There has to be a little bit of Australian pride in using a Barra, it's kind of criminal they stopped making them. It doesn't matter if it's not this or that, it is Australian!

Great idea using a Ford Barra motor in a Toyota Land Cruiser because the Barra is a very reliable motor as good as Toyota how many are still driving around plenty and in your maintenance you did on your Barra motor you future proofed the engine and l never realised that the Barra was so cheap at $900 and all the kits for relocating the alternator l can understand your reasoning in using a Barra motor with the ease of getting parts for it also Minty has obviously bean restored

@@40ChannelCruiser l like to say how do you make a British classic car reliable put a Toyota engine in it l do like any Toyota including my 1997 Hilux it's converted me into a Toyota fan boy when l bought it for $1500 5 years ago l didn't realise what l had bought but after looking on Google and KZread l found out that l have a very reliable ute its a keeper but l don't mind anybody putting a very reliable Ford engine in a Toyota

I used to have a 1963 ford falcon. It was a great car. I owned it in 1990. Drove it every day. Never had any problems with it. I hope your motor goes together with out to many issues

Haveing worked for ford for almost 10 years they are a great engine bullet proof cant go wrong really. I probably would have recommended doing the Welch plugs though.

Thanks for the advice, where the welch plugs an issue? I still have time to change them out while the motor is still out, I have a choice of Stainless or Brass?

@40ChannelCruiser I'd go for brass they weren't an issue if the coolant had been routinely changed. I'd swap them out, especially the one at the back of the motor, having seen the gunk near the water pump.

Get the turbo inlet manifold. Creates soon much space and is clean as. Allows access to fuel rail as well

F ound O n R oad D ead I'm not a fan of Ford. You see a lot on the road around the USA. I'm Toyota all the way. But I will watch the build just because it's a 45😅

I know I have never been a Ford man myself, But as far as engine conversion go for low cost, and reliable I can't go past the Barra Motor. It would be the only Ford motor I would pick.

~$1k in engineering costs to install a ~$1k engine, hope you're splashing on a turbo for it?

  • @40ChannelCruiser

Yes Engineering cost are just over the 1k, not Turbo as it will add to the cost of the build. Maybe down the track?

Being from the US, I didn’t know what a barra was. Seems like a good candidate for a swap.
