Tasha, I am a 60 year old man and this too is my favorite song of all time. It has special meaning to me and my eyes water as I listen to it these many years now. I remember well the early afternoon in August of 1980 when my parents dropped me off at my university dorm and they helped me move in my things and clothes. Things were moving too fast for me. As I looked at my mother she would look at me and smile and whisper to me, "its going to be alright", the way only a mother can reassure her child. As she put my things away and they were leaving, dad said I have one more thing for you son and he went out to the pick up and brought me a brand new radio. As we hugged and said our goodbyes I saw them pull away and disappear in the distance. I went back into my room, laid belly down on my bed and looked out the window and turn on the radio, the song that started was, yes, you guess it, "Sailing". My eyes started to water and all I could see was my mother saying to me, "Its going to be alright". After all these many years, this song is still my favorite song of all time. RIP mom and dad.

Man, This had me tearing up…When I was a young kid, my mother, now deceased, used to have an old Chevy with a manual transmission shift on the steering column. She would drive the HELL out of that car. My mom would listen to country music stations only in her car. This song would come on often and she would crank it up while we’re flying down the highway with the windows down. This is really making me miss her so much. Great memory.

I remember hearing this song on the radio and being mesmerized when I was a little kid. Cristopher Cross' voice is so unique and beautiful. In interviews Cristopher Cross talks about "sailing" being a metaphor for art and creativity (drawing, sculpture, painting, music, film making, etc.) that sets us free. Transcendent beauty takes us to another...higher place. We are closest to The Creator when we are creating and enjoying creativity. Great reaction. 🙂

I'm old enough to have heard this song when it first came out but what solidified my love for it was that it was a song piped into my earphones on my first airplane trip when I was 18. I was traveling across the country on an adventure with my best friend. It was the late 70's, almost 80's. I wasn't from a well off family so airplane travel was not something we did. The song comforted me as I was sailing way above the clouds over 30,000 feet, a little scared but excited. It will always be an innocent song of adventure, that comforted me. Much older me, today. I am a very, very nervous flyer. If they'd pipe this through my earphones, maybe I'd be okay.

"Sailing" reminds me of being at the beach with my friends right after we graduated in 1982, since we had it on tape and played it quite a lot. It takes me back to a simpler time and reminds me that music itself is the thing that "takes me away" and has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I heard it. I have so many favorite songs, but a couple of the prettier ones are "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" by Simon & Garfunkel and "Time" by The Alan Parsons Project. I think Tasha would love both.

Such a great song, on an even greater album. Brings me back to my Navy days, on the bridge in calm seas, at sunset... beautiful. .

Very underrated musician! Chris Cross is really, really good. Can really play guitar, too. I, too, absolutely LOVE this song! I'm both a sailor and retired Navy, but this reminds me of the very first time I was sailing...it was the most magical thing I eve experienced.

This is one of my favorites as well. Good reaction. I don't know why this song makes everyone feel the same way, but it does. The power of music, I guess.

This came out in '79. I remember 'Sailing' on the car radio when I was driving. Christopher Cross has some great songs, but I always loved this the most. Great Epic songs from 1970: 1. 'Me and Bobby Mcgee' by Janis Joplin written by Kris Kristofferson. 2. 'If you could read my mind' by Gordon Lightfoot (about his divorce)

Although best known for his vocals, Cross's guitar-playing is such that it once led to an unfulfilled invitation to play with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan. He also played guitar during a Deep Purple concert in 1970 when Ritchie Blackmore fell ill shortly before the show.

My wife and I fight about who’s favorite song this is. I said that it is mine, but she’s says, no that it is hers. Every time I hear this song it gives me goosebumps and it does take me away and make me happy/smile, even for just a few minutes.

As to your final comment - favorite song all time - that's a tough one. So many great songs that are just so powerful and moving. There's no one song that is my fav all time. But there are two songs specifically that are THE most special and moving to me: Like A Rock by Bob Segar. This was my dad's spirit song. This was his song - he lived and breathed this song, and everyone that knew him knew that this song was about him. This was his theme song anthem. I say was, because the Valkyries carried him home in 2013 to dwell in the mighty company of his forefathers. The other one is "Into the West" by Annie Lennox. This is the closing credits song to The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. I fell in love with these books as a boy back in the mid 80s, and changed my life and opened me to joy of fantasy fiction. Tolkiens work has been so powerful and moving to me and shaped me in many ways. The movies were well....phenomenal. My father fell in love with the movies having never read the books, and they became "our movies." I took him to each one, and once a year afterwards we would dust off the DVDs and watch them all. When I hear Annie singing this now, it takes me back and I reminisce on how lucky I was to have such a strong loving relationship with my father. He was like a rock, and he was my best friend.

So, I was 18 years old, just out of Navy bootcamp and in the school to teach me my Navy job, 1980, Dam Neck Virginia. This song would play on the radio and all I could think of was what it was going to be like to actually be out at sea on a US Navy ship. I came to find out and it was awesome. This song takes me back there every time I hear it...

I remember back in 2009 I was on a solo cross country road trip from the East coast to the West and back again when my grandmother suddenly unexpectedly passed when I was a few days away from returning home. I heard the news from my brother on the phone just as I had turned into a motel for a hot shower and a bed and was about sleep. I was too tired and exhausted to process everything so I slept on it. The next morning, on the road, it hit me hard. I was bawling my eyes out as I was driving but I eventually got better and had dried my eyes and stopped the short breaths. Just as I had gotten out of that cry THIS song , "Sailing" by Christopher Cross, came on the radio and yep.... I was crying AGAIN for the next 5-10 minutes. I laugh about it now only because the timing of the song coming on was so perfect it was almost surreal, its like "c'mon I was just done with crying for the day..."
