as a 6w5 the loyalist my favourite feature i have is that i can most of the time tell when people are lying it can be annoying sometimes because sometimes it makes it so i lose friends because i don’t trust them and i don’t feel safe.

I'm a 6w7 and can also tell when people are lying. If they are, why have them as friends? This is a good way to weed out the insincere users. There are plenty of good people other there, and they are worth waiting for.

Haha my 6 mom made her career in customs compliance- basically her job was to know what international shipping rules were and then say to her company “if you do this we are going to be heavily fined” or “ if you break this rule our whole project could fall through”. Had to know every possibility of what her colleagues could do wrong and apply that daily. Perfect job for a 6 or what? My family has always been amazed at how for someone so anxious and afraid of the unknown, she is so calm and collected in crisis. You nailed it on the head-she’s been planning for this crisis all along! And she’s not smug or likely to say I told you so. She just goes into action and gets people together

I’m perfectly capable of relying on myself which I’ve learned to do, but it makes me hate people. In the past I’ve sought strong people to lean on but then I’m reminded that people will leave and not truly trustworthy. Ive just decided to hermit - makes things way less confusing and if you can block out the pain it’s doable. *This is not advice just reflection

6w5 sp/so here. Spot on. Always been attracted (physically and sexually) to protector types and/or those I feel like they could make me feel safe, whether in fiction or real life. But you're the first person to ever talk about it, other than myself. My best friend for awhile, I wasn't interested in -- until she stood up for me against a destructive friend and fought for me the battle I had not the courage to fight myself (too afraid of my own anger, and of alienating others :P). From that day on, we were BFFs. I can be warm and welcoming, but also argumentative, judgmental, and quarrelsome. And my desire to ask "WHY?" annoys people. :P

(6w5 here) this is going to be a strange comment but it's coming from a good place I promise lol. I grew up in the evangelical church in the south and turned my back on that stuff as a teen, went full atheist and never looked back. I'm 31 now and am vaguely spiritual/witchy and lock onto all of the things that feel right "for me" and have kinda created my own moral & belief system (I'm sure rooted in those beliefs instilled from childhood) All of that being said, your videos take me back to how I felt in church, learning about those moral truths and important information minus all of the "god stuff" from actual church. I love your videos. Thank you so much for keeping these videos open to us nonreligious folks too! I really miss that feeling.

I'm a 6w5 & I feel like I mostly gravitate towards the sexual subtype, while also sometimes self-preserving, particularly when meeting people. That being said, I LOVE structure. I find myself going towards the social subtype mostly when I'm working on something, but I'm also just not spontaneous. I joked w/ my dad the other day that I'm good w/ spontaneity about every 2 weeks. I'm open to it, the person I'm interested in rn is very outgoing & all that, but I need my safe space to revert to at the end of the day & recharge. I'm very rebellious & doubtful (even of myself, like you said). I hate feeling vulnerable, but omg am I aware of it. I try to push new people away & repress emotions often. Very spot on. Also, We're Not Gonna Take It was played very often in my childhood lol

Such a good explanation, I am the same 6w5 and after reading a book I typed me as social then sexual and last SP, but after watching this video I'm kind of more confused. I like how you explain those different variants in yourself. When he was explaining what happens if a social 6 dad has a sexual 6 kid I was thinking, well imagine that inside your head XD. I think I have spend a lot of time looking for the perfect set of rules and the perfect authority and then rebelling through the sexual against my own fear and my own rigidity and lack of spontaneity, going back and forth between those two. Lately bringing more from the shadow the SP that makes me really warm and love my family and friends.

As a 6w7 SX/SP this is pretty accurate! I believe that when it all comes down to it, you can “hope” to count on others, but you can only rely on yourself. My first instinct is to question and confront and if need be - take you out lol! Good job 👍🏻 Looking forward to watching the rest.

I came here to hear more about type 6 because I'm torn between 9, 6 and 4 and when you started talking about self-preservation over thinking I related so badly my head made a "that's it, I found what I was looking for", but seconds later my mind went " no I don't have enough info, I have to digger deeper" and now I'm laughing my ass of because that's exactly what you were talking about. obs: still not sure, still digging hahahaha I kept listening and im laughing cause I actually put percentage of how much I'm sure about things. for example I'm 49% sure I'm an isfp in mbti.

