James Eugene "Jim" Seals and Darrell George "Dash" Crofts, one of the best soft-rock duos of the 70s. This was probably their best known song (from 1972), but they also had "Hummingbird", "Diamond Girl", "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)", "I'll Play For You", and "Get Closer". All are great songs. The Bee Gees didn't have anything to do with the song, BUT the Isley Brothers did a cool cover of it two years later. Great choice!

This song is the essence of my memories of growing up in the 1970s...fragrance of the flowers in my mom's backyard, dinners in the kitchen, hanging out with my friends and sisters, riding my bike, walking to the park! SO many sweet smells and sounds of summer saturate my soul! Mom's warm hugs and sweet smells from the kitchen, wafting through the screen door! Carefree days of June, July, August and September! That's the true spirit of Summer Breeze! Classic! 😃💮

Yes, Amber is right! The instrument you didn't know is a xylophone. lt's a part of the percussion section, which is why you've seen them at football games, Jay! My family, my entire immediate, and extended family have all either played one, or multiple instruments, sing, or both! A bunch of them have gone on to be music teachers! This song was a bit before my time, but my dad always had music playing in the house. So much of the music I love has come from him! I cannot tell you how happy it makes me that you are exploring all of this great music and passing it on to your kids! I randomly ask our son who is singing the song that I have playing ... and 99.99% of the time, he gets it right! I wouldn't be doing my job as a parent if I didn't find some of my husbands and my music on his phone!

This song really evokes the feelings of Summer BEFORE we all lived in air conditioned homes, offices, and cars! The windows were open to catch those cooling breezes at the end of a typical, hot summer day. Great song full of good nostalgia for me. My husband and I married on Valentines 73, and drove from snow in Vancouver, down the Pacific Coast highway for our honeymoon, with this song and a few other faves on an 8 track in our car. Seal and Croft, CSNY, America, the Moody Blues, Joni Mitchell, Chicago, etc. all chillin' and a few like the Doors, Pink Floyd, for louder songs. We did drive down to San Diego, stopping along the way, lived the surf crashing in Oregon, just ran against the wind along the beach, singing along with every tune, and in love with everything is possible feelings. Glad you are enjoying theses tunes from probably the best eras of rock n toll. Enjoy your ride. These sweet songs are eternal.

Loved listening to Seals and Crofts as a kid growing up in the 70s. Another song from that era I know both of you will enjoy is "YEAR OF THE CAT" by AL STEWART. This is one of those songs you have to listen to at least once in your life. But then it's like only eating one potato chip, you will listen to it many more times. The song is roughly based on the 1942 movie Casablanca so far as it takes place in a tourist market place somewhere in Northern Africa. The song was released in 1976 but the riff was something that Al heard played by a keyboardist named Peter Wood practicing for a show at Royal Albert Hall in 1975. AL asked if he could use it to write a song and Peter said yes. By the way 1975 was the year of the cat on the Vietnamese zodiac calendar.

Came out in 1972. Some facts about the song: "Blowing through the jasmine in my mind"? Long before it was a Disney princess, jasmine was a kind of flower that blooms in the summer. Also good for tea, Seals & Crofts use it to bring about feelings of contentment and harmony in this song, which is a feel-good classic about enjoying some simple pleasures in life with the ones you love. Jim Seals explained in 1972: "We operate on a different level, we try to create images, impressions and trains of thought in the minds of our listeners." Seals & Crofts were devoted to the Baha'i faith, and believed that by writing about life itself, many meanings would emerge for the listener. In 1975, Seals told Melody Maker that "Summer Breeze" was "A very simple song about a man coming home from work and hearing the dog barking and things like that, and to a lot of people the song's about looking for security. Our meaning goes further than that, for a prison can be the prison of self and a person can become insecure and paranoid if he doesn't have a direction in his personal life."

L.A.B & Six60 are the biggest bands in NZ right now because they've gone back to their roots, real musicians playing real instruments, real singers and they're bringing back that old skool music we grew up listening too. The best example I can come up with is that they are played heavily in Tiki Lounge Music like Quiet Village by Martin Denny.

Yes, yes and YES. Lol. Love this one. Such great memories of my childhood. This is the epitome of how I remember it. "Sweet days of summer, the jasmines in bloom. July is dressed up and playing her tune".

Actually, I think its a wood block (or cowbell) and a muted guitar at the same time. Vibraphone rings out like a xylophone and a marimba sustains longer as well. The wiki doesnt mention any of those either.
