I’m only 6 mins in but I disagree with fives not feeling. We do, probably long before anyone else does but we go up in our heads to be rational so that we can function in the world. It’s disconnecting from a surge of emotions. We observe... non verbal communication, tone, behavior, patterns and even sense moods. It’s very overwhelming and draining.

It is NOT that 5's are not 'Heart' elt. It IS that ALL their sensory inputs (the 5 senses + mind+ Spiritual) are too sensative... This causes over stimulation and often 'meltdown'. A 5 can be observing/studying an ant hill/nature... and burst out in tears. How can she explain why?... All she can say is 'The Beauty'.. Exactly... When my feelings are extremely "active" I don't feel the most competent and that is frightening. In order to make good choices you need the ability to think clearly to form a proper assessment of next steps. As I get older the wall between my feelings and my facts is less resilient and it's exhausting. It feels like I literally can't think if there are feelings intruding all over my logic. To feel like you need to filter decisions, your rebuttals and all unalignment through a lense to be sure it's based on facts and not how the wind blew that day. I'm soo over It. Fixit Jesus 😂. I'm only partially kidding 🙏🏾

5w6, safe to say that while I am not greedy, I am antisocial. It’s hard to understand emotions and the hardest question to answer for me is “how are you feeling”. I tend to feel pretty alone, even among others. While I have been called a jack of all trades, I have also been called an introvert & zombie. I think the hardest thing I deal with is existentialism. I have a hard time finding “the one” thing I’m passionate about, because there are so many. Finding love is even worse because letting someone see the real me is one of my greatest fears. Funny how writing this behind a keyboard is easier than saying it my family and friends... God please enter my life and guide me so that I may better myself, the lives around me, and leave this world a little better than how I found it.

It’s so true what a radical change there is in a 5 sort of person who has truly been transformed by Jesus! I am a 5, and a Myers-Briggs INTJ. Before I really gave my life to Christ, by default I didn’t like being around people, I wanted to be completely left alone to study and research, and not only did I not know how to converse with and persuade people from an emotional and empathetic “heart“ standpoint, but I had no desire to. All I cared about was logic. And actually, it was logic and rationale that convinced me of the truth of Christianity! I studied all of the evidence and read all the books and was convinced. But I was still only arguing and debating people on the validity of eyewitness testimonies and archaeological finds and cosmological arguments. Those are important, but I was never reaching out for people’s hearts. And I had no interest in being actively involved in the social side of my church. Ick. When I finally actually gave my whole heart and mind to Jesus, he gave me the *desire* to empathize with people as human beings, and to get excited about spending time with my family in my church! His joy overflows out of me so much that I seem bubbly and extroverted! When I tell people I’m actually an INTJ, a 5, an **introvert,** they are always shocked! I no longer look or act like a stereotypical INTJ/5, because he transformed me to care about his *people,* not just the facts. Now I have the power of research and logic, AND the power of empathy and emotional communication. He is doing wonderful things through me now. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Hopefully 1 day I can go through this journey. But it's such a struggle for me cause I love being by my self getting lost in a video game. & he did say we 5's have to watch out for video games. & that's where my issue is. Ever since I was a kid. I always had my own room & own video game consoles in that room. Literally only time my parents would call me out of my room when it was dinner time. Now I'm 29 & find it awkward & weird to go visit my own family regularly cause I never even did it when I was younger. I didn't just go out there & sit on the couch & watch a movie with them. Naw I'd prefer to be in my room playing my game. I even remember always trying to eat my food faster. Just so I can get back to the game. Now they want me to come visit & I make up any excuse why I can not. It's horrible. & I haven't even gotten to serving at the church. Cause I really dislike being around people. Especially crowds of people. I have literally 0 desire. But I do know deep down that this is the right step for me to take. Is by getting into small group & trying to serve & get out there more. But man taking that 1st step & staying committed is what I am struggling with now. But I did start going into the actual Sunday services at the campus every single Sunday but I have only been going for about 2 months. But immediately when service is over. I'm like the 1st one out the door. All bad I know. Man I got a long way to go. & a lot to work on.

