EP#83: Does Gaza Reflect the Ummah as One Body?

Join us for the inaugural episode of our Ramadan Round-Table Series, where I am joined by my co-hosts, Affy, and Rash, as we discuss the important topic of the Ummah's unity. We reflect on the hadith of the Messenger (saw), likening the Ummah to a single body, amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, now in its sixth month. Are we truly embodying solidarity or falling short in our response? Tune in as we explore these critical questions and strive for genuine unity and action.

Gaza made it look obvious, but when things like the Rohyga situation, and what was happening to Ughyers etc etc, they exposed how powerless we really are. Some of us in the Ummah even turned a blind eye to the atrocities because of business gains....

Jazakallah Khayr for your comment. I agree, Gaza has exposed many things however like you said, the Muslims have been persecuted for a long time now. I remember when the Rohingya crisis was all over the news, there were Muslim countries who were turning back boats of refugees trying to flee. In regards to the Ummah being powerless, I would add that the Ummah in fact very poweful, however it is shackled and its power, its resources is not available to it. Of course, this then people indeed feel powerless as they can do nothing to aid or stop these atrocities from happpening. For those who turned a blind eye for business gains... well, there is no escape from the Judgement of Allah (SWT) and this should be at the forefront of our minds.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.

Jazakallah Khayr for your comment akhi. I would like to add that the Ummah definitely feels powerless but it is not powerless. This is part of the problem... that it has been psychologically drilled into us that we are weak and powerless. The reality is that this Ummah belongs to the same Ummah as Badr, Khandaq, Qadasiya, Yarmouk etc... however until we do not realise that we do in fact possess all faculties of power, and that we are current shackled and deprived of these, we will continue to feel sorry for ourselves. What it really comes down to is how much does the Ummah want this? How much is it willing to sacrifice? Does it prioritise the Duniya over the Aakhirah? ... the rest would be formality as Victory only comes from Allah (SWT), but we must prove that we are worthy of His victory.

If you want to see how a world-wide ummah functions with a single leader at the top, look at the Catholic Church today, which is led by Pope Francis and grew by 16 million in 2020 to 1.36 billion, mostly in Africa & Asia. This isn't ALL Christians, but just the single largest sect that make up about half of the world-wide Christian population.

Thank you for your comment. There is a difference between the leadership of the Pope to the leadership in Islam, as the Pope is the spiritual leader for the Catholic world, whilst the Khalifah is both the spiritual and political leader of the Muslim Ummah.
