Victoria 3 is Kinda Bad...

Ойын-сауық

Before watching, note that I've played more than 20 hours of the game since beginning this video, and I've gotten better at certain things about the game, like the economic systems. But anyway: Victoria 3 is a big disappointment. And it's not that great. This is why I think why. Like and sub' bro.

No it's still pretty awful. The diplomacy and warfare are super bad, literally every country plays the same and the economics is just construction queue and open/close trade routes. Nearly every system in the game is extremely shallow. Performance is horrendous post-1900. Every country plays the game besides the starting point. All the laws, politics and popular demands/uprisings are blatantly modeled around current day leftist woke socialism. Declared interests is a failed mechanic (westernization worked better, flawed as it was) that turns every great power into world police that disallow any player aggression. You could fairly describe the game as trying to increase your GDP. It's legitimately the worst game they have ever made and what makes it even worse is all they had to do was improve on Vic 2, add a little depth and balance, some QoL changes, streamline the UI and controls. But instead they carved out mechanics and systems, simplified everything, hid the map tiles and units, took away warfare from the player and gave it to very dumb AI, and it's bug-ridden even months later. A rose by any other name.

In my opinion with 24 hours on the game, these are the things I've noticed. The diplomacy system makes no sense, for example boosting opinion in the German states doesn't matter because if they see you as a threat, even though you have no infamy and they are in your market, they will refuse to join you, the feeling system works, is completely random, and there isnt even military access anymore. Regarding the economy, its very boring, you build and you build, you make a new trade route, and you delete a useless one, over, and over, and over again. Warfare is atrocious, they removed the single thing every single paradox game in this format has had, micromanagement of individual armies/units. It's a very mediocre game, they made things look complicated but they really just dumbed everything down and made it repetitive, there is no variation, and the AI has not even one braincell

I think I finally realized why I'm so bored in vic3. Where's the news system? Yeah, it was annoying having 15+ newspapers eyeing you down, with the ocd in the back of your brain screaming at you to open and read all of them while you fight a 2 front war. But it was still, charming. I could have constant updates in a very easily readable form that told me (more or less) the most important events that had happened recently. While there was u.i. that showed you everything going on, newspapers trimmed it down to "Prussia & U.K. against Austria" or smth. In Vic3, the only information you get is lil popups that come and go quicker then my uncle on holidays and visual info, as seeing the UK reach D.C. for second time with the help of Mexico. This coincides with my compilate overall that I have shared with many of my friends, which is that many of the features in vic2 should have been vanilla features here, but instead most likely are still behind some dlc later down the line.

I can confirm that you only need to fight one war to form Germany, the war against Austria to become the only candidate allowed to form Germany. After that, you can use bank rolling to get obligations from minor nations to make them join your custom's union. After getting nationalism and pan nationalism, they might ask to be annexed, but if you get them to be at least cooperative towards you, you can just click a button to annex them all at once with no infamy.

All vic 3 has good is just what they didn't change from vic 2, everything different about the economy or diplomacy just make the systems more shallow and less robust. They just can't save Vic3 when they're admitting themselves that theyre too lazy/inept to make individual units of goods work in the engine, an essential part of economic simulation.

Expanding on the war, I played a game as Colombia and had, several times, my troops attack the objectively better equipped and entrenched enemies as opposed to the much weaker and less defended enemies. All we had to do was figure the Ecuadorians, but my general insisted on attacking the Hondurans instead. As well, a nation capitulating immediately makes you lose military access, so in some cases, you need to purposefully hold back so that you don't lose access to the front. The inability to control fronts and specifically allot troops is also stupid, and makes no sense. And finally, all this could be solved by giving the player more than three options when assigning a general. Being able to give more specific orders (target cities, ports, armies, etc) and maybe even make it so that you can try and set time limits, like ordering your general to take a city by a certain date. Should the army complete the task it gets a morale boost, and the opposite should they fail. Like how Mussolini can give orders to you in Hoi4, but instead it's you giving orders.