I won’t lie I think one of the scariest moments I’ve had was during high school when I had just found out my father had a daughter with another woman that wasn’t my mother I had stood up for him and rationalized his bad behavior so many times growing up as he had been cheating on my mom since I was 5 but never had a child with any of them. When I found out this time was different I felt embarrassed and broken and I burst into tears, I felt how everything was falling apart but all it too was one glance at my mother and I realized I couldn’t break , that just wasn’t an option I had. Took a deep breath and when I exhaled I felt nothing. Nothing at all… That panicking, brokenness and utter despair was forced deep into my heart and I couldn’t feel anything. No pain, just emptiness and while I was numb I was able to help and support my mother but when it came time to heal myself it was nearl impossible to do The only one who could was Jesus❤️ Even so feeling such a strong and raw emotion of broken-heartedness suddenly vanish was scary because I knew it wasn’t right, it was dangerous but at that moment it was the only thing I could do to protect myself

I am an Enneagram 5 married to a 2. It's been awesome for 42 years. (Yes Douglas Adam , 42 is the answer to everything, at least for now. 🙂) The fly in your ointment for me is that I am an atheist. (No casting of stones please.) But even so I enjoyed the Enneagram stuff. It was great. Thanks for sharing. I have a 4 wing as well, and I think that helped to make me a far better teacher for the decade I taught. The 5 can sometimes be disconnected from the class and just plow forward but that 4 wing gave me a insight to the ones who didn't get it. It was just enough of the heart side of the equation to keep the head section running at high efficiency for that application. A side note, my wife was given a microphone by an illusionist on our cruise who had wandered down at the start of his routine to "interface." He asked her a question and he almost had to use magic to forcibly remove the mike. When she gets a mike and an audience, Katy bar the door. He mumbled to her, "Would you like to do the show?" As a 5, I do know how they do most of their tricks, and after 42 years of marriage, I also know enough to keep it to myself and let my wife enjoy the show. :-)

I should add one more thing about asking me questions. My wife warns all of her friends first thing, to not ask me anything, unless they want a very complete answer. I may breakout the charts and graphs. :-) When we first met back in 1974, she asked me how an evaporative cooler worked. I gave her a complete rundown, and sketched in the working parts and explained them all. However, I noticed she wasn't following me closely enough to understand. So, I a gave her a written test. It has been nearly 44 years and she has never forgiven me for that test. She tells all her friends about it, to warn them how seriously I take my knowledge when I share it with others. I am very thankful that she has a heart of gold and loves me completely. I don't know why she loves me but she is my goddess (metaphorically speaking of course) and I worship the ground she walks on. In my opinion, I landed the best 2 on the planet.

Thank you for this. I can't describe how incredibly beautiful this series is, and the way you tied Nicodemus into it brought me to tears. There's something so special about the way you tie in those who're Biblical figures into this. It makes you connect with it and the entirety of that love story that is the Bible, in a completely and utterly different, and miraculous way. Pastor Brown's way of doing this is delightful; so grateful the Lord directed me to Sandals Church's channel. If you haven't (I have to catch up on your other videos), I hope you eventually go into things like tritypes, wings, subtypes and MBTI typing. Not necessarily the minutia of it all, but the general points, as they really helped me with nuance differences between enneagram types like the fact that, indeed, as was said, we 5s don't hate people, we just, especially if introverted MBTI types, genuinely become zapped of energy on both a physical and emotional level, and we're like a phone with 1% battery. If you only charge us for 5 mins and take us off the charger, we can only function for so long before we're exhausted again. Once we're good on energy, some of us are more open to sharing with others because of our subtypes, as well (sexual subtype 5w6 here, so I'm more talkative/emotional and resemble Type 4 more than other 5s). ...Can relate with your friend about sitting in your new car, btw... dunno about you, but I like sitting it in just to bask in the smell it, lol! Being an empath and a 5 senses-sensitive INFJ, sometimes scents and sounds are really the best part of our experiences. A good time can equate to spending hours singing to the Lord while standing outside and staring at the stars on a cold night, because the temperature's right and the sight is beautiful, etc.

Yes I am a 5w4, so the 4 comes into it, but 5's are THE type that falls in love with, is in awe of BEAUTY and "perfection", and true perfection is found in ALL THINGS when one is conscious/aware/mindful. But indeed, it is typical that 5's don't show as much emotions typically compared to some other types, and might not share them with just about anyone, and we don't know how to "process them" consciously. Our emotional.. world if so to say is deep and beautiful beyond most people's comprehension

God teaches us through the Bible, which is the only tool we need. Proverbs 30:6 warns us, "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." The enneagram is strongly associated with New Age philosophy and has occultic origins. The man credited with introducing the enneagram to the West is George Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff was a mystic, philosopher, and spiritual teacher immersed in occultic practices such as astrology, mental telepathy, spiritism, fortune telling, and posession. One of his followers Oscar Ichazo, along with Claudio Naranjo (a psychiatrist and occultist) began relating the enneagram with personality types in the 1960s. In a 2010 interview, Caudio Naranjo admitted that he lied about the origins of the enneagram because he wanted his idea to become famous and widely accepted. Naranjo admitted the enneagram is not an ancient tool of Babylonian origin. He confessed he arrived at the nine personality types through "automatic writing," which is the process of producing written words while in a trance state. The words arose from a supernatural source. The bible warns us not to channel spirits (Leviticus 19:31). The enneagram is a demonic New Age teaching that is infiltrating the church. Please do your research, and remember the devil is the master of deception. Don't be led astray. 🙏🏼 The interview link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaCDla2Dh9G0lJs.html