Loving these instinctual variant videos! Starting to understand why I always identified with George Costanza... I don't know if you already have a plan for your next series after the subtypes, but would you consider doing "how to tell if you're a 6w7 or 7w6" type videos? Those are the types I'm caught between for myself, and I know other people stuck between 2w3 vs 3w2 and 7w8 vs 8w7. I would love to watch a series like that! I actually mistyped as 8w9 before, but since INFPs type 8 seem to be extremely rare and almost impossible to come across, I asked people and watched your videos and am now 90% sure that I'm actually a sp/sx 6w5... maybe even 98% after this video. It just all fits together so well. I used to have problems adressing my fears because I didnt know it was fear. Usually I act like a sp 6, but also have this constant sx 6 in me. Thank you for helping me figure it all out, your videos are very informative and understandable, I will watch the others too to figure out my friends' types :D

Thank you for this video! I'm a 6 with both wings, mainly 5 - it's only recently that I've been able to lean on my 7 wing. It was really interesting to hear about the first two subtypes, because while I believe I'm secondarily Self-preservation, there are aspects to it that I disagree with and even feel disdain towards. But I think it's due to my 5 wing and the fact that I'm primarily the Sexual subtype. Lol That last description was me to a t!

As an sp/so 6, I don't really actively expand social networks of security, (I'm quite asocial actually and more on the independent side) or build relationships. I also tend not to be overly friendly and do find some security in following rules. But I do notice that I don't want to make unnecessary enemies or hostile relationships, which is, in a way, how I maintain a network of safety despite it not being about actively building and expanding on a social network.

I was 90% sure I was a 1w9 until I saw this and now I am once again unsure... Both 1s and 6s seem highly idealistic and perfectionist... both can be a bit preachy... both have the capacity to care for others and seek harmony... when I was in a years long depression, I thought I was a 4... that points to 1 because when they go bad, they get melancholic. 4s have a high, almost idealistic sense of self which complicates things. But with 6 arguments, I could have felt so depressed, anxious, and avoidant because I didn't feel safe and didn't have a big support network... Ugh... lol, I am just curious about this, and it has given me an almost obsessive drive to solve this puzzle and know myself a little better, and just as I was damn near sure about something, something calls it into question. That's... very 6 seeming... but is it really?

I went through this as well. I thought I was a 9w1 and ended up being a 6w5. Two things suggested this: my inability to find certainty, making me read about the enneagram indefinitely; the second is how I deal with my inner tension and anger. At work (framing carpenter) when I'm burnt out, I can randomly explode. I'm just not able to keep it in, where a nine would hold in the tension. I think a nine would probably not read about the enneagram if it didn't make sense. 9's are simplistic and wouldn't want to invest the energy.

I took Katherine Fauvre's test today and got 6 for the first time ever. A former friend of mine thought I was a 5 and I always tested as 5. I resonated with the core fear of 5 (and even 8). I was so sure I was a withdrawn type, at least, so receiving 6 was a bit surprising. A countertype 6 at that. Dr LaHue's depiction of 6 was hilarious though.

The more I look at different types the more confused I get. I can see my self in a 6,7,8,9,2,1. Mostly a 9,8 and 6 are the strongest. I could be a 6 sp. I am very friendly, but I am also super stubborn when I get pissed. I'm also really good in a crisis and keep calm. I've had my family wonder how I'm calm and don't freak out. When I was working and wasn't in an authority position all my crewmates told me that if something where to happen they would listen to me and not the Mate. They told me they have confidence in my ability to lead and direct them when things go wrong and they aren't thinking clearly. It was really nice to hear. Though, I am like a 9 A LOT and like an 8 A LOT. Though I think the 8 is a wing for me. I'm definitely non confrontational for the most part.