Construction takes iron. So if you build and iron goes into the red, you should probably build an iron mine first. Traders can take your iron too. Tho it really just drives up the price (until it gets 75%+ expensive which is where shortages start). Being short things is actually a good economic stimulator too, as when you build that iron mine it will for sure make a profit selling at a high price. And conversely having an oversupply of some things, like wheat and other notable pop consumables, is very good for quality of life for your pops. But bad for business, so it's a constant balancing act. Ive found the game is working mostly as intended supply/demand wise.

I’ve been really enjoying it (when it isn’t crashing or going at a snails pace). My GDP as the US is currently at 1.4 billion and still growing, my armies are untouchable, my navy rules the waves, I am at the lowest tax rate while having military and government spending maxed and still making £500k a week. My tip to unleash the potential of your economy is to have all buildings on autoupgrade, have your construction capacity be as close to your capitalists contribution so building most things is free, and puppeting/conquering for resources you don’t have (late game I have done an America moment and invaded Iraq for oil 😅). Use the market tab and sort by the comparison to the base price, and build buildings that will bring the price of things down, along with buildings that provide the input resources. For the military, it’s ok to go in debt while at war in order to raise conscripts and win as fast as possible. Build up your navy and pay attention to if your convoys are being sunk, it will make attrition skyrocket. I like the game, but they reeeeeally need to iron some things out and optimize it.

So as someone who has formed Germany twice now. I’ve been able to form it within 20 years of the start of the game with only needing to launch 2 wars to do it. First was a German supremacy war against Austria to lock them out of being a cultural contender to form Germany, and the second was a war vs Hanover and a few other small German holdouts who during a unification play. What was pretty cool about this play through is that I was able to convince Bavaria, Saxony, and a few more powerful German states to support me in both war to form Germany because I had amazing relations with them, so it felt like these nations truly supported me as there unifier. Also I will add that I needed to launch a war later on, after I formed Germany, in order to take Alsace-Lorraine from the French.

Forming Germany as Prussia is MUCH more of any up hill battle than Austria. Honestly it makes Prussia not really worth playing unless you wanna larp. usually if you just get hesse-kessel in your customs union it cuts the Rhineland off of the Prussian market which will usually knee cap them. Then just use all of your free, free nation WG on prussia in the first leadership war. Then wait for then to fall to major power, and instantly dec with the unification play. Ive done this 4 times now just to test its consistency and it worked every time. Gonna be real German unification is a joke and MUCH less interesting than VIC 2

The economy system is fun, i just wish playing different countries had more of a dofferent effect on your gameplay. You want to play Sokoto in Africa? Cool thats the exact same game youd get playing Siam. Theres hardly any regional activities besides a few scripted disasters that will hurt your economy for a bit. Also the major power AI is completely unpredictable. As the Sikh empire I invaded the East India Company with BRITTISH SUPPORT when I aimed to conquer their lands! My biggest issue with the whole game is that I, as a (sometimes) democratic freedom lover, with lassie faire economics, am building EVERY individual farm factory and mine. Same thing goes for import export routes. If I have free trade why cant my capitalists make their own private import export routes that I have no control over??? As the most free country in the game you still are authoritarianly marching into tools workshops and telling them to change their production methods? Even if it bankrupts the industry? Makes sense MAYBE in a uber communist super direct economy but buildings should consume what they need to produce things most efficiently BY DEFAULT!

I feel like the market is way different than vic 2. Vic 3 doesnt have that public market like vic2, they're all seperate. So if you are building and you need iron, you are only taking it from your market. If theres none left, you get no iron, price spikes, and then you mustale a trade route to a different market that has iron or build that resource yourself. If you look at your budget, construction is a seperate expense, which can be paid for by investment pool of your rich pops (depending on your laws). So building does make your economy lose money, but it should be temporary and worth it once you build and staff the building. You can do this wrong in so many ways tho, particularly by expanding your construction capacity too much or building the wrong thing.

I find it weird how you talk about construction in Vicky 2, a summary saying, "the more you produce in your country, the cheaper and more efficient you can construct" as if that somehow better but you could basically say exactly the same thing about vic3. The more wood (or any construction good) you have, the cheaper and more efficient it is. And that's it. You say it's limited by how many pounds you can burn, but not really, it's also limited by your resources, because if you build too much without resources, it'll become expensive, and if it's too much, there will be a shortage. Actually in Vicky2 does constructing even become more expensive if you don't have the resources? Or you just need to wait for there to be resources on the world market? I remember being a lower power in Vicky2, wanted to build a factory, but don't have machine parts, so... I guess I have to wait for there to be on the market, that's it. There's nothing you can do but wait for machine parts to fall down to your rank. Can't even buy them for a premium.

