English Pronunciation Practice: SH & SHR

Listen and repeat: SH & SHR sounds. These sounds can be tricky to say correctly, even for some native English speakers. In this class, I’ll demonstrate how to shape your mouth to pronounce each of these sounds. You can listen to me pronounce words with ‘sh’ and ‘shr’ in them, and then practice on your own. www.engvid.com/english-pronun...

We in Sweden don't really use z expcept in words borrowed from English like zoo, and then we still pronounce it as s! I really find it hard to pronounce and also to remember when it's pronounced s and when it's pronounced as z.

  • @kinda4664
    @kinda4664 Жыл бұрын

    I would probably not recommend putting too much efforts into anything related to pronunciation. Success or no success -- just take it easy. But if you want to parctice on those, the best way I am aware of is to play with pair of words, like "shine-shrine", "drunk-shrunk", "dread-shred"... Yes, keep it playfully and have fun! That's the most important thing. Also, you don't need to thoroughly articulate 'R' in such words, don't need to separate 'Sh' and 'R'. They are really close in "phoneme mechanics". Just make sure 'Sh' is nice and soft, and just scratch the surface of the following 'R', give it a slightest touch, get a little taste of it. That's all you need.😊(Thanks again for the inspiration, Gill!)

Please reply

    Hello - it's best to keep the word order as simple as possible. Here are my suggestions: A book is lying on the table. There is a book lying on the table. A car is coming. Here is a car coming. I don't understand your sentence containing the word 'ram' - are you talking about an animal (male sheep)? :-)
