Brian Moore had so much class as a commentator. So much of his natural style has since become "commentator" style. His love for the game comes through, his warmth, his humility. He was one of the greatest.

@@peezebeuponyou3774 nah, I found Coleman a bit abrasive in his commentary. In the late 60s & early 70s when a goal was scored especially from a London team, Moore boy he got excited. The best for me then Barry Davies. Sinstadt was another who has finally left planet footy. Women commentators 🤮. Sorry gals.

Brian Moore couldn't be neutral unfortunately, he loved all the London teams and London based players and totally exaggerated when one did well, obviously making a fuss about Chivers (rightly) but not a mention of how poorly Peters and Hurst played. On another note, listen to him through this game, he made such a fuss about Jimmy Jonhstone every time he went near the ball (which, in truth was not very often)

I so agree with you, Brian Moore was a classic.

Classic games i just love them.

Really like this England kit and the Scotland kit for that matter. Always wish England played in simple white tops, aside from the three lions badge, with that turtleneck collar.

@@ay613 Well They're really a crewneck rather than a turtleneck.I don't see a great deal of difference with other styles with or without a collar.

when internationals were exciting to watch, also note how the tackles are strong and getting stuck in and players just getting on with the game , no fairies rolling around for the free kicks. the days when showing you were hurt to the opposition was a weakness , dont get mad , get even days.lol

I watched recently on KZread a game from the Asia Cup (their Euro Cup) China v Japan, there's a lot of history there like my Scot v Eng, & they were kicking lumps out of each other & tackling like Leeds Utd (c'mon Leeeeeds) look it up under most violent match ever..

Thanks for posting these old games. I was 8 when this was played and sitting here in Kuala Lumpur I'm loving the commentary, the orange panelled ball, the aggression, the kit, and little Jimmy Johnstone (Pat Nevin meets Mo Salleh).

@@duckjive1 subscribed a long time ago -- watched almost everything you've posted. My dad had a season ticket at WHL and although I'm a Waford man, went to a huge amount go first team, reserves and youth team games (the Hoddle years) at Spurs during the 70s. Grear times

That was some shift that Cooper put in there.; both in defence and attack. Hardly a frame where he isn't in shot. Btw; I watched this with the sound muted and enjoyed it as a commentator-free experience. Thanks for downloading.

Bright orange balls were very fashionable in the early 70s. I remember the one for the 1973 cup final between Sunderland and Leeds. They only lasted for a couple of season then disappeared.

Whyen footballers wore their shirts tucked in their shorts! LOL! Glad these matches have been uploaded....great to watch the game played properly...the only diving done by the keepers!

In terms of the weather what a contrast at Wembley 2 weeks earlier it was sunny at the FA Cup Final between Liverpool and Arsenal with the white ball while here it was cloudy with the orange ball

First goal was obviously not a goal and I don't know what Jimmy Hill was talking about, saying the Ref used his discretion. There is no discretion when the rule is very clear. Not sure why Scottish players didn't complain more. Perhaps they realised that not only would it have been a penalty but they would have been down to 10 men. Scotland showed a lot of huff and puff for the first 15 minutes or so but England were a class above. As a Spurs fan it was great to see Chivers during his prime (a time I remember well as the 70s was my era.) Unfortunately it was at a time that England went through some difficult years so he never won anything with them.

Bobby Moore head and shoulders above everyone else on the field. Real world class player during this period

Not sure about that one. Ramsey should really have been building for the future after Mexico 1970. It's always difficult to build a team in any era - but perhaps the class of '66 and '70 were past their sell-by dates; the likes of Ball, Peters, Moore and Hurst. Banks still looked as good as ever - shame about the accident which ended his career in 1972; but it did give Ramsey a chance with Ray Clemence and Peter Shilton.

Really not seeing Brian Moore's logic over the first goal. No, the ball didn't cross the line, but it was deliberately punched off the line by a defender, when it was definitely about to go in. The defender would be sent off, feet wouldn't touch the ground, for that today. England would still have had a penalty, so probably would have scored still. And attempting to deny an opponent a goal through cheating means there is no 'bad luck' to point to if the goal is awarded anyway.

Brian Moore was perfectly sound on the first goal ... it should not have been given it never crossed the line ... by the rules of the day it was a penalty and the player who handled it would have remained on the pitch ... The penalty may have been scored or may have been missed ... either way Scotland should have had a second chance to save the goal

The days when if they bothered to wear goalie gloves, they wore those council issued work gloves. Well, in local leagues they did.

Ball with white boots in 71, kin ledge. Poxy back header though for the 1-1.

I'm not a Celtic fan by any stretch , saw my first Aberdeen game in 71. But I reckon the Celtic starting 11 with Jock Stein in charge would have given England a much better game than that 11 did. Some strange team selections (2 from my home town club for a start).

