stellaris is hands down one of the most addicting games i've ever played. though it is kind of under developed in some ways :(

Mos paradox games focus on irl stuff whether it be historic simulators or city management. The closest stellaris gets to realism is humanity uniting under the United Nations in the future, and that’s more of a reference to the “United Humanity” trope in sci-fi than an actual belief the UN will become the de facto ruling body for a spacefaring Humanity

The space in my mind is bigger.

The Prethoryn Swarm are more directly inspired by the Tyranids from warhammer 40k, While the Contingency are basically the Reapers from Mass Effect. The Extradimensional Invaders are, according to the Villains Wiki, anyways, based on the Devidians from Star Trek. Having never watched or played anything Star Trek related, I'm gonna take that one at face value.