I relate a ton to the 1, but in the past when I read sx7 I resonated so much that I immediately started calling myself a 7. If I am a 7, I'm a 7w6, so now I'm looking at 6 to see, am I a 1w2 of a 7w6? (Or a 3w2 like the quizzes always say. Sure, I said "strongly agree" on "I want to be successful." But THEY NEVER ASKED ME WHAT I DEFINE SUCCESS AS!) Anyway... I am having trouble focusing on the video because I'm tired and have already watched a lot about Enneageam today, but I relate. When someone dies, I don't seem to mourn much. It's like the feelings just never come. Though I've only had deaths of those I wasn't close to, or whom I was already mentally prepared for then to pass. The panic just never seems to come when I'm getting ready for something nerve-wracking, too, like a 5 day hike to reinact pioneer times when I'm overweight and recovering from a severe illness. (I was so desperate to go! I convinced myself I was better before I went. I was not! It was so worth it.) I'm rather matter-of-fact when others are panicing. And for some reason, I have an offline compass app and an offline wilderness survivial app in case I ever get lost in the woods (I rarely go camping, let alone go FAR AWAY from civilization. But I've heard so many stories of people who did!). I try to keep records of every letter I send to someone I love, and every letter I receive, in case I ever need to reference it. Granted, this is because I sent a letter to somebody when I was about 12, not expecting a response, and didn't save the word doc of the letter I sent, only to get a response months later and wish I'd kept the doc. I tried making a ltter to myself in case I ever get amnesia, but I never finished, and then realized who my friends were was changing so fast that it would be hard to keep up. When my family was watching a live stream of bears on their salmon run, I took mental notes on how to fish as a bear, in case I ever get magically turned into one. I take mental notes ALL THE TIME about what to do if I ever time travel. Like, if I get stranded in the past, or what to do when I meet my young self. I don't think that's normal. 😂 But I also panic a lot. I have PTSD and PMDD. Those seem to be the only things that cause panic for me, fortunately. Panic attacks and emotional breakdowns, anyway. (Perhaps not counting anything less than that as panic is faulty...) But I don't believe that truly indicates PERSONALITY. More of a body thing. For a long time, I've tried very hard to present myself as non-intimidating and approachable. It may be an sp6 thing? And I definitely feel like a thinker on the inside but act like a heart person on the outside. It has confused me a lot. I ACT like an ENFP 7w6 a lot, but I FEEL like an ENFJ 1w2 or 3w2. And then I get surprised that the crazy, animated, talkative, energetic, 7-like stuff has come out despite my best efforts to act responsible, trustworthy, and professional. Hence, why I'm researching deeper to figure out who I am on the inside. It's so hard with all the Enneagram types telling you that you do the same thing but for different reasons, and you're not sure which one or ones are true!! And you wonder if maybe the type you think you are is really what you try to be, and what you really are is something so subconscious that you haven't even noticed it. Or maybe you think you dont deserve to be called a certain type, but what if that IS your type? Are you avoiding it for some irrelevant, subjective, untrue, baseless reason? I also found I seem to adjust my presentation of myself in a way that seems to balance whatever is outside of me. Not always, but often. For example, if my friend is afraid of a spider, I act extra brave, as if I have no fears about them snd know exactly what I'm doing. Or if someone acts fearless about something, I feel like they haven't considered all the potential problems, and I act nervous, as if the probability of the bad things happening has increased just because the other person doesn't seem to think they are likely to happen. Feel free to give me your insights. I wrote this partially to ponder, partially to fish for insights from others, and partially to help me have someplace to record my thoughts so I can read them again later.

Well, I'm not sure, if I'm a sp or sx 6. I can relate to sx motivations, but the presentation is to aggressive. I admit having fear and being led by fear (to myself), but I often seem to others beeing fearless, but not strong or intimidating, I think. Somebody even described me as "A fire could break out here and you would just stand there shrugging your shoulders: I don't care, while everybody else is freaking out." Don't want to sound rude, but the so 6 description sounds disgusting to me. I can't stand it when someone believes in something so strongly, rigidly and stubbornly. And I can't stand traditions. I feel the temptation to rebel against it, but I remain calm on the outside while suppressing anger on the inside. Except with people I'm closed to, especially my father. I often argue with him.

I took the test and ugh it said I'm a 6 or 9. So I watched a few videos and found yours. I have strong traits in both of these types. I'm always learning, fearful of possible attacks, but I also tend to become, not part of, but meld into others likes and dislikes. As if I have no personality of my own.