And yet a lot of the lisbon lions didnt win many scotland caps like craig and clark and chalmers ..... as a rangers fan i cant understand that sad that wee jinky had about 28 caps lol total scandal... i remember reading that jimmy said he never really enjoyed playing for scotland because too many scots fan wer against him because he was a celtic player

Martin Chivers. The poor guy got constant stick if he hadn't scored every five minutes. He was a quiet guy & rarely done interviews tho Brian Moore had this thing about him like he was from the planet Mars. Chivers! One nil!

Big Chiv playing 24 times for England 🇬🇧 to of those as a substitute + scored 13 Goals - my Dad told me he took me as a baby 👶 along with him to an under 23 game vs Italy at Nottingham in 67 and who scored - You Guest it Chivers - who on his day was world class - with hindsight I believe had we made it to W Germany in 74 , Alf would have stuck by him an who das devil could possibly now know ??? . Oh yeah 1 - 0 by the way or so I'm told 🤔 .

@@mohdazmi10 Same can be said of Sir Alf Ramsey. After failing to beat Poland and qualify for the '74 World Cup he never managed England again.

This England line up showed the problems Ramsey had for 74 really. So many of the players chosen here were through one reason or another well past it by 74 or in the case of Banks and Cooper basically finished by injuries. Probably only Mcfarland could have been a guaranteed shoe in for the World cup of 74 looking at this game 3 years earlier.

Although you could say the same about Scotland. They qualified in '74, but only Bremner survived from this game. I think England were probably unfortunate to come up against a strong Poland side that actually finished third in that WC.

@@peezebeuponyou3774 Poland at the time was the 1972 Olympic gold medalist / champion. I still remember Brian Clough said before the Poland match away that England would not have problems beating Poland (a way of underestimating opponents) but he was wrong.

@@mohdazmi10 I distinctly remember at Half-Time Clough saying "relax- we'll win the match". He also called the Polish keeper a clown. Wrong on both counts...

Moore mentions Scotland's attacking line-up but England fielded Chivers, Hurst, Lee... Born in 70s so am catching up on these internationals. By the time I got into football only Keegan really of this generation was still playing. This was start of a talented lost generation with Eng not qualifying for 74/76/78 WC/Euros; while Sco can only dream of players like Bremner (predictable dissent booking) & Law.

You Scots need to learn, you might win a battle, you lost the war and always will!

I don't think England have ever had a great specialist left-back. Martin Peters would have been the best. The backs who are good defenders, are, in my opinion bad players because they are not very good going forward and spend their time as extra ‘cover’ in defence or merely to watch out for opposing midfielders making a break down the flanks.

Dlamiss but Sir Alf Ramsey still have faith in his 1966 World Cup winners in this match with Scotland at Wembley and won 3-1.And England were unbeaten throughout 1971but hadn't had a competitive game for five months since England beat Greece 2-0 in Athens in December 1971 prior to the two leg Nations Cup quarter final ties with West Germany.

England in fact were the better team that day in the 1971 Home Championship match with "Auld Enemy" Scotland at Wembley winning 3-1.

That England team had a lot of survivors from 66 !! Maybe they rested on their success of 66 instead Changing . A year later in the European championship Germany became the team to beat and in 74 no England at the world cup dumped out by Poland in the qualifiers .

Why are there lines?

This was the time when the then Scottish manager Bobby Brown was sacked and replaced by Tommy Docherty after Scotland failed to qualify for the later stages of the 1972 European Championship

As a Scotsman i'm loving watching full re runs of the 1971 and 1975 games any chance you could put up the Scotland wins of 1974 and 1976

quite amazing watching the standard in these yesteryear matches, this match is like watching the ladies football of today. I guess the pitches in those days didn't help the quality, but its still surprising

The quality of yesteryear football is different compared to the present one. Heavier balls heavier pitches and rougher football. Here in Malaysia we used to play in muddy paddy field pitches and never complained a thing. We enjoyed the football. Tell this to our sons now and they will be heavily surprised.

Commentator totally over hyping johnstone, apart from a couple of dribbles that went nowhere he did nothing, he didn't even have a touch for 2 fifteen minute periods in the first half, he was probably a good player in the scottish league though, the other winger had a better game than Johnstone. Scotland management smoking in the "dugout" :-) Chivers totally dominating both scotland centre backs What a little sh*thouse bremner was, he was totally outplayed by Story. Altogether an easy win for England even though Peters, Hurst and Lee were very poor

I certainly thought Peters and Lee were poor. Ugh, that awful dirge - "Welcome ho-a-ome, wey-a-elcome, come on in and close the door..." They knocked Slade off the number one spot. Never forgave them for that!

Both goalkeepers in this game were wearing gloves. Gordon Banks' were pretty obvious.
