I never even heard of Randy Jackson until American Idol came along. I remember hearing him talking about playing in Journey all the time. I didn’t even realize that Steve Smith and Ross Valory were gone. I actually like this lineup, though. Neal Schon is the only original member left in Journey. Steve Smith an Ross Valory were recently fired regarding them trying to get ownership of the band. They didn’t realize Steve Perry still gets paid by Journey. It was part of Journey deciding to continue on without him because he didn’t get hip replacement surgery quick enough for their liking. It was a contract they had to come to terms with for them going on without them leaving him. He received a huge amount from their first 2 albums they recorded after his departure. He gets a chunk of whatever merchandise they sell. He currently gets paid $800,000 a year while they’re still active. He has a net worth of 70 million dollars. For someone who’s been gone from Journey since like 1997, he’s making some great money. He says he doesn’t spend a lot of money. He has a nice home, but it’s not some kind of mansion. He’s never been married. So, he never had to worry about losing half of his things. He’s a smart guy.

Neal Schon, the guitarist, was 17 when he joined Santana on their third album. When Carlos got into the whole Jazz fusion thing with John McLaughlin, he and Santana's keyboard player decided to form their own band so they could keep on rocking. That band was Journey. What you saw here was the second incarnation of Journey.

Asia, I don't want to keep rubbing this in LOL but I was lucky enough to see this band twice and I can tell you on God that this band sounded so good life and so perfect that these musicians were top-notch and then the vocals and harmonies would just almost make anybody get tears in their eyes they were so good ! Part of the magic is that while the bandholz down vocal harmonies that are perfect it give Steve Perry room to sort of exercises voice and solo a bit on top of the harmonies is just amazing. And I noticed on this song that part of the magic that happens in here is the song actually modulates into a different key I would say the first part of a verse was in one key and then the second part of the same verse would modulate and then they're going to the pre chorus and the chorus and then come back in and to the original key not a lotta do stuff like that in their. But I want to say I'm thankful that I started watching you guys a long time ago and I'm also thankful that you guys get turned on by some of them same music that I thoroughly enjoy as well.

I mentioned this on another Journey reaction video, but I have more detailed information about the 1983 Journey video game : Journey is an arcade video game released by Bally Midway in 1983. Rock band Journey had enjoyed major success in the early 1980s, and Bally/Midway decided to ride this wave of popularity by creating an arcade game based on the group. Its release was intended to coincide with the band's US tour (for the Frontiers album, the cover artwork of which is used in the video game's main display screen). This game uses digitized photographs of the members of the band at the time: Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain, and Ross Valory. ~ Wikipedia The game's prologue explains the objective in the demo sequences (and presumably before each play session) : Wild alien groupoids have seized Journey's electro-supercharged instruments. Your mission is to help Journey retrieve their instruments from the dangers of the Five Galaxies. Trek through hazardous obstacles in quest of each instrument and then battle your way back to the Scarab vehicle. When all five missions are completed, Journey begins a spectacular concert at the Galactic Stadium. Journey plays their hit song while Herbie guards the stage from frenzied groupoids who are trying to take the instruments. Te Journey songs in this game for each of the levels are : Steve Perry, vocals - DON'T STOP BELIEVING (from the album ESCAPE, 1981) Neal Schon, guitar - CHAIN REACTION (from the album FRONTIERS, 1983) Ross Valory, bass - KEEP ON RUNNING (from the album ESCAPE, 1981) Jonathan Cain, piano/keyboards - STONE IN LOVE (from the album ESCAPE, 1981) Steve Smith, drums - WHEEL IN THE SKY (from the album INFINITY, 1978) Other in-game events : Planet Select Screen (choosing which level/band member to play) - FRONTIERS (from the album FRONTIERS, 1983) Losing A Life (failing the level) - WHO'S CRYING NOW (from the album ESCAPE, 1981) Planet Cleared (completing the level) - LIGHTS (from the album INFINITY, 1978) I have only ever played this game a handful of times back in the day (1983-1985) when it was at the local Safeway (grocery store) in my neighborhood, and I could never complete a single level. It was simple enough in concept, but near impossible in execution. Either the controls were set to be extremely sensitive, or the difficulty was jacked up (possibly both) to scam dumb indignant kids (like I was, lol) into feeding the machine more quarters.

My all time favorite Band and I’m a 53 year old Metal fan. In the 70’s and just getting into music Journey was the first band to blow my mind. Steve Perry of course

I saw Journey, Aerosmith, Sammy Hager, and Bryan Adam's for $14 in 1983. No pre recorded backing tracks and 15 years before auto tune.

Check this out. This was the first time they ever did this song live. This was opening night of the Raised On Radio Tour August 23rd 1986 at the Mountain Aire Festival Campground in California. You’d never know this was the first time playing it live and it was the first show with bass player Randy Jackson and drummer Frank Baird.

These dudes had a five, six, year run back in the late 70's and early 80's where they could do no wrong. Saw em in Lexington KY in Rupp Arena on the "Escape" Tour. Bout 28-29 thousand people jammed in there shoulder to shoulder and it was LOUD. Great show...

I am so lucky that I grew up in the age that I did. We went to almost every concert that would come around Philly. Back then in the 80s, ticket prices for concerts were only about 25 bucks. We didn't have to deal with scammers who buy all the good tickets up and then try to resell them for 300 and 400 and $500. Next to Pink Floyd Journey was probably one of my favorite bands to see live they were so amazing always sounded good crowds packed to the rafters. Boy do I miss those days I don't even go to concerts now when I see how much they cost, it's freaking ridiculous. Also fun fact did you know that the guy playing the guitar to Steve's right on the stage is Randy Jackson from American Idol? 🎉

Journey is just one of those bands where the stars aligned. The brightest of which was Steve Perry’s incredible voice. I enjoy watching other people react to their music almost as much as the actual music itself. Almost.:)
