I might be in the minority, but I actually prefer this version of song. The feeling that Dan & John convey with their vocals plus the harmonies from the back-up singers touches my soul.

I prefer this arrangement as well and I'm a die-hard Rundgren fan.

I love this type of soft rock music from the 70's. England Dan & John Ford Coley had a lot of great hits such as "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", "Nights Are Forever Without You", "It's Sad To Belong (To Someone Else)", "Gone Too Far", "It's All Up To You", "We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again" etc.

Biz, you are correct. Peace must come from within. I was over 50 years old before I discovered this, so you are far ahead of me on this one. Good to hear some easy 70s pop music with a good message.

Met these two at a Baha'i convention back in the 70s, when I was a kid. They're a religous band, but they sang their message in the form of love songs,.,

I never knew Todd Rundgren did a version of this song, much less that he wrote it. Seeing people saying that they preferred him singing it, I checked it out. Note for note it sounded the same to me, with only Todds voice/delivery making the difference. I have long thought that when there is more than 1 version of a song, the 1 you know best & are used to is the 1 you like best usually & I’m not making any exceptions to that rule tonight. England Dan & John Ford Coley all the way for me, lol!

I really thought there was going to be "take me the Church!" Remark spilling out of you! I was ready! Where was it, Biz? I thought for sure it was coming. Anyway, I love it when you are really enjoying the music. This was a good one.

A poppy tune with fantastic vocals. His name is pronounced COley like COla!

There is no feeling like being at a Todd/Utopia concert and the whole audience singing along. For a short time you feel peace like it is possible.

Beautiful song, beautiful sentiment, back when we thought that was the answer. More cynical now.... Yes do more, they were wonderful.

"Light of the world" is Jesus, and I suspect He is still the answer but we still be trying to do it our way. But life does make it tough at times, and our choices sometimes make the road more difficult. The world becoming a big pile of doodoo doesn't help either. But still we fight the good fight Dawn! And yeah, these guys carved a nice niche in that era, and probably one of the more unheralded bands that don't get enough attention today.

I know soft rock because of my dad. He has cassette tapes of classics. Too bad cassette players are so rare now.

This was a big hit at my catholic girls hi school. I'm not saying we did a dance routine to it or anything ;)

I was a sophomore at an All boys Catholic HS when this came out. One of my teachers (bless him) played this for us in class for some reason. I was blown away and hooked

The todd/utopia version is better. Todd is one of the best songwriters ever

The Utopia version has more oompf to it. Thats why I like it best The two versions are basically the same so, neither is hard to listen to.
