dish. You won with mole from Oaxaca dish and you said when you won...viva Mexico. Again thank you Rick for your love for Mexico. God bless you and your family.
That chocolate sauce looks divine!!! 😋 Love the daddy daughter dynamic. 🥰
Rick Bayless is the best hands down, I will always be a lifelong fan and because of your great cooking my skills in the kitchen has greatly improved. For that thank you
OMG LANI IS beautiful as always. I remember her when she was younger in the earlier episode. Time flies. Love you both
My High School Spanish text book was titled Churros y Chocolate 😁
Best cuisine in the world.
Mr.Bayless thank you for choosing the magnificent food of Mexico to be known in the Beautiful USA.
Love Mexican food! Looks amazing
Excelent information about this delicious dessert, thank you Rick Bayless.
No better show than Mexico One Plate at a Time.
Nice to see Laney. Seems, like it has been a long time... Glad to see her having success in the business. ps, we have those same Frankoma Cups!
I absolutely love this series and all your recipes Rick 😁
The music choices slap so hard
First off.. That ice cream looks divine! Yumm! Secondly I went to El Moro 5 years ago with my family, I wanted my abuelito to try them since you had been there before and other influencers and I did not like it at all. The service was horrendous, they didn’t have most of the items on the menu and the hot chocolate was ok lacked flavor. The churros itself were a little dry for my taste. We stopped by the stand outside next door that had Al pastor tortas, that was THE worst place ever. They were rude as heck and the tortas only were a bolillo with barely any meat. I went to Coyoacan this Christmas and had Jordan churros, omg so delicious 🤤 we had khalua, cajeta, Nutella, baileys stuffed churros. The only complaint is that they are very small.
There is cool mythology behind chocolate, the warm chocolate drink was only for the tlatoani and the royal family, it was associated with everyone’s favorite mesoamerican god, Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan as the one who gave the people the cacao beans, and it was mixed with chilies, water and cacao powder
Used to love this show. Awesome. Talented man. Did not know his bro was skip on sports show. Lots don't know. Cool. He's so mellow compared to his bro. Wish show would come back.
Nice perfect for this cold freeze were having!
So good to see Lanie and you together cooking on TV again! Wonderful show!
Churros are life 😊
I like especial, too, it has canela also. What I think of when I dink Mexican chocolate. Didn’t know churros originated in Spain. The sheep, yes, not fried churros. ❤the history.
This looks so good. I wish you could ship me some because I'm telling you I'm hungry right now for something sweet

I'm so glad I have an ice cream maker. :-)

Ty Rick!
I love your show and thank you for sharing
My lord, that ice cream looks phenomenal.
that was the name of my high school, freshman year, textbook
In Yucatan they also make hot chocolate with water. This is how we used to have it as kids!
That was an awesome video/production.
Omg!!! You guys….. this looks delicious!! I Can and will try this ❤🎉
saludos, Don Bayless y Lanie!
Thank you Mr. Rick , I love it too but in the South we toast the Maseca, cinnamon, and one Clove then do the Drink. Try it Maybe you like it.

Stuffed churros are the true Mexican churros. Also, cinnamon on churros is a Mexican thing. The Spanish only fry the dough and add sugar.

I'll have to look up what Spanish churros look like, but it sounds like how they make them in Tamaulipas. ---just looked it up, no, in Mante Tamaulipas they are more swollen looking, can't really see that it had a star shape. They are much bigger and have air bubbles inside them. I found a video and have it set at the time they start showing the churros. They also don't put cinnamon, which always dismayed me. But I got used to them, they're good on a cold day. Here's the video kzread.info/dash/bejne/on9o1q5tY8vemtI.html

First to view this! It’s going to be sooo good to watch. Yum Rick - Ciudad 🇲🇽 Mexico!
I went to El Moro in November, they didn't even try to hide the Hersheys squeeze bottles, that was very disapointing.
Senor Rick ! Ur cinematography and editing are outstanding as well as your expertise and acknowledgement about mexican gastronomy , hat off and big standing ovation to your work! Gracias amigo

I enjoyed most of your video, but towards the end in regard to the churros, It was like reinventing the wheel, churros are long, and You don’t sprinkle them with sugar you put them under the sugar and put the sugar on top. As for those tiny bites I don’t know it’s not traditional I’ve never seen them before in Mexican states anywhere. I think you should have left them in the oil longer so they can be crispy and be well cooked on the inside
Is it safe to use water from Mexico in your chocolates.
You don't toast the mazza???
♥️😺👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
👍😋👍♥️♥️♥️👍👍
Mexico has become a very dangerous place to visit. We got lost, and wound up in the poorest neighborhood I’ve ever seen anywhere - just hovels made of scrap material, dirt floors, makeshift doors, and no utilities. I felt only my guardian angel got me out of there unscathed.

@@51rwyatt 1% of Mexicans own 46% of the nation’s wealth. The top 10% of Mexicans own over 78% of the nation’s wealth. So there exists an enormous wealth inequality, with an accompanying marked degree of poverty. In Mexico City one sees scads of homeless children. The rich must live in gated neighborhood communities with armed guards and surrounded by a razor wire perimeter fencing or concrete walls with shards of broken glass embedded. Is Mexican chocolate like the Peruvian chocolate and includes the cocoa butter
@gabobeltran9132

It's even better cause cocoa 's originally cones from Mexico since the aztecs used a currency unit and its sofistication and cooking techniques were acquired by Spaniards and that allow them to spread all around the world that's why peru got it finally
I don't remember el moro having that many variations of chocolate... i never liked them because being too sweet. That woman its kinda scurry
Never ever ever! blend hot chocolate
I got some chocolate and a churro for you right here