Because while ya it's cool to blow people's minds...I'd just really like to engage in a conversation with similar people. I feel so rare. Which isn't bad, just lonely... honestly. It also feels awkward because I rarely let anyone in. So when I do and I talk too much, it's weird for all of us. Suddenly the quiet one speaks but she doesn't shut up. That's what it feels like to me about me. IDK, it's such a struggle to relate to people and not be weird.

As an Enneagram 5, I am now finding that faith and belief in Jesus and God is a choice that is made without evidence. I thought for a long long time: How can I believe something if there's no empirical evidence. I am a huge skeptic and I would say for the past 25 years 99% atheistic. But recently my mind has been changing. Something is changing in my mind that I can't explain. I have read the bible and the New Testament particularly many times. Along with other religious texts. But never "believed". I've seen Passion of the Christ. The Ten Commandments is one of my favorite movies. But still, the belief just wasn't there. Then I had a phone call with my non-religious mother a couple weeks ago and she told me about The Chosen. I binge watched the first two seasons. Why this one program got me thinking vs. all the literature and movies I've seen touched me I have no idea. But it got me to (against my skeptic mind) I started praying. I talked to my mother the other say and found out that she prayed that there would be a was for Jesus to touch her family's heart. My niece came to her the next day and reluctantly told my mother that she wanted to become Christian. She mentioned her prayer to me after I told her how the show touched me and my heart and mind are changing. Do I have doubts? Absolutely. But I choose to have faith now. I choose to belief. I don't know where it came from. But it's there. To add to this. I think the Sandles Church youtube channel is a great evangelical channel.

Gran Lobo -- I'm so glad you commented. I get so happy when God reveals himself to people in such a personal way and so awesome that your family is experiencing this at the same time! You've reminded me of the interaction between the risen Jesus and one of his disciples Thomas (John 20:24-29). Thomas was trying to rationalize and understand what he thought was impossible -- that it was actually Jesus, who Thomas knew was crucified and died days earlier. It's an amazing picture how Jesus greets him with peace, then let's him actually touch the holes in his body, but it's what he says at the end that makes me so happy for you... Jesus says to Thomas: "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me." This means that YOU ARE BLESSED! because you've believed without seeing. Hebrews 11:1 describes Faith as "the reality (or assurance) of what we hoped for, the proof of what is not seen." It's the bridge between what we know and experiencing the reality of God. I pray God continues to make Himself known to you and your family as you trust and put your faith, hope and love in Jesus. Sandals offers a couple things I thought I'd share if you want to go deeper. There are bible plans and reflection questions in sandals church app move.sc/app. Or try a community group to unpack what God is doing with other people -- move.sc/groups Or if you want to chat first, you can reach me at online@sandalschurch.com. I often find myself wanting to say 'just gete to the point' I want to know how it ends then I can sit and listen to the long drawn out version. but I"ve also been led in prayer and reading scripture to do things that have helped with giving - tithing, setting aside time for vounteering and I think that's helped me a lot

5w4 here. Could the core sin be different for a core 5 wing 4? The "wing 4" means there is a part of me that is very in tune with my emotions. Expressions of emotions and empathy are a part of me. I do require extra time to rejuvenate in energy, however, giving myself to a generous amount of time in service is not an issue for me. This is the ninth year I've served in full time pastoral ministry. So, I am intrigued by the idea the "wing 4" could significantly nuance the core sin of a 5.

