Can you imagine how terrified she must have been that night? This isn't just a movie, it really happened. Bigger isn't always better, though. The English ships were smaller and more maneuverable, and were able to get in between the Armada and knock holes in it. The underdog won. It's always a great part of history.

As someone from the Pacific Northwest, the cinematographers got the weather **precisely** right here. The clouds are the exact right color and they're... stacked I guess... just as if a major storm is about to come barrelling in.

After the fiasco of the Invincible Armada, Elizabeth I wanted to take advantage of Spain's weakness to destroy its power. England, however, suffered its greatest catastrophe on the sea. The Counter Armada: this was the greatest Spanish naval victory over England that almost nobody counts. Of the 180 ships that had sailed to take Spain, 102 returned with many of their men infected by the plague suffered at sea and which they spread when they went ashore. Of the 27,667 men who had embarked, only 3,722 survived. This expedition - whose losses were double those of the Invincible Armada - made it the greatest naval catastrophe in the history of England.

"this was the greatest Spanish naval victory over England"... Are you sure? I mean the siege of cartagena of 1741 was a complete disaster for england too... +/- 4000 spaniards and 6 ships of the line (and numerous land guns) vs 27400 English and 29 line ships, 22 frigates, 135 transports and other craft. Result: Spain victory. 800 spaniards deads vs 18000 english deads. The defeat was so disgraceful for England that the British government forbade the disclosure of the information. King George even banned learning about this in the history books. The consequence was so great for the English that they are forced to mobilize all of their remaining forces in the Caribbean. The British were therefore unable to prevent the landing of 25,000 Spanish soldiers in Italy in November and December 1741. That is i called a real victory!
