EP#82: Ottomans to Gaza - A Century Later, Have We Learned Nothing? Dr Yakoob Ahmed

In this episode, Dr. Yakoob Ahmed discusses the ongoing conflict in Gaza and reflects on the lessons from history that seem forgotten. We delve deep into the historical intricacies of the Ottoman Khilafah and its lasting impact on contemporary Muslim discourse. Joined by esteemed historian and lecturer, Dr. Yakoob Ahmed, we explore pivotal events such as the abolishment of the Ottoman Khilafah and their repercussions in today's tumultuous landscape, particularly in Gaza. From questioning the significance of October 7th to reflecting on a century without the Khilafah, we dissect why Muslims seemingly struggle to reclaim their esteemed heritage. Join us as we unravel the legacy of the Sahaba and draw parallels to navigate the challenges of our time.

Majority Turkish people are no better as they're stuck with ataturk ideology It has nothing got to do with Arab non Arab the Muslim as a whole didn't support ottoman at that period for various reasons Ottoman were not Saint they too made mistakes and were at that point both weak and lost in islam which made Muslim lose trust in them including their nationalism which they were going through

Along the same lines and please take this not as a criticism but an observation for the host, I am supposing that the common address of 'bro' is due to familiarity between the two of you but it still bothers to hear a scholar and historian addressed so casually. I get the feeling that Dr Yakoob doesn't mind but I think titles or a more formal address of a guest is expected. Barak Allahu fikum! Exvellent words from Dr Yakoob as always.

Absolutely no offence taken. Jazakallah khayr for your advice. You are correct that I have known Dr Yakoob for a while and hence why I was addressing his as such. However, I take your advice on board and will try to improve in this area In Sha Allah. On a different note, I do recommend you check out the podcasts I have previously recorded with Dr Yakoob, and also those with Ustadh Lotfi Abdurrahman.

Ma'shaAllah, as always, terrific thoughts from Dr. Yakub. But, I was just coming here to say the same thing. May we all learn and remember to give respect where it's due (such as here with Dr. Yakub), and to elevate our words🙏🏻 (see 1:20 on, for a better explanation of this point).

This is excellent, my advice is to upload the different segments as separate uploads, as each one is very good and not really being spoken about by muslims online.

Jazakallah Khayr for your comment and advice bro. I have done this in the past with episodes which are quite long, so that people don't miss out on the amazing content due to being put off by the length of the episode. However, I have been uploading shorts... but that doesnt really capture the content. Which parts would you like to see as different segments?

About clothing and the like, the dress code was abolished my last year of high school and I could clearly see how casual both students and teachers became in their attitudes and postures. Our social mores, morals and manners have all regressed considerably and not to our betterment.

Not just islamic world but globally there seems to be a complete lack of leadership to be responsible and adult to cope with the real problems. I also notice that globally I see persecution of Muslims: Uyghurs, Rohinga, Palestinians. I ask myself why. What is Allah showing us? Are we seeing who is truly good and who is bad? I agree it may not be at all what we think of what needs to happen to make things 'right'. But that there is another purpose in these events.

Is it true that Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the quran!? Not talking about "al aqsa mosque" because that just means furtherest mosque.

Yes, Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Qur'an by name, however, Allah (SWT) makes reference to Masjid Al-Aqsa, the blessed land etc. Why does this seem to trouble you? Also, from your understanding, where do you think 'Masjid Al-Aqsa' is? I.e the 'furthest Mosque'

@TheMuslimPodcaster Don't listen to these ppl. They are parroting the insane ramblings of that Saudi loon who went viral for claiming that Palestinians aren't Arabs and that Saudis and Jews are true cousins, unlike the Palestinians who are gypsies. He also claimed that Masjid Al Aqsa was in Taif, Saudi Arabia, not Jerusalem and therefore the Holy sanctuary in Jerusalem actually belongs to the Jews.

Jazakallah khayr for the advice! I can now see where this person may have been taking this. To be honest, I knew something wasn't right, but what you have mentioned is bang on and can see how this line of questioning would try to make their case. May Allah (SWT) reward you. Ameen