@@sydm8344 It's arbitrary, science shows the "wings" do not correlate in any logical way. From a book written by a guy named Patrick Vermeren: "The HPEI data also reveals that the idea of “wings” of the adjacent types is untenable. Adjacent types show small intercorrelations (1 shows a +0.14 intercorrelation to 2 and -0.12 to 9 for example). To make things worse, the opposite types are not correlated negatively, but positively: for example, type 1 and 6 show correlations of +0.44 (French) and +0.47 (Dutch). In their comparison to a 5FM test, they fail to notice that adjacent styles don’t show a continuous dimension. For example, if style 1 scores high on conscientiousness, the adjacent styles should somehow show at least medium correlations too. But this is not the case: for example, style 1 shows a correlation with conscientiousness of +0.58, whereas adjacent style 9 has a correlation of -0.07 and adjacent style 2 of 0.00. Except for extraversion (at least with three styles), this problem occurs for all 5FM personality traits and the enneagram styles." I'm a psychology layman, but do have a math degree. The numbers are bad for supporting Enneagram validity. Patrick concludes thus: "Why do people believe the enneagram can offer them valuable insights? Maybe people feel naturally attracted to the mystic, the occult, esoteric, sorcery, and gossip. The mere exposure effect may explain a lot as well since the enneagram has found itself a niche in the credulous world of HR. Having been subjected to the enneagram, some people might start thinking it is a valid model for explaining personality. After all, most people trust other people claiming to be professionals. And then, of course, there is the Forer effect as I described in Part I. Recognizing yourself in the test result, or in a horoscope description, can be a very powerful experience. Especially for the credulous."

Just a reminder from the encyclopedia of social sciences: ‘Typologies serve two basic functions: they codify and they allow prediction. They are appealing because they offer simplistic pigeonholing and an assumed peek into the unknown. Hence they are a form of divination and fortune telling. They can be as entertaining as any parlor game, but the real tragedy of such schemes is that life-and-death advice is being given to people. A “Temperament Counselor” who advises on a lifetime career, marriage or spiritual development is likely to influence people’s lives for good or ill. Moreover, the victims often believe that they are really gaining knowledge about others and often rely upon the scheme to explain and excuse questionable behavior in others and themselves, instead of growing and changing by assuming responsibility. Unfortunately, from the scientific point of view, nothing is explained if the state we have attributed to the person from his behaviour, is then invoked as the cause of the behaviour from which it was inferred. Circular explanations like this give the appearance of a genuine explanation that offers genuine knowledge. But it is only illusory.’ God has not redeemed divination. Even Revelation talks about people not repenting of their "sorcery" which I do believe divination would fall under.

It's been a while and I guess I should update: Ever since a 5 day trip where we werent in contact, he started to distance himself from a few people including me. He was happy and joyful with others, but left me wondering what I did wrong every night for 2 weeks. It was a really bad few weeks for my head and every time I saw them I was almost brought to a panic attack. I had decided enough was enough and I went to calmly confront them (I realize he is an extremely nonconfrontational person) about it with their favorite snack and everything, but as I tried to talk, they put their head down and only responded with groans and silence, it was so painful for me, it was like being rejected from someone you truly love. After this, I decided it wasn't worth it to take the mental abuse from myself and it took a week to finally get them out of my head. Now flash forward a week to now, I'm distancing myself and decided to think of him as an acquaintance, but for some reason he has started talking to me normal again after completely ignoring my existence for a month. So I'm really confused and it's pulling my heart apart. As you know, I am a 2, so it's hardly his fault, mostly mine for overthinking everything and almost obsessing over it, but now that I am in a much healthier place, what do you think is going on?

@@quizeyx9515 Have you asked him what he's been up to? Maybe he's just been really busy and feels like he's being stretched in too many directions. I doubt it's uncommon for 5s to distance themselves from people from time to time when they are feeling really overtaxed (that's certainly my natural tendency). A large part of that is that most (if not all) 5s are introverts, and they need time and space alone to recharge. I can't speak for your friend, but I'm guessing that that's what has been going on with him. It's not that he doesn't like you anymore (as evidenced by the fact that you said he's gone back to talking to you normally), it's just that he temporarily needed some space. You began by originally asking what you can do to help him and show your love/appreciation to him. Giving him the space he needs, when he needs it, is the greatest gift you can give him. Instead of fretting over him distancing himself from you and other people (which is what 5s naturally do when they feel stressed), simply make yourself available. You don't want to wait for him (your life doesn't revolve around him), but just make it known that you're there for him and that you care.

I know he can be overwhelmed, so that's why I kept most of it to a minimum so I didn't freak him out as far as I know. A lot of the time for me, it's all or nothing with people I care about, and from what I've seen so far, when I dont try to give is when we get along normally. I almost feel like it brings us farther apart when I do give him everything's he asks for and more. Bear in mind the Enneagram is a works-based system. "Some teachers of the Enneagram have linked original sin to the point when a young child chooses their ego type. What then follows is the idea that we can “fix” our original sin problem through spiritual work. In essence, the Enneagram of personality becomes a works-based means of salvation. On this view, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross becomes insufficient to deal with the sin problem. We ourselves become the means to our own salvation. We correct our thinking and our shortcomings based on the test, and we remove our sin in the process. While this might help us in our sanctification, it can’t be confused as a way to actual salvation." tentmakingchristianity.com/three-more-problems-with-the-enneagram/

You CAN think your way into Heaven. Ponder and observe the work of God in your life, or even the natural world. Or on the finite nature of the mind, in contrast with An open mind leads to many amazing places. God speaks through many voices. Consider some Buddhist writings for insight into detachment and intellectual thought. And the preacher is right, be wary of spiritual guides. Especially if they tell you theirs is the only way. I assure you, you will have the hardest time of all seeing the Kingdom if you cannot see God's grace in all paths.