I would argue against a westernisation mechanic in vic3, the vic2 system is just bad forcing you to conquer a large amount of land and hoping the country you declare on isn't in a sphere to westernise or waitting a long time, it really boring to play and is just a bad system overall

Ports give a little infrastructure and generate convoys. Railroads give a lot more infrastructure and generate transport for adding it to industries. Convoys are needed to level up trade routes that go over the seas. High level trade routes move more goods. When you do a trade it will tell you an estimated number of needed convoys.

Victoria 3 internal politics actually make no sense. Was playing as an absolute monarch and I could enact laws only when the faction that supports it was in government (?? I thought I was the government ??) or when the monarch's ideology allowed it. Ok, fair enough, but then you have to go through a debate process where your law can stall (Am I not the absolute monarch? Is this instead a parliamentary monarchy?). Then I played as a parliamentary republic and I can enact the same laws whenever I want and easily ban parties from government just like I could as an absolute monarch (lmao). In other words, the many options for laws make ZERO difference in your gameplay and they make no sense. This is a significant step down from Vic 2.

The only thing I disagree with is the final section. Your construction cost is decided by the price of your construction sector's input goods/labor. Having more consecs increases the number of goods/labor used. Having the input goods of your consec's be undersupplied and overpriced increases cost. It's fairly intuitive. Same thing applies to industry (price of inputs/outputs determines profitability and wages) and pop consumption (consumer goods with high cost are harder to buy, making pops poorer). Doesn't mean it's good. The economy is unplayable for me without like 10 UI mods. Also managing over 100 construction points just becomes a chore and the autobuild function is crap. It's the one thing that kept me from playing into the late game even after 50 hours in game.

If you play your cards well you can form Germany in one or two wars. From the formation tab you can launch a leadership play to become the leader of the German confederation. From there smaller German countries within your market will start fedetating with you (that is - joining you). Appart from that you can also launch, form the formation tab, a unification play - one big war against all non-frendly German countries at the end of which, assuming you're victorious, you'll be able to form Germany. This plays simularly to the Austro-Prussian war of our timeline.

Espiocracy- made by the guys who have the same publisher as terra invicta. Its a cold war intelligence agency grand strat. The great war mod makers for hoi4 also are making their own game about ww1. This is just off the top of my head too. Map games aren't just a pdx thing. Its just pdx is the triple A map game maker.

To Form Germany, only one war ist a must. To fight Austria as german unify contender. Step one research nationalism. Step two Start bankrolling and increase relation with Nord german states. Step three wait for Hannover to leave british market Step four form North germany Step five if you want try to get schleswig and holstein, if you are strong enough and denmark isolated they give you a state without a war. And then it becomes really flexible. Maybe research pan nationalism and form germany only with one war against Austria. My option was to start a war with Austria and annex bohemia and mähren (top states) Then start bankrolling south germany. If you are lucky, every remaining german country supports you and you are able to form germany without a war. In my case, only Hamburg does Not support me, Austria supports hamburg. But it Was a fast war with bavaria and russia on my side. I think 1846 i reach my goal with only two wars and no war against french. Way better then in vic 2, where you always needed alsace. In vic 3 you need 19 german states, youre choice which states.

Hold up conservatives in US oppose slavery? That is opposite of history "Abraham Lincoln was the first president elected by the newly formed Republican Party"wikipedia 1. Conservatives were big on constitution, slavery was against constitution because it prevented slaves having rights, owning property and pursuit of happiness, liberty and prosperity 2. Conservatives had their core in the north, specifically industrialized cities, there slavery wasn't economical hence didn't exist. Therefore removing slavery hinders their slaveowning opponents and earns them brownie points among anti-slavery constituents. 3.Because conservatives had stranglehold on the north anti-slavery activists got into power by joining the conservatives which shifted the party toward anti-slavery, think modern day progressive left like AOC and Sanders shifting democrats progressive (except no because they immediately sold out to establishment)
