I'm my moms youth, her best best friend was Sandy. Sandy went with Craig Frost who played first in GFR, then with Bob Seger...She had stories...All I'm gonna say.

This song is a work of absolute genius. I love how you said "made you nostalgic for a time that you never lived in.". And I love how you immediately noticed that it is a multidimensional song -- the firt part a reminiscence on youth and sexuality and thrill-seeking, thematically linked to Summer, and the second part reflective, older, middle-aged even, and Autumnal. This song is really about the whole life cycle to me -- in infers or implies birth, youth, maturity, ripening, aging and death. Such powerful and profound poetry, wrapped up in a totally danceable rock tune. Kudos to the two of you for really appreciating it so totally and so quickly.

Old Time Rock & roll was written by Muscle Shoals Song writer, George Jackson who had just finished writing a song for a kid named Michael Jackson. Across town at FAME STUDIOS, Rick Hall beat everyone one to the punch. He produced Jackson's song called one Bad apple which sold millions for the Osmonds. George wasn't happy but he still made a lot of money from it! . After the legendary Barry Beckett fumbled on the intro of Old time Rock and roll. After a skull session, they decided to leave Barry' little Stutter on the record. The song wouldn't be as good without it.

This song gets deeper and sadder with each listen. When it feels like he's not just talking about youth and memories but how we all get older, and it's slow and creeping like a storm you can't do anything about but accept, that's just how life comes at you. Even when we're all pulled in at the beginning of our youths, just like the song.

The thing about Bob Seger is nearly all of his songs are telling a story, but the story is always about the emotions experienced. He doesn't even really name the emotions; he just lets the music and lyrics make you feel the emotions. He's genius. The other thing I get from every one of his songs is a tenderness and respect towards humanity and the human experience. I just wrote four paragraphs trying to explain how his songs make a listener feel about people, then I erased it. I couldn't describe, in hundreds of words, what he did in a handful of words.

Bob Segar is the best story teller singer ever I think. A bit rock, a bit country, a bit blues. He epitomizes the fusion of how the blend and evolution of music styles and genres influenced one another and formed a new one. Bob was one of my dad's favorite artists of all time. "Like a Rock" was his anthem "spirit song". You'd no doubt recognize it from the Chevy Truck commercials. This is my favorite song by far. Such a crowd pleaser. I sang and played the drums to this song at work for talent show we did - my buddy Ben played the acoustic guitar. You know who hated it? no one. LOL Bob Segar has SOOO many hits, and many of his songs are found in commercials or movies.

Seger's tunes always invokes memories of what we all went through as we grew into adulthood. 'Like a Rock', 'Night Moves', 'Turn the Page', 'Against the Wind', 'Still the Same'; even 'Old Time Rock n Roll'. It may have been directed to those of us that came of age in the 70's, but his music has endured the test of time, for sure. Glad you like him! My wife and I sure do. I'm willing to bet, that if you ask her, she'd say "Bob" (said with a wistful lilt in her voice :) was her favorite of the era... Well... maybe 1-2 with Elton John. :)

“I woke last night to the sound of thunder How far off I sat and wondered Started humming a song from 1962 Ain't it funny how the night moves When you just don't seem to have as much to lose Strange how the night moves With autumn closing in” It took Bob just one evening to write Night Moves but 6 months to finish one of his greatest songs, “Night Moves,” with these final lyrics added at the end. “with autumn closing in” is chilling now that I am so much older. My absolute favorite song….

Seger a great story-teller, great lyrics, great musicianship, great arrangement, a R&R classic. Your reaction is perfect also, just the right amount of comments, and the right amount of visibility and energy and expression on your part! Thank you!

I have seen Bob Seger 4 times and each time was the BEST. I'm 62 years old and I had his albums laying around. My 17 year old son found "Silver Bullet Live" and he was a FAN. His favorite song, other than Night Moves, was "turn the page" Music knows NO boundaries. Great reaction.

Check out Bob's song "Main Street", he is an incredible live artist, so check anything off his "Live Bullet" album, he covers Ike & Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits" on that album, but "Bo Diddley" is my favorite on that album, it's a pure rocker.

Bob's songs are like a fine wine that get better with age, As others have said these song now have a different slant to them as you age. At 54 now these songs take you back to your lost youth cause you do sit there and think where has the time gone. His song like a rock really drives that point home these days.

This is such a compositionally interesting song because it does something very uncommon for popular music tunes. It has a breakdown, then comes back in a completely different key and tempo. It's completely seamless and an inspired decision.

Thank You for doing this song, my all time favorite. I'm from Detroit, where Bob is from, I've seen him in concert about 15 times, the first in 1980, the last in 2019, he was just as good as he was 39 years before. If you haven't done Ramblin Gambling Man yet, try that, Glen Frey of the Eagle's singing back up, recorded in 65 released in 68. Bob Dryer also helped write The Eagles -Heartache Tonight.

What a classic piece of music! I love that y'all got it on the very first listen! Most other reactors make a big deal about the meaningless sex in the back seat, as if that was all the song was about. Yes, "...with Autumn closing in." is a brilliant metaphor for getting older and remembering the good ole days. This is so real... from an old dude who remembers his own night moves in a '64 AMC Rambler! ;-]