Yes. George Gurdjieff was big into occult practices, Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo experimented with psychedelic drugs and channeled "higher authorities" to put together the personality types (which I believe the Gurdjieff Foundation itself has stated the Enneagram had nothing to do with personality ell oh ell), and then they lied about it having "ancient" origins based on a quote by Oscar Wilde who said "if you want your idea to become famous, attribute it to someone famous". So yes, slamming ecstasy and talking to your "spirit guide" is occultic by nature. It also produces nonsense like "this type prefers to spend their energy and time on things that interest them". WOW, what a DEEP insight that is, thanks integrative9.com. I'll leave it to the experts to figure out which type I pulled that one from (it's in there.)

Insight? No, I dont believe so. The earlier works that influenced enneagram are like this: Plato came up with something loosely like the enneagram symbol. He attributed symbols to things like cubes represent earth, trapezoids represent fire, dodecahedron represents universe. Pythagoras also used symbols like squares, circles and triangles and associated numbers with these things to make sense of the universe. Plotinus wrote a book on the 6 Enneads, which loosely translate into head, heart, and body kind of like the enneagram. George Gurdjieff did some shady stuff and taught people the enneagram shape based on some kind of cult like dance, and he categorized the areas or movements of the dance into representations of people's character. There were a few other people who contributed to the idea of the enneagram and what it represented. Not all people who contributed to the enneagram were Christians. However, I honestly don't get a bad vibe from using a tool to better understand people. Enneagram is not an addition to the Christian Bible like some people are saying. It is a completely separate tool, but it can be applied to intra and interpersonal relationships.

@@karbear04 You are glossing over the fact that the personality types were created through "automatic writing". At worst, demonic channeling, at best, stream of consciousness from a guy who frequently experimented with psychedelic drugs. Much like the song we sang in Sunday school about the foolish dude building his house on the sand, that's what the enneagram is built on, a completely loose and unreliable foundation. This has been proven scientifically, thus it shouldn't be applied to any relationships. Consider the following links from Patrick Vermeren: blogs.hrminfo.eu/2019/10/20/prepublication-extract-of-a-chapter-of-a-skeptics-hr-dictionary/ "Person A makes a strong statement (e.g. about the validity of the MBTI [or enneagram]), but when they get into trouble and are confronted with the problematic theory and psychometric flaws, person A retreats to a weaker position: the discussion or conversation starter. Person A tries to pretend that this was the only intention. You see, from whatever angle you look at it, it remains a fallacy. Nice try, but no cigar. If you feel happier clinging to this wreck, go ahead! If you really prefer to look right, rather than to be right, that’s your choice." static1.squarespace.com/static/5d77a9a095914b48a1c07840/t/5dee10f95e5ce97f94f85365/1575883008258/III_Myth8_Enneagram.pdf "There is no consensus on the names of the nine types, as evidenced by the dozens of books out there about the Enneagram. All of them, without exception, use ‘woolly’ language that is sometimes simply incomprehensible and often subject to multiple interpretations. This makes it easier for readers to always recognize something of ‘truth’ in the welter of words-a clear case of the Barnum effect."

A typical 5 here. Yes, I'm very much in my head. I may be biased but we Christians misinterpret the word spirit in scripture. The spirit in ancient thought was the ability to reason. It was akin to the logos. When we interpret the N.T. we tend to use other Bible verses. Read some of the Greek literature of the time and see how the word spirit is used. If you do you will stop using it as a synonym for Heart.

I would assume it’s being used at church in the hopes that people understand different personalities and have a little more grace and understanding. Do you want to say something to someone the way you want to say it or do you want him to hear what you have to say? Sometimes those are not the same because you have to change the way you say things, depending on the personality of who you’re talking to. It’s sort of like sales. If I’m selling to a Director I talked technical if I’m talking to a CFO I talk money if I’m talking to a CEO I talk vision.

The Enneagram has nothing to do with Christianity. There are Christians who may identify as one of the nine types but it’s based off of general and maybe some specific characteristics of a person. My wife introduced me to it. She had a hard time understanding how I did some things and things personal when they weren’t meant to be. After she did a little studying, it helped her have a little more grace, and be a little slower to judge me based off of her understanding of her emotions
