Embrace your third-act | Mary Walsh | TEDxToronto

Old age isn't 'past our prime'. It is our prime. Comedian Mary Walsh argues that it's time to re-define our third act in life: that elder-hood is the best moment of our life, when we get a chance to really know ourselves, and have the freedom to follow our heart's desires. Mary Walsh is a Canadian actress well-known for her role in creating and starring in This Hour Has 22 Minutes. She is the recipient of the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s Lifetime Achievement Award in the Performing Arts. Mary is an outspoken advocate for mental health and addiction awareness. Among the many charities and organizations she supports are the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health in Ottawa, the Canadian Institute for the Blind, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

My dear Ms Walsh. About 40 years ago I sold you a pair of shoes in London Ontario. I told you then how much I enjoyed your work (at that time your 'work' was CodCo). May I now add that all that you've done since that day has continued to give me great happiness that I keep as a repository for use as needed. I may be a cantankerous old-fart these days, but I AM happy, and you Ms Walsh, still make me smile.
