This song epitomizes the power of 70's Soft Rock at its best. "Love Is the Answer" was written by Todd Rundgren (released by his band Utopia, in 1977.) In 1979, England Dan & John Ford Coley released their version, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Todd's originals have been amazingly eclectic. He was never content to just do soft rock, but the public pigeonholed him & wasn't interested in the other facets of his talent. He's done hard rock, progressive rock, musical satire, experimental electronic music, a capella, even a cover of a tune from a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta.

When I was leaving San Diego after finishing Marine Corps boot camp in 1979. I sat between these guys on the flight home. They introduced themselves as Dan and John and talked about how proud they were that I had stepped up to serve my country. During the flight, people stopped to ask them for autographs. It was a bit embarrassing because I had no idea who they were. As I was waiting to get off the plane. I asked a flight attendant who they were. I couldn't believe it. They were, England 'Dan' and 'John' Ford Coley. And were just regular people who made the conversation about me. Looking back I wonder if they were relieved that I didn't know them and were glad they didn't have to endure another awe struck fan gushing all over them for several hours. Quite the memory for this small town, Michigan kid.

Yeah it seems like back in the late '70s all kind of weird shit was happening in California, and stories like this don't surprise me at all, and actually would have almost been normal occurrences especially in those SoCal areas. For some reason always associate it with Cheech and Chong... but I know not all of it was just that kind of idiotic nonsense, right???

Great duo, They had several Big Hits, then Dan went on to become a country music star with many Big Hits. "Nights Are Forever Without You", On Dan's own "You Still Move Me" is made for the two of you!!!! "Rage On", "Meet Me in Montana" With Marie Osmond is another.

In the '80s, England Dan had some Solo success, but he went by his real name instead of the England Dan nickname give to him by his brother. For one of his hits as Dan Seals, he did a duet with Marie Osmond called "Meet Me in Montana."

We all could use a little more Love; always loved this song! Still so relevant to the world now; so uplifting! Todd Rundgren wrote this song decades ago & these 2 guys had a hit with it. England Dan & John Ford Coley were an American soft rock duo composed of Danny Wayland "England Dan" Seals and John Edward "John Ford" Coley, active throughout the 1970s. Native Texans, they are best known for their 1976 single "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight", a No. 2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a No. 1 Adult Contemporary hit. After they disbanded, Seals began performing as Dan Seals and launched a country music career through the 1980s which produced 11 No. 1 country hits. Seals was the younger brother of Jim Seals of the 1970s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. Dan's childhood nickname, given to him by his brother Jim, was "England Dan" because he was a fan of English rock band The Beatles. There was no girl doing the falsettos; that was John Ford Coley. RIP Dan Seals.

Great choice! Written by Todd Rundgren and originally recorded by Todd with his band Utopia, but this was the hit version and the one everyone remembers. One of *THE* best pop songs of 1979 (along with the Doobies' "What a Fool Believes"). Like you guys, I love how the song builds during the bridge, until they're wailing like the Righteous Brothers.
